Airport Neighbor Ice Cream Social
An Airport Neighbor Ice Cream Social will be held on Thursday evening September 5th between 5 and 8 p.m. at Minute Man Air Field, 302 Boxboro Rd., Stow, to coincide with the last Rotary Club sponsored Wings and Wheels event of the season.  Folks living in Stow and Boxborough are invited to drop by to chat with airport officials about the ins and outs, ups and downs, of your neighbor, Minute Man Air Field,  and enjoy some free yummy ice cream.  We hope to see you here.

End of Summer Reading/Friends Ice Cream Social, Thursday, September 12th, @ 6:00pm-Have you signed up for the Summer Reading program “Dig Into Reading” at the Randall Library this summer? Then come join us on September 12th to enjoy ice cream and fun when we pull the tickets for the raffles to see who won!  Also on this fun filled night at the Randall Library in Stow we will announce the winner of our Summer Reading Art Contest. Provided for free by the Randall Library Friends Association.

Family Fun Night at Roll On America, September 14th from 4:00-6:00pm– In order to help us promote our “Dig Into Reading” Summer Reading event, Roll On America of Lancaster has offered free admission to any Stow resident with a library card to their roller skating facility and family fun center on September 14th from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Just present your current Randall Library, Minuteman library card at the admissions desk and come join the fun at 90 Duval Rd in Lancaster.

Dina Keratsis, author of “Cake: A Fairy Tale”, September 19th, @ 7:00pm-Romance will be in the air at the Randall Library in Stow, when the author Dina Keratsis, comes to read from her wonderful new romance novel, “Cake: A Fairy Tale”. This book takes readers into a world of romance, wonder, danger and thrills as it follows the lives of two unlikely lovers through a magical world filled with evil, joy and a fantastic ending that you won’t want to miss. The Randall Library staff has voted this book our favorite romantic pick of 2013 (and some of us aren’t even romance readers, yet this book won us over!!).

Refreshments will be provided (cake, no less!)

First Parish Church Open Houses Sept. 5th and 7th
First Parish Church of Stow and Acton, Unitarian Universalist, will host an open house in our Fellowship Hall on Thursday, Sept. 5th from 7-9 pm and a special “family-oriented” open house on Saturday, Sept. 7th from 10 am to noon.

The open house on Saturday, 9/7 will be especially geared toward families with children who are interested in learning about our Religious Education (RE) program.  Please feel free to bring your children so that they can become familiar with the church and enjoy some activities while adults are learning about the RE program and FPC in general.  Michelle Cote, Director of RE, and Minister, Rev. Tom Rosiello, will be there to discuss our programs and answer questions.

Wings & Wheels: Cruise-In/Fly-In to Minute Man Air Field
Head to Minute Man Air Field (302 Boxboro Road, Stow) every Thursday night this summer from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM through September 5. Featured cars each week, but all cars are welcome. Open to the public, this event features great food, including wood-fired pizzas, burgers, and dogs from Nancy’s Air Field Cafe. Plenty of show parking and separate public parking. Nashoba Welcome Back Dance
There will be a Welcome Back Dance for Nashoba Regional High School students on September 6th. It will be at Nashoba in the lower gym from 9-11pm following the varsity field hockey game.

Fall Soccer Program Seeks Volunteers and Special Athletes
Nashoba Unified Sports begins this year’s soccer program on Sunday afternoon, September 8th  at Stow Community Park,  50 Old Bolton Road in Stow.  Weekly sessions, from 2:30 – 4 pm through October, include practices and games. This program pairs athletes with special needs with student volunteers.  PLEASE REGISTER NOW! Union Church celebrates Welcoming Sunday
On Sunday September 8th please join us for worship services and brunch afterward to celebrate the start of a new church year.  If you are looking for a church for yourself, your family, and/or your children’s Christian religious education this will be a great time to visit the Union Church of Stow.  Worship services start at 9:30AM. School age children join their parents for the first 10 minutes or so, then are invited to the Sunday school rooms for fun age appropriate activities.  Infants and toddlers are cared for by trained child care providers.  On Welcoming Sunday we hope to see newcomers as well as old friends.  We will celebrate by offering brunch after church instead of the usual coffee hour.  We believe that vising an actual church service and having your children participate in the religious ed class is the best way to introduce ourselves to you.  So don’t be shy.  Just come on over! New Book Club Meeting
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be at 7Pm on Tuesday, Sept.10 at the library.  Blood, Bones and Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton will be the book discussed.  This is the true story of a successful chef in NYC.  Her story is an unconventional path through childhood,education and marriage–all bound together with the love of food.  Tell us what you would have predicted for this unusual girl in such unusual circumstances.  Join us.      Questions?  Call 978-897-6055.

Gun Violence Forum Rescheduled
The Stow Democratic Town Committee   announced  that  the panel  discussion on  Gun Violence originally  scheduled  for  May 15  will be  held  September 18  from 7 to 9 pm  at  Hale Middle School.  Panel members will include  John Rosenthal (  Stop  Handgun Violence), Angus  McQuilken (  Massachusetts  Coalition  to Prevent Gun Violence), James Wallace (Gun Owners Action League)  and  State Representative  Harold Naughton (Chairman of the  Public  Safety and Homeland Security Committee).  State Senator James Eldridge will moderate the program. Attendance is free.  Ample time    to answer  questions from the audience will  be provided. The  cost  of liability insurance  and traffic control for the program will be borne by the committee and by private donations.

Stow Women’s Club Meeting
The Stow Women’s Club will be having their first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Boston Nail Company, 132 Great Road (across the street from Shaw’s next to Alpha Cleaner) at 7:00 P.M. If you would like to come and see what we are doing in the coming year, you are cordially invited! Crafter’s Wanted For St. Isidore 2nd Annual Fall Festival

West School Museum
On Sunday, September 22 at 3 pm, the West School Museum, will host story teller Katie Green’s performance: Meet Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. Mary Rowlandson was a 17th century Puritan from Lancaster who was captured by Native Americans during King’s Phillips War and lived to write a book about her experiences. Ms Green gives a riveting performance – you do not want to miss it! The West School museum, Stow’s historic nineteenth century schoolhouse,  is located at the intersections of Hiley Brook and Harvard Rds. This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Stow Cultural Council which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Steppingstones Golf Classic
The 2nd Annual Steppingstones Golf Classic will be held at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow on Monday September 23. Funds raised will go towards the school’s Capital Campaign and to support Boston Marathon Bombing families with young children. Registration starts at 11 am, with a 12 noon shotgun start. Basketball Registration For The 2013-14 Season Is Now Open
SYBA (Stow Youth Basketball Association) is now accepting registration for the 2013-14 season for both the Bomber’s Basketball program (Gr. 1-2) and the Stow Recreation   Basketball program (Gr. 3-8).  Go to www.stowhoops.org to register.  Deadline is September 30, 2013.

If you would enjoy candlepin bowling with a group of folks who also place a high value on the social aspects of the game during an evening out, then here is an opportunity for you! This league has been in place for many, many years with bowlers from a number of area towns – and we have openings this fall.
Every Monday evening @ 7 P.M., at the Acton Bowladrome, you will find a group of multi-age adults who possess varying levels of bowling skills but who all certainly enjoy the sociability of the evening. So, get off the couch and come join us! Bowling starts on Monday, September 9.

FEMA Mapping Update Meeting
A multi-community public outreach meeting to discuss the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) panels and Flood Insurance Study report for Middlesex County specific to the Concord River Watershed (this includes the Assabet and Sudbury Rivers), is scheduled for Thursday, September 12, from 4-8 p.m. at the Alcott Elementary School, 93 Laurel Street in Concord, MA.  Residents will have an opportunity to view the changes, ask questions, and learn more about the National Flood Insurance Program.  Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be in attendance to present information about how the maps and reports were prepared, the process of reviewing and changing data where appropriate, schedule for implementation, and some of the potential changes being discussed for flood insurance in a general manner.

Annual Maynard Road Race
Mark your calendar for the upcoming 16th Annual Maynard 5KRun/2M Walk Road Race on SATURDAY,  September 21, 2013. All proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley.  The exciting newer Race Route has made the event even more exciting! The very popular Kids Race will be part of this year’s event again!
    The 1M Kids Race, for children 4-11 years old, will begin at 10:00 AM, with the same start and finish of the larger races.  Entry fee is $7/ea.  The 5K Run/2M Walk Races will begin at 11:00 AM sharp on Summer Street across from Memorial Park!
    Registration for these  races will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 52 Nason Street, Maynard.  There will also be Kid activities and music to enjoy prior to the races. All 5K Run/2M Walk entries received by August 31st will get a free t-shirt.  Entry fees are $25 in advance or $30 day of the race.
    The Race Route will start and end in Maynard Center, winding through the streets of Maynard.  An Awards Ceremony will take place following the Races.
