Gun Violence Forum Tonight
The Stow Democratic Town Committee (SDTC) is hosting a discussion on Gun Violence tonight, Wednesday, September 18, from 7 to 9 pm at the Hale Middle School.  Attendance is open to the public.  Panel members include James Wallace (Gun Owners Action League), John Rosenthal (Stop Handgun Violence) and Angus McQuilken (Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence).  The forum will be moderated by State Senator Jamie Eldridge.  Ample time to answer questions from the audience will be provided.  The cost of liability insurance and traffic control for the program will be borne by the SDTC.

Dina Keratsis, author of “Cake: A Fairy Tale”, September 19th, @ 7:00pm-Author Dina Keratsis will read from her  new romance novel, “Cake: A Fairy Tale”. This book takes readers into a world of romance, wonder, danger and thrills as it follows the lives of two unlikely lovers through a magical world filled with evil, joy and a fantastic ending that you won’t want to miss. Refreshments will be provided (cake, no less!)

Board Game Night, Wednesday, September 25th at 5pm. De-stress after school at the library playing board games. Play ours or bring yours from home! We have Apples to Apples, Jenga, Mancala and more. Ages 8 and up are welcome.

Stow Women’s Club Meeting
The Stow Women’s Club will be having their first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Boston Nail Company, 132 Great Road (across the street from Shaw’s next to Alpha Cleaner) at 7:00 P.M. If you would like to come and see what we are doing in the coming year, you are cordially invited! Friendship Dinner at the Union Church of Stow
Please join us Friday Sept 20th 5PM to 6:30PM. This month’s menu is chicken, potatoes, vegetable and, of course, dessert! There’s no reason to eat alone when you can join us for friendly company. Whether you are new in town or have been here a while, you are invited. Come alone or bring your family. Although there is no charge, donations are accepted. Fresh Baked Apple Pies Available
Fresh baked apple pies from First Parish Church of Stow and Acton are a 40+ year fall tradition in Stow!  The wait is over and pies will be sold from the Apple Pie Stand at the church on the Common in Stow, at the intersection of Routes 117 and 62.  Pies will be available on September 21, 22, 28, and 29 starting at 10 am until the pies are sold.  October 5th is the annual Church Fair and pies will be available during fair hours from 10 am to 3 pm.  For further information, call the church at 978-897-8149 or visit www.fpc-stow-acton.org.  Apples for the pies have been generously donated by Shelburne Farm of Stow.

Publishing Networking Group Meeting
Saturday, September 21, 2013 10:30 am: Randall Library,Freelance tech writer and journalist Barbara Donohue (www.the-engineer-who-writes.com) turns technology into English for companies and publications, covering many disciplines, including, analytical instruments, medical devices, machining, and wastewater. She started her working life as a mechanical engineer, made the switch to word-working in 1993, and has been freelancing full time since 2005. Barbara looks forward to swapping stories and ideas with freelancers and others interested in the publishing industry. This meeting is open to anyone interested in publishing. St. Isidore 2nd Annual Fall Festival
2nd Annual St. Isidore Fall Festival & Craft Fair to be held on Saturday, September 21 from 9am to 3pm at .St. Isidore Church Hall, 429 Great Road, Stow.  Local artisans present their wonderfully handmade crafts ranging from natural soaps, gorgeous jewelry, handcrafted baskets and more.  We will also have raffles that you do not have to be present to win.  Just stop by and purchase a ticket!  Stop in during lunch hours for delicious hotdogs and pizza while you browse for holiday gifts.  There are still a few spots left if you are a crafter and would like to reserve a spot to sell your handcrafted items.  Email socialcommittee@stisidorestow.org or visit www.stisidorestow.org for the forms.  Hope to see you there!

Organ Restoration Concert Celebration 9/22/13
On Sunday, September 22 at 5 PM, the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton would like to invite you to attend a rededication ceremony celebrating the restoration of our historic 1892 Hutchings Pipe Organ.  Organ music will be combined with the talents of pianists, solo singers, choir singers, and instrumentalists to highlight the improved pitch and timbre achieved with the organ’s freshly cleaned 491 pipes.  No tickets are required, but a free will offering will be accepted.  The church is located at 353 Great Road in Stow, Ma (at the intersection of Rts. 117 and 62, next to the Randall Library). West School Museum Free Program
On Sunday, September 22 at 3 pm, the West School Museum, will host story teller Katie Green’s performance: Meet Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. Mary Rowlandson was a 17th century Puritan from Lancaster who was captured by Native Americans during King’s Phillips War and lived to write a book about her experiences. Ms Green gives a riveting performance – you do not want to miss it! This program is free to all and recommended for ages 14 – 104.   The West School museum, Stow’s historic nineteenth century schoolhouse,  is located at the intersections of Hiley Brook and Harvard Rds.

Steppingstones Golf Classic
The 2nd Annual Steppingstones Golf Classic will be held at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow on Monday September 23. Funds raised will go towards the school’s Capital Campaign and to support Boston Marathon Bombing families with young children. Registration starts at 11 am, with a 12 noon shotgun start. Blue Man Group

72-hour Starter Kits Available for Purchase
The Stow Board of Health, in conjunction with the Friends of the Council on Aging on will host a 72-Hour kit preparedness promotion outside of Shaws at the Stow Shopping Center on Saturday, September 28th from 10 am to 2 pm. Come by to get free information about emergency preparedness and to purchase a “starter” 72-hour kit for $20.  Proceeds will support the Friends of the COA.

Stow Lions Annual Fall Flea Market. 
Matt Glauner is a Boy Scout with Troop 1 Stow, and he is working on his Eagle Project.  His project is to design, construct, and install two signs (one at each end) of Track Road in Stow.  Matt will be at the Stow Lions Flea market this fall, manning his own booth, to raise funds for his project.    He will be offering items for sale that have been donated to him by his friends, family, and other members of the scout troop. To get him started, The Lions have donated the booth.  The Stow Lions are proud to help Matt with his Eagle Project and we hope there are many others that can do the same.  Please stop by to meet Matt and give him your support.

Stow Postal Pantry “Share the Bounty” Annual Food Drive
October 7-12, 2013. The Stow Food Pantry receives most of our food donations during the Postal Pantry; we also receive many of our financial donations during the drive    Please help us to help our community. We serve your neighbors, your friends, and many others in our area that need our services.

7th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K Run/Walk
Please consider running, walking, or volunteering in the 7th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K. The race will take place this Thanksgiving morning (November 28th) at 8AM, beginning at Stow Community Park and ending at Bose in Stow. Supported by Stow Recreation, this event will donate all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity and the Stow Community Chest.   Register by November 1st and receive a free t-shirt! Early check-in and race registration will be held from 2-4 pm on Wednesday, November 27th. Registration can also be done at 6:30am on race day.
