Open Houses at First Parish Church
First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC), Unitarian Universalist, will be holding two open houses in September for those looking for a new spiritual home. The first will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 7 to 9pm. The second will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10am to 12pm. Saturday’s open house will be geared towards families looking for a good religious education program for their children, but all are welcome to attend either open house.

Guest Table Community Supper
Guest Table, a community supper in Stow, serves dinner from 5:30 to 6:30pm on the first Friday of each month at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC). Guest Table welcomes everyone, in or out of Stow, whether they’re looking for a sense of community, are feeling lonely, are having financial difficulties, or just want a change of atmosphere. There’s no charge for dinner, but donations are gratefully accepted.

Dinners will be nut free, with gluten-free and dairy-free options available.

The next meal will be offered on Sept. 2 from 5:30 to 6:30 at FPC’s Fellowship Hall. FPC is located at 353 Great Rd. Its facilities are wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact [email protected]. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Stow Community Chest.

Soul of a Citizen Service at FPC
A service on “The Soul of a Citizen” will be held at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC), Unitarian Universalist, on Sunday, Sept. 4, at 10am. Rev. Tom Rosiello will lead the service. Labor Day weekend traditionally marks the point when political campaigns launch into high gear for the November elections. Rev. Rosiello will discuss the issues raised in this year’s presidential campaign, which he says call for us to examine the moral values and perspective we bring into the voting booth.

The service will be held in FPC’s sanctuary. Child care will be provided. FPC is located at 353 Great Rd. Its facilities are wheelchair accessible.

STOW GARDEN CLUB LAUNCHES ITS YEAR
The Stow Garden Club will begin their 2016-2017 program year on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7pm at the Union Church. As we regather to announce the coming year program over desserts, we will discuss how to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Club in February 2017.  Non-members are free to attend this meeting and learn what the club does for the community in the manner of civic beautification programs, scholarships and educational opportunities. Golf to Benefit Brigham and Women’s NICU
The Midnight Riders, an independent supporters group of the MLS franchise New England Revolution, will hold a golf tournament fundraiser to benefit the facility that cared for the family members of a former Revolution player. The Midnight Riders Golf Classic will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Stow Acres golf course. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Brigham. Golfing will begin in a modified shotgun style at 12:30pm, with a dinner and silent auction to follow. Those interested in participating as a golfer or a guest for dinner may purchase tickets to the tournament at the Riders’ Eventbrite page. On Sept. 15 at 7:30pm in Town Building, the Recreation Commission, Conservation Commission, Open Space Committee and Stow Conservation Trust are co-hosting a public forum to discuss plans for the proposed Town Center Park at 323 Great Rd. (behind Union Church).  This will be an opportunity to provide feedback on preliminary design plans, and on what activities and facilities you think should be a priority at the park. PUBLISHING NETWORKING GROUP MEETS   
The next Publishing Networking Group Meeting will be Saturday, Sept. 17, 10:30 am, at Randall Library. This will be a networking and planning meeting. Please bring your ideas for guest speakers and/or topics.   This is a public meeting open to anyone interested in the publishing field. ALICE EATON FUND SEEKS GRANT APPLICATIONS
In 1992, Alice Eaton, a former resident of Stow, bequeathed funds for the purpose of improving the health, safety and enrichment of Stow children, from birth through age 12. The Alice Eaton Fund Committee is currently seeking grant applications from organizations with projects consistent with the Fund’s mission. The application deadline is Sept. 19. Yes, we do have a women’s club in Stow!
In fact, the Stow Women’s Club is hosting an open house for new members on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 4:30pm. Refreshments will be served with plenty of time for introductions, mixing and mingling. We’ll also have a short business meeting to project club events for autumn and winter. For 49 years the Stow Women’s Club has offered Stow women opportunities to make friends, socialize, and support charitable programs. Past activities included a Progressive Dinner, a floral arranging class, visits to a Boston and other local museums, a comedy club outing, and an annual Breakfast with Santa fundraiser. We represent all ages and backgrounds with a common goal of giving back and having fun in the process.

BASKETBALL REGISTRATION FOR 2016-17 NOW OPEN
SYBA (Stow Youth Basketball Association) is now accepting registration for the 2016-17 season for both the Bomber’s Basketball program (Gr. 1-2) and the Stow Recreation Basketball program (Gr. 3-8). Go to www.stowhoops.org to register. Deadline is Sept. 30.

CRAFTERS WANTED
Crafters wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair, sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, 9am to 3pm, at the Stow Community Center, 403 Great Rd. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 8’ for $40 each. There will also be food, senior crafts and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported by the Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants and will display a street banner.
