NRHS Final Band and Choral Concerts
Thomas O’Toole the NRHS Band Director, has created a lively, interesting program of music for Friday May 10th at 7PM. The theme is Pirates! You are sure to have a swashbuckling time at the final of Nashoba’s yearly series of Band Concerts.  7:00pm  in the NRHS Auditorium.  $5 admission; students and seniors free. Refreshments will be served.

    On Thursday May 23rd at 7PM, Susan Mianulli the NRHS Choral Director will showcase the talents of the Nashoba Choral Groups. The show is  always a magical night with many solos and enchanting ballads for your pleasure. The show starts at 7:00 in the NRHS Auditorium, and costs $5, with students and seniors free. 

Publishing Networking Group Meeting 
Saturday, May 11, 10:30 a.m., Randall Library, 19 Crescent St., Stow. Staying Ahead of the Curve: How to Stay Competitive in Today’s Freelance Marketplace. Today’s business environment has many challenges for editorial freelancers: local and global competition for our services; the depressed economy pushing down rates; stringent legal requirements for independent contractors; staying current with the latest technologies; marketing your services in the world catapulted by social media. How do you stay competitive and relevant given all these pressures? Where do you spend your time for maximum benefit?  Tim Rosa, President and CEO of TRA360, will explore these issues in our meeting on May 11. Tim will discuss these questions in an engaging, interactive, and dynamic format. The meeting is open to EFA members and non-members, freelancers, and anyone interested in publishing. Young Eagles Flight Rally Scheduled 
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, May 11, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Road, Stow.

  Registration takes place next to Nancy’s Airfield Café. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.

Mother’s Day Plant Sale

Bridges Together Intergenerational Program
Do you enjoy spending time with curious enthusiastic children? The Stow Council on Aging and Center School are looking for seniors to participate in this award winning program. It promotes positive attitudes about aging and mutual respect between the generations. The commitment would involve one hour each Tuesday for 7 consecutive weeks beginning on May 14-June 25, from 9-10 am. Together, you will complete simple fun projects that promote shared perspectives and interesting discussions. Rep. Hogan Announces Office Hours in Stow
State Representative Kate Hogan will be hosting office hours in Stow on May 14th from 5:30pm until 6:30pm at the Randall Library. All are invited to stop by with any questions or ideas. Newtown + 5 Months: Where are we now?
The Stow Democratic Town Committee will sponsor a forum on Gun Violence to be held at the Stow Town Hall at 7PM on Wednesday, May 15th.  The event is co-sponsored by the Stow Board of Health.  Attendance is restricted to Stow residents.  Come and learn of the actions being taken locally, state-wide and federally in the five months since the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.  The forum will consist of a panel discussion followed by a question & answer period. The moderator is Stow Selectman Jim Salvie.  Jim Cohen, a local physician, will introduce the concept of gun violence as a public health issue.  There will be four panelists. William Bosworth, the Stow Chief of Police, Dr. Michael Reinhorn, the co-founder of Citizens for Sensible Gun Policy in Sudbury, Representative David Linsky of Natick who will describe his new gun control bill and  John Rosenthal, the founder of Stop Handgun Violence.

 

Car Wash & Bake Sale for Nashoba Classes
The Nashoba Class of 2015 and Class of 2016 will be holding a car wash / bake sale at the Nashoba High on May 18th from 10-2. A car wash is $5 and there will be food to purchase while one waits. The profits of this fundraiser will go towards lowering the cost of prom tickets, senior banquet and other events to make our high school experience memorable.

 

SpringFest 2013 Plans Underway
Stow’s SpringFest Committee is busy making plans for this years’ Festival to be held on Saturday, May 18th at the Stow Community Park.

    Once again it will be a day filled with fun for all Stow residents offering several inflatables, free popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones.  Come see Animal Adventures, get an airbrush tattoo and enter a new event called the “duck drop.”  Not up for inflatables? Come listen to wonderful music and have lunch.  Not hungry? Watch demonstrations, check out vendors wares and see friends and neighbors.

Springfest LEGO Contest
Attention all LEGO fans, young and old! The date for the Springfest LEGO contest has been set – Saturday, May 18 – but your help is needed for the contest to go forward. Volunteers are needed before the contest and the day of the contest.  Before the contest, we need to come up with the theme, promote the contest, purchase prizes, and locate display tables. The day of the contest we need volunteers for setup, checking in contest entries, and “guard duty” to make sure the displays don’t get damaged.  This is a great opportunity for LEGO fans of all ages (PreK – Adult) to show off their LEGO building skills. Pancake Breakfast
The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging invite you to come to our annual Pancake Breakfast to be served at St. Isidore’s Parish Hall on Saturday, May 18, from 8 AM to 11AM.  RAIN or SHINE. This as a great way to kickoff your Springfest day. Bring the whole family and enjoy a great breakfast with your friends. Where else can you get pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs and help the Seniors of Stow. Coffee will be provided by The Gulf Station Dunkin’ Donuts. Come and enjoy The Assabet Valley Chambersingers who will begin to perform at 10 AM. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children under 12 years old, children 3 years old and under are free. Thank you for your support.

 

Randall Library Springfest Weekend Events
The Randall Library Friends Association Annual Book Sale, Saturday, May 18th 11:00-5:00 and Sunday, May 19th 11:00-2:00-During Springfest the Randall Library in Stow will be hosting an annual used book sale. Come browse thru hundreds of adult, children’s and young adult books (both paperback and hardcover) CDs (music and books on CD) and DVDs all in great shape and at great prices. Proceeds of the sale will go to the Randall Library Friends Association to promote special services at the Randall Library. We hope to see you there!

   KISPS Photo Show at the Randall Library May 18th, 10:00am-5:00pm and May 19th, 11:00am-2:00pm-“Keep it Simple” photography group will be having a viewing and sale at the Randall Library in Stow during Springfest this year. The group’s photographs will be on display on the second floor of the library.

Stow Historical Society tour of the Historical Objects in the Randall Library, Saturday, May 18th 11:00-5:00 and Sunday, May 19th,11:00-2:00- Ralph Fuller and other members of the Stow Historical Society will be on hand at the Randall Library during Springfest to give tours and speak about some of the fascinating objects in the Randall Library of historical significance to the town of Stow. Please join us at the library to learn more fascinating local history.

 
SCT and SAPN at Springfest for our Run for the Woods TotRun 
The Stow Conservation Trust & Stow Area Parents Network are teaming up again to hold our Springfest Tot Run for the Woods!  So many parents participate in the SCT Run for the Woods each year, what better way to share your love of running with your children than to let them run themselves?  Please register for our Tot Run between 10-10:30 am at the Children’s Springfest on Saturday, May 18 at the Stow Community Park (Old Bolton Road).  Three runs will be held  •ages 2 and under; •preschoolers – (ages 3-4); •    big kids (ages 5-6). Sounds of Stow Springfest Concert Sunday, May 19, 4PM
Join us in the First Parish Church of Stow at 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 19 for a very special Sounds of Stow Spring Concert!  American choral icon Alice Parker will lead a combined chorus of 100 singers in selections of her arrangements of folk songs, spirituals, hymns and her own compositions. The concert will also include a community sing under her inimitable leadership.
Stow’s Springfest Concert is a unique musical event that has continued for more than three decades.   This is community music-making in the best sense of the word. This year, the audience will participate in making the music.  Admission is $10.00.

Lake Boon Assoc Annual Meeting
Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 680 Hudson Road, Sudbury. Featuring our own Professor Richard Gelpke, speaking on geological and archeological aspects of the Lake Boon area. This presentation will follow the business meeting where you can learn what is going on around our lake, meet your neighbors, help plan for the summer’s activities, renew your membership.

 

Stow Cub Scout Pack 39 Registration Picnic
Join members of Pack 39 for a picnic at Stow Community Park (Old Bolton Road) on Sunday May 19 from 4-6 p.m. Bring the whole family to learn more about Cub Scouts and register your son for next year’s activities. Cub Scouts is for boys entering grades 1-5 in the Fall. Hot dogs & hamburgers will be served. (Bring your own beverages—no glass please.) Golf Tournament Fundraiser
The Nashoba Chieftains Football team is holding the 13th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser on June 2, 2013 at Stow Acres Country Club. All proceeds will benefit the NRHS Chieftains football program. Shot gun start at 1:30 pm with a check in at 12 noon. Dinner included in the fee at 6pm. Cost to play: Individual golfers $120, Foursome $480. Dinner only option $35.
