MAKE A CHILD’S HOLIDAY WISH COME TRUE
Warm Hearts of Stow urges community members to contribute to its annual Holiday Toy Fund. Our goal is to ensure that every Stow boy and girl has a special gift to open this holiday season! It may seem early to start thinking about the winter holidays, but our board members need to begin shopping in just a few weeks. Donations received in October/early November will be very much appreciated!

Checks may be made out to Warm Hearts Toy Fund and mailed to: Warm Hearts Toy Fund, P.O. Box 10, Stow, MA, 01775.  Warm Hearts of Stow is a 501 (c) (3) charity.  STOW REC SKI REGISTRATION
The Stow Recreation Ski Program Registration Night is Wednesday, November 5, from 6 – 7pm at the Stow Town Hall. A representative from Nashoba Valley Ski Area will be at the registration to pre-fit children renting equipment. Please bring your child (ren) to registration for pre-fitting of equipment. If you do not need rentals you can download the ski packet and registration form on-line at www.stow-ma.gov, and mail it into the Stow Recreation Department. The cost is: Lessons – $185; no lessons – $155; racing- $195.  Rentals are $105 and helmet rental $40 (6 week rental). At the pre-fit OVO helmets will also be available for purchase.  Lessons begin January 9. Bus fee is $85. Financial aid is available; contact Laura, at 978-461-1411.

STOW GARDEN CLUB PRESENTS TONY TODESCO
The Stow Garden Club’s meeting on Wednesday, November 5, at 7pm will be a presentation of flower arranging by Tony Todesco. Tony is a gifted artist,  national flower judge, and owner of One Main Street Studio in Stow, where his colorful style and expertise make him a sought after designer and lecturer. The presentation will take place at the Union Church, 317 Great Rd. (Rt. 117), Stow. Members of other garden clubs are invited, and all guests are welcome to attend for a nominal fee of $5. Junior Chess Club Meets
Starting November 7, the Nashoba Junior Chess Club meets on Fridays at the Nashoba High School cafeteria, 12 Green Rd, Bolton. Instruction for all levels start at 5:30 pm. Games take place between 6 –7:30 pm. Light refreshments and snacks are served. (We ask that each player contribute $2 at the door to cover costs.)  Publishing Networking Group Meeting
The next Publishing Networking Group meeting takes place at the  Randall Library on Saturday, November 8, at 10:30am. Guest speaker will be P. D. Callahan who lives in Carlisle, and has published several short works in literary magazines. Paul will discuss his writing and the publishing process. TENNIS TOURNAMENT FOR A CAUSE
Are you missing the outdoor tennis season? Anyone with a racquet is welcome to participate in a tennis tournament on November 8 ( rain date November 15) from 1 pm to 5pm, at Snow Field, to benefit the AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention). There will be an entrance  fee of $10 per player, with any other donations happily accepted. The winner of the tournament will win money equal to the fee he or she payed to get in (($10).  YOUNG EAGLES FLIGHT RALLY
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, November 8, from 9am to 12pm, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Rd., Stow. Registration takes place next to Nancy’s Airfield Café. Pilots at the event will explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.  The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, created to interest young people in aviation. SCT Annual Potluck Dinner, Presentation and Meeting
The Stow Conservation Trust (SCT) Annual Potluck Dinner, Presentation and Meeting will be held at 6pm on Saturday, November 8, in the Stow (old) Town Hall. For the potluck call Donna Beusch at 978 897 7920 to indicate whether you plan to bring a main dish, appetizer, or dessert  The presentation entitled “Tales of Stow’s Conservation Lands” will start at 8pm. Stow Veterans Day Breakfast
On Tuesday, November 11, enjoy a hearty breakfast while honoring our veterans from 8 to 10am at the Church of St. Isidore, 429 Great Rd. (Route 117), in Stow. Everyone is welcome to attend. Breakfast is $5 per person and will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, and potatoes. All veterans are free.

The breakfast, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley and the Stow Council on Aging, will feature brief presentations from the Stow Boy Scouts and State Rep. Kate Hogan. The keynote speaker will be Mrs. Janice Reidy, a 103-year-old veteran who served in the Women’s Army Air Corp during World War II.

 Civil War Folk Concert November 15
The Stow Historical Society presents The Hardtack Evening, Saturday, November 15, 7pm,  at the Stow Town Hall. Join us to commemorate the upcoming 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War with an evening of Civil War folk music by The Hardtacks. Year by year, the tumult, tragedies, and triumphs of the era unfold in the music and words of the people who lived them. On display in the Town Hall will be exhibits showcasing Stow’s Civil War veterans and the home front activities of the town.

The evening begins at 7pm, the concert begins at 7:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a finger food dish to share. There is no charge to attend, but donations are welcome.

The concert is sponsored in part by a grant from the Stow Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

 Celtic Fiddler Hanneke Cassel in Concert
FPC Music Series presents Celtic fiddler Hanneke Cassel on Saturday, November 15, at 7:30pm in the sanctuary of the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton. Hanneke will perform with cellist Mike Block, a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road ensemble, and guitarist Keith Murphy.  Boy Scout Holiday Wreath Sale & Christmas Tree pickup Service
Stow’s Boy Scout Troop 1 has begun their annual wreath sale. The scouts will be knocking on doors until November 17. There are not enough scouts to visit all homes in town, so you can also order wreaths by going online to www.troop1stow.net and printing out an order form and mailing your check with your order to Troop 1 Stow, PO Box 75, Stow, MA 01775 or order directly online.

The small plain wreath is priced at $14 and the small decorated is $18. Medium wreaths are $17 plain and $20 decorated, and large plain wreaths are $50. Wreath payment is due by November 18.Your wreaths will be delivered during Thanksgiving week.

NEW BOOK CLUB MEETS

Nashoba Drama Society Presents “It’s A Wonderful Life”
“It’s A Wonderful Life,”  a true testament to the power of family and friends, will be presented at the Nashoba Regional High School Auditorium, 12 Green Rd, Bolton, by the Nashoba Drama Society.  8th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K Run/Walk
Please consider running, walking, or volunteering in the 8th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K. The race will take place this Thanksgiving morning (November 27), beginning at Stow Community Park and ending at Bose in Stow. Supported by Stow Recreation, this event will donate all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity and the Stow Community Chest. Early check-in and race registration will be held from 3-5pm on Wednesday, November 26. Registration can also be done at 6-7:30am on race day. POrtraiture Demonstration at AVCC
On Wednesday, November 5, the Assabet Valley Camera Club (AVCC) will host a demonstration, “Poor Man’s Lighting,” by wedding and portrait photographer Jim DeLuco. The audience will learn not only lighting techniques but also how to produce pleasing poses and expressions. DeLuco, who owns DeLuco Photography, has been active in camera clubs for years.

The November program is open to the general public, and admission is free. This meeting begins at 7:15pm (most start at 7:30). AVCC welcomes both new and prospective members.  ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSTS REMEMBERANCE SERVICE
The Parish Collaborative of St. Isidore and St. Elizabeth of Hungary invites the community to participate in a Remembrance Service on Friday, November 7, from 7:30 to 8:30pm, Readings, music, and reflective silence will offer an  opportunity for those present to light a candle for deceased loved ones. “An Evening of Illumination” at Old Sturbridge Village
Visitors to Old Sturbridge Village will get a rare chance to tour the historic Village lit only by candles, oil lamps, lanterns, and firelight during the museum’s “Evening of Illumination” set for Saturday, November 8. Guided by lantern light around the Village Common, guests visit select homes and shops to see how early New Englanders spent their evenings in the days before electricity. Visitors will be treated to music and storytelling throughout the tour, and will see Village artisans at work by candlelight.

The Village is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:30am – 4pm. Admission is: $24 for adults; $22 for seniors; $8 for children ages 3-17; children 2 and under are admitted free. Concerts at the Common…
…begins its seventh year of world-class music in Harvard with The Boston Trio (violin, cello, piano) on Sunday, November 9, at 4pm at the Harvard UU Church, 9 Ayer Rd., Havard.  Free Veterans Day Admission for Vets AT OSV NovEMBER 11
Old Sturbridge Village will offer free admission to veterans, active military personnel, and their families (up to 6 people) on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11. Historians will fire vintage firearms and perform martial music covering 300 years of America’s military history. A display of military uniforms from the American Revolution to the Gulf War will be on exhibit, including an impressive collection of original uniforms from World War I.  A Year With Frog and Toad is Fun for the Entire Family
The Acton Cooperative Theater is pleased to present its production of A Year With Frog and Toad on Saturday, November 15, at 1pm and 4pm. Artists Wanted For Exciting New Graphic Art Exhibit
The River’s Edge Arts Alliance is proud to present a “Graphic Art” exhibit at The Sprinkler Factory in Worcester, and is looking for artist submissions. This is a great opportunity for artists of all levels of experience. Registrations with up to five submissions are now being accepted with a deadline of November 21. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, December 6, from 5-7pm. Gallery hours are Saturday, December 13 & 20, from 1-4pm, or by appointment. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

River’s Edge Announces First Annual Young Artist Competition
The River’s Edge Arts Alliance and River’s Edge Community Band announce the first an  nual Young Artist Competition, for students in 12th grade and younger who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument.
