Randall Library Programs
Thursday, February 21, 2013, 6:30pm, Author David Mark-Lecturing on “Slavery in Massachusetts, 1641-1783”-The Randall Library in Stow is hosting local Author David Mark at this special event as he lectures on what servitude and slavery was like in the colonies into the foundation of the United States from 1641-1783.

Friday, February 22, 2013, 11:30am-Yoga for Kids with Maureen Trunfio (for ages 5-11)-   Maureen Trunfio will be teaching children ages 5 to 11 how to practice the art of yoga. Some yoga mats will be available, but feel free to bring your own if you have one.

Friendship Dinner at the Union Church
Please join us Friday Feb 22nd – 5PM to 6:30PM for a ham & bean supper! This dinner was originally scheduled for the 15th but had to be postponed.  There’s no reason to eat alone when you can join us for friendly company. Whether you are new in town or have been here a while, you are invited. Come alone or bring your family. Although there is no charge, donations are accepted. 2013-2014 SMS (Sudbury, Maynard, Stow) Youth Hockey Registration
Registration for next year’s Mites, Squirts, Pee Wees, and Bantams (birth years 2007 – 1999) will be open until Friday, February 22. Little Devils (Mite-in-House) will have a separate registration opening later this spring. Go to http://www.smshockey.com to register your player(s).  Placement Sessions for the 2013-2014 season will begin the week of February 25.  You MUST be registered to take part in the placement sessions. The SMS Squirt, Peewee, and Bantam travel teams will participate in the Valley Hockey League for the 2013-2014 season.  The Valley Hockey League (www.valleyhockeyleague.com) (VHL) consists of more than 60 youth hockey programs with over 550 teams playing in 30 different rinks.  It is regarded as one of the most competitive youth hockey leagues in the Northeast.  SMS Mite league will be playing in Northstar Youth Hockey League in Westborough, MA. “The Music Man” at Randall Library

Stow And Maynard Democrats Host Platform Hearing
Thursday, February 28, 7:00 p.m. at Maynard Library (77 Nason St.).  The Stow and Maynard Democrat Town Committees invite all area Democrats to come and share their views on what should be included in the 2013 platform for the Massachusetts Democratic Party.  The state party platform is both a statement of our core values and a list of the key public policy positions we support and will work collectively to achieve.  The hearing will start at 7:00 p.m. and run until at least 8:00 p.m.  Members of the Stow and Maynard Democratic town committees will be present to hear from any interested Democrats who stop by.  The setting will be very informal.  You can submit your views orally or in writing.  Over the course of the next several months, the State Platform Committee will compile all the views presented at the local platform hearings and prepare a draft platform for consideration by the delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention on July 13 in Lowell.  For more information, contact Allan Fierce at [email protected] (978-897-1786).  Allan also has information regarding how high school students can apply to attend the Democratic Youth Convention, which will also be held in Lowell on July 13.

Nashoba Girls Lacrosse Registration Extended
Nashoba Girls Lacrosse 2013 Spring Season Registration has been extended.  Some player spaces are still available for the U13 (5th&6th grade) and U15 (7th&8th) teams so registration has been extended.  Registration will remain open until March 1 or until player capacity is met.  Please visit our website www.nashobagirlslacrosse.org for additional information including a registration flyer (available on the documents tab of the website).  NGL is open to families in the Nashoba Regional School District as well as surrounding towns such as Hudson, Maynard and Leominster. Practices and home games are held in Bolton.

Photo Display at Nancy’s Air Field Cafe
A new display of exquisite photographs mounted by members of the Assabet Valley Camera Club is now on view at Nancy’s Air Field Cafe, 302 Boxboro Rd., in Stow. Some 2 dozen large color prints include magnificent landscapes, beautiful flower close-ups, birds and other interesting subjects. The cafe is open Wednesday through Sunday, with evening hours until 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

An artists’ open house reception is scheduled for Sunday, March 3, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Many of the photographers will be attending, ready to discuss their works with visitors.  Some of the photos are also for sale.

Open House:  First Parish Church of Stow and Acton
First Parish Church (FPC) of Stow and Acton (Unitarian Universalist) is hosting an open house Saturday, March 9th, 10 am-12 noon in Fellowship Hall.  This open house will include information for families with children who are interested in learning about our Religious Education (RE) program.  Please feel free to bring your children.  Michelle Cote, Director of RE, and Minister, Rev. Publishing Networking Group Meeting
Saturday, March 9, 10:30 a.m., Randall Library, 19 Crescent St., Stow. This meeting will focus on networking and a discussion about future topics and guest speakers. We will also peruse some new EFA publications for freelancers. The meeting is open to EFA members and non-members, freelancers, and anyone interested in publishing. BINGO, Games and Fun for Kids
Girl Scout Troop 72526 is hosting a night of BINGO, Games, and Fun for kids on Friday, March 15th from 6-8pm.  Join us at St. Isidore’s (429 Great Rd, Stow) for an evening filled with fun, games, and dancing!  All games and fun included in this 2 hour period for a suggested donation of $5 per child.  Prizes for everyone!  Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.  Children under the age of 5 are asked to have a parent or guardian attend with them.  For more information, please contact Amante at 897-4964.

Annual Arts Buffet Festival
The 11th annual Arts Buffet Festival is Coming!  Please mark your calendars for a fun day of kids’ arts and crafts, musical performances and an elementary school art show on Saturday, March 16th from 11-2 in The Center School gym in Stow, sponsored by the Stow PTO.  We have numerous arts and craft projects planned, covering an array of mediums, as well as some exciting idea starters for the always-popular Recycled Art Station. Admission is $6 per artist.  If financial hardship would discourage you from attending, please see Center School Nurse Donna Lindstrom for complimentary admission.  We need an army of volunteers to run the Arts Buffet safely and successfully. Nashoba Drama Society Presents:  “Hello, Dolly!”
    “Hello, Dolly!” returns to stage at Nashoba Regional High School! The romantic webs woven by New York City’s Dolly Gallagher Levi, widow and matchmaker extraordinaire, will amaze and amuse you as she sets her sights on Mr. Horace Vandergelder, wealthy bachelor from small-time Yonkers.  Comical complications ensue, involving a host of mismatched partners all headed for a rendezvous at the Harmonia Gardens. Will each person find the ideal match? Presented by talented Nashoba students under the direction of Mr. Bill Grady.  Show dates are Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd at 7:30pm and Sunday, March 24th at 2:00pm at the NRHS auditorium, 12 Green Road, Bolton. Save the Date for the Stow Lions Club Breakfast with the Easter Bunny
Good news!  This year the Easter Bunny will be joining The Stow Lions for breakfast Sunday morning March 24th, 8:00 a.m. -11:30a.m. at Hale School Cafeteria, Hartley Road, Stow. Mark the date and plan to join us for breakfast.  We’re serving a homemade breakfast again this year; scrambled eggs, toast, sausage, pancakes, juice, milk, coffee, tea, and fun.
