Invitation To Visit Gardens
You are invited to the Stow Garden Club’s October meeting at Town Hall on Thursday, October 11, 2012 to view beautiful Great Gardens of The Northeast presented by Adriana

 
O’Sullivan. Originally from Holland, with a background in art, Adriana has been gardening in New England since 1980. She is a landscape designer who specializes in sustainable and deer-tolerant gardens. Over the past 12 years, she has designed residential and commercial gardens, as well as public spaces in New England.

 
Adriana earned a Certificate in Landscape Design from The Landscape Institute of the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University. She will be presenting Great Gardens of The Northeast which will feature the finest gardens from Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C. to Maine.

 
Upcoming Library Programs
Preschool Music Time, Thursday, October 11, 10:30 am at the Randall Library
Teachers  from the Franklin School of Hudson will be at the Randall Library to teach pre-school age children the joy of moving to and learning to read thru music. Come join the fun at this event and bring your dancing shoes!

 
Early Literacy Education Workshop October 12, 10:30 am at the Randall Library
Cynthia Maxfield the Early Childhood Coordinator of the Nashoba Community Partnership for Children will be at the Randall Library every 2nd Friday of the month to present to children and parents fun activities and games to promote early literacy skills in pre-school aged children. Come enjoy the fun of reading and doing a craft and learn how you can help your child learn to read using new techniques and fun hand’s on activities.

 
Make Your Own Mask at Family Fun Night
On Friday Oct 12, 7- 8:30PM the Union Church of Stow is having a Family Fun Night.  This month’s theme is Make Your Own Mask. We have blank white masks and fun, colorful things to put on them.  There will be a kids movie, a tween lounging room for hand held video games, & board & card games for ages 3 to 103.  Light snacks provided.  Where else can you spend a Friday night out for free?  This event is open to the public, so come on over to the church with the blue doors on Rt 117 next to the police station.

 
Young Eagles Flight Rally Scheduled For Saturday, October 13
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, October 13, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Road, Stow. Registration takes place next to Nancy’s Airfield Café. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight. Stow Conservation Trust Harvest Ball
SCT Harvest Ball will take place at the Collings Foundation on October 13th starting at 7:30pm.  Come support the protection of open space in Stow while dancing to live music amongst the antique planes and cars of the Collings Foundation, bidding on the silent auction and enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres by ABCatering and desserts by babycakes and confections.  Cocktail attire appropriate. “Skills in Our Town” at West School on Sunday, October 14
A variety of skills will be on display during the “Skills in Our Town” program at Stow’s West School Museum on Sunday, October 14. “Skills in Our Town” is a family-oriented event in which artists and artisans from the Stow community both show off their abilities and provide lessons – often hands-on experiences – in their avocations. The Skills program, running from 3 pm to 5:30 pm, is free and open to all interested persons. The program is jointly presented by the Stow Historical Society and the Stow Historical Commission.  Participants will include Honey Pot Hill Orchard’s Richard Martin, demonstrating beekeeping – (with the hives but without the bees being present), photographer Jonathan Daisy , jewelry maker Gail Thomas, artist Judith Jaffe, potter Ted Carvalho and Karen Gray demonstrating weaving.  Adults and kids alike will have a chance to try their hand with such activities as weaving, jewelry making and ceramics.

 
The Stow West School Museum is located at the intersection of Harvard Road and Hiley Brook Road.

 
Bonus Silent Movie at Town Hall
For those of you that enjoy the silent movies provided in Town Hall at the start of Springfest each year by our outstanding silent movie pianist Richard Hughes, here is great news.  On Friday, October 19, Richard will be presenting a special program of short silent movies showing examples of the very first films ever made, as well as a demonstration of the first Edison phonograph recordings ever made.  Included in the program will be always fun comedies by Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd.  This special free-admission event is hosted by the Stow Lions Club under a grant by the Stow Cultural Council and starts at 7:00 PM at the Stow Town Hall.  All are welcome.  Bring finger food (optional) to share with others during the social intermission. St. Isidore Parish Fall Festival
The St. Isidore Parish of Stow is excited to bring back its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 10AM to 3PM in the St. Isidore Church Hall and grounds!  Come enjoy a day of fun and food with your family and friends as we have hot dogs and hamburgers available for sale, local crafters selling their handmade items (start your holiday shopping early!), our parish cookbook for sale, a bake sale table, face painting & moonbounce for the kids, and lots of other exciting events!  Admission is free!  If you are a crafter and would like to sell your handmade items at the fair, please visit our website at www.stisidorestow.org.  Spaces available are 8′ ($30.) and 6′ ($20) and a very limited number of spots with outlets (additional $5.).  Any questions, please contact Laureen DeBenedetto at socialcommittee@stisidorestow.org.

 
MA State College and University Fair at Nashoba
Nashoba Regional High School invites all area parents and students in grades 9-12 to attend our MA State College and University Fair on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 6:00pm-8:00pm in the Upper Gym at the High School.  MEFA will also be conducting two college planning seminars in the high school auditorium from 6-7pm and 7-8pm.  Students and parents are welcome to attend either session.

 
Country Fair at the Union Church of Stow
Saturday Oct 20th — 10 AM to 3PM. Each autumn we welcome the community to our Country Fair.  Chose lovely hand knit sweaters, crafts, jewelry, christian books, household items & baked goods.  AM coffee, cider & donuts for sale.  For lunch enjoy homemade soup, sandwiches & dessert.   Have fun bidding on silent auction items and gift baskets — bidding closes at 2 PM.   Children’s activities ongoing to allow adults to shop.  This event is open to the public, so come on over to the church with the blue doors on Rt 117 — 317 Great Road.

 
Stow Postal Pantry “Share the Bounty” Annual Food Drive 
   October 22-27, 2012. The Stow Food Pantry receives most of our food donations during the Postal Pantry; we also receive many out our financial donations during the drive. Put the dates in your calendar now, set aside donations, and get ready! Please help us to help our community. New Book Club Meeting
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be at 7PM on Tuesday, October 23 at the library.  The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes is the book we will be discussing.  Memories–true or false?  What do you remember about events in your life?  Is it possible that some of what happened didn”t happen that way at all?  This book may shed a different light on what actually occurred.  Share your views at the next meeting.  We want to hear what you think!  Please call 978-897-6055 with any questions.

 
SAPN Halloween Party!
Saturday, October 27, 10am-12p. Center School Gymnasium – 403 Great Rd., Stow. Gather the ghouls, goblins, and princesses and bring them to our annual Halloween party! We will have treats, games, and crafts for the witches, skeletons, pumpkins, and all costumed tots. The party is free for current SAPN members and is $5/family for nonmembers.  Everyone is welcome! Stow Women’s Club Upcoming Events
On Saturday, October 27th, we will be having our annual Progressive Dinner where members and spouses/guests meet at one home for appetizers, split up to several homes for the dinner course and reunite at one home for dessert.  It is great fun!  On November 19th, we will have a flower arranging class at Concord Flower Shop where you can make your own Thanksgiving centerpiece arrangement.  The 29th annual Breakfast with Santa, our primary fund-raising event, will be held this year on December 8th.  A number of other activities are in the planning stages for 2013. Publishing Networking Group Meeting 
Saturday, November 3, 10:30 a.m., Randall Library, 19 Crescent St., Stow. Vermont author Judith Dickerman-Nelson will discuss the publication of her book, Believe in Me: A Teen Mom’s Story. Judith Dickerman-Nelson received her BA in English from Umass Lowell and her MFA from Emerson College. She has taught writing at both the high school and college level and has attended Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference and the Vermont Studio Center. This networking meeting is open to EFA members and non-members, freelancers, and anyone interested in publishing. Crafters Wanted
Crafters wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging to be held on Saturday, November 10, 9am to 3pm at the St. Isidore Church located at 429 Great Rd, Stow, MA. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40.00 each. There will also be food, senior crafts and a bake sale.
