make and take at Stow Garden Club
The Stow Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, October 7, at 7pm, at the Union Church in Stow. The ever-popular “Make and Take” event invites you to come and make a fall arrangement and take it home with you. Bring a small- to medium-size container and some snips for cutting the stems. Randall Library Friends Meet Thursday
Come meet with the Randall Library Friends on Thursday, October 8. We will finalize plans for a Staff Appreciation Day later this month and discuss events and projects for 2016, including the renovation of the Randall Library building. All Randall Library patrons are welcome. We meet at the Library beginning at 7pm.

Nashoba Community Partnership  Monthly Parenting Series
The Nashoba Community Partnership for Children begins its Monthly Parenting Series
with the topic Raising a Happy Child, on Thursday, October 8, 7pm, at Florence Sawyer School, 100 Mechanic St., Bolton. Happiness is a gift we give ourselves and our children.  Too often we hope it finds us or we pursue it in places or ways it will never be found. This session examines the pursuit of happiness with particular emphasis on identifying the patterns that lead to a lifestyle of authenticity, hope, and fulfillment.

RandalL library events
Michael Martino, author of “Shrouded in Deception,” October 8, 7pm – Shrouded in Deception is an exciting adventure novel based upon the Shroud of Turin, in which two main protagonists travel around Northern Italy in search of “the authentic Shroud,” which was discovered stolen from the Royal Chapel. Come speak to the author about how the Italian countryside influenced his writing and his other inspirations for writing this exciting novel.

Bi-Lingual Preschool Story-time, Friday, October 9, 10:30am – Come join the fun! At this bi-lingual story-time we will be reading a delightful story in both English and Mandarin Chinese. As with all our Randall Library preschool story-times, after the reading we will be making a craft to take home; this time it will be all about China.

Confessions of a Seed Snatcher, October 15, 7pm – Confessions of a Seed Snatcher is a timely and exciting presentation about the world of seed gathering.  Come learn more about how to save seeds from your favorite garden plants as well as take part in a hands-on chance to gather seeds from a large collection of flower heads, seed stalks, and pods. And don’t forget to visit the Randal Library Seed Lending Catalog to browse through the collection to prepare for next year’s garden!

Union Church of Stow Rummage Sale
The Union Church of Stow is having a rummage/white elephant sale on Friday, October 9, from 9am-1pm and 5 pm-7 pm; and Saturday, October 10, from 9am-1pm. The church is located at 317 Great Rd., just west of the Stow Police Station. Come for the bargains!

ROYAL SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE IN STOW
The Stow class of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society will take place on Friday, October 9 at the Stow Town Hall with live music.  Scottish Country Dancing is the much older version of our Contra Dancing and is quite social. Partners are not needed.  Soft-soled shoes are recommended.  There will be a Children’s Class and an Adult/Teen Beginner’s Class at beginning at 7:00.  Social Dancing begins at 8:00.  All are welcome to join this enjoyable and social dance form.  Please join us.

STOW LIONS GOLF BALL DROP
Last week’s scheduled  Stow Lions flea market was cancelled because of the weather. The Golf Ball Drop has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 10 at 10:00.

YOUNG EAGLES FLIGHT RALLY
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, October 10, from 9am to 12pm, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Rd., Stow. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.

NASHOBA GIRLS LACROSSE SPRING 2016 REGISTRATION
Spring Registration will be opening on October 15 and close by November 30. Early bird registration will be open only to returning NGL players from October 15 until October 31.  Beginning November 1, registration will remain open and be open to the general public until November 30. A discount will be offered to those players who register before November 15. Team sizes will be limited.  NGL is always looking for volunteers. If you are interested in helping out as a coach, assistant, or joining the NGL board of directors, please contact Christine Shaw at [email protected]. Nashoba Regional High School Class of 1975 40th Year Reunion
The Nashoba Regional High School Class of 1975 is holding its 40th year reunion on October 17, at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow, 6 – 11p.m. There will be good food, friends, fun, and some surprises, so don’t miss out! The reunion committee (Karl Drechsler, Heidi Krantz, Paul Kamp, Sharon [Scraggs] Burrell, Ed Panni, Tricia [Batsford] Schott, Lori [Hett] Doran and Mary [McCarty] Alex) is till trying to find some “missing” classmates to let them know about the reunion, so if you know anyone from the Class of 1975, please let them know. Stow RTC Picnic and Straw Poll
All registered Republicans and unenrolled conservatives are invited to the Stow Republican Town Committee Picnic and Straw Poll on Sunday, October 18, from 2pm to 5pm, at 125 Birch Hill Rd., to meet their fellow Republicans in town and to participate in a fun straw poll for the presidential primaries in March. Hot dogs and refreshments will be served, otherwise BYOB. Bring the family and feel free to walk down the hill to pick apples. STOW ARTIST RECEPTION
Nancy’s Airfield Cafe proudly hosts the artwork of local artist and teacher, Kristen Holt Donovan.  An Artist Reception will be held on Sunday, October 18 from 3:00-4:30 p.m.  Come by and celebrate the harvest season with great food, friends and acrylic paintings of Stow’s Harvest.  Kids are always welcome!

New Book Club Meeting
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be Tuesday, October 20, 7pm, at the Randall Library. This month we’ll be discussing “Waiting for Snow in Havana,” Yale historian Carlos Eire’s memoir of his life as a young boy exiled by the Cuban revolution. Open to all. Social Skills Curriculum and Supports: Preschool to High School
Nashoba SEPAC, along with the District’s Special Education Dept., welcome parents/guardians and other interested parties to attend a free lecture on Wednesday, October 21, beginning at 7pm. Presenters Valerie Beyranevand, MS, CCC-SLP and Kristen Diggins, MS, CCC-SLP, will provide an overview of the programs and approaches used by the Nashoba Regional School District to facilitate improved social skills in all students. They will discuss strategies and resources for supporting your child at home and in the community. This lecture will be held at the Florence Sawyer School Library (100 Mechanic St., Bolton). NRHS CONCERT
On Thursday, October 22, the Nashoba Regional High School Concert Band, Advanced Jazz Ensemble, and Intermediate Jazz Ensemble will present the first concert of the year at 7pm in the NRHS Auditorium at 12 Green Rd., Bolton. They will be featuring the music of Robert W. Smith (ASCAP), Bob Crosby, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin. Admission is $5, while senior citizens and students are free. Cancer fundraisers to raise money by pulling planes at Minute Man
The American Cancer Society today announced that it has teamed with Minute Man Air Field for the inaugural Pulling For Hope event at 11am Saturday, October 24. The fundraising event, which is limited to 20 teams of 10 people, challenges teams to pull a small plane 100 feet down a runway. Prizes will be awarded to several “divisions” of teams – open, schools, businesses, and fitness facilities. Funds raised will benefit American Cancer Societyfunded research and free services offered to cancer patients.

Stow Historical Society Annual Dinner and Program
All are invited to the Stow Historical Society’s annual fall dinner and program to be held Saturday, October 24, at 6:30pm at the Stow Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Jake Kuykendall of Sudbury, a member of the La Courte Oreilles band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. His program, How the Search for the BEAVER Drove the Exploration of North America, provides an overview of the North American fur trade starting in the mid 1600s, and its impact on the exploration of North America and on the Native American populations. He will also talk about his own experiences of growing up on an Indian reservation and his journey since leaving to launch a professional career. The installation of the new president of the Stow Historical Society will take place before the evening’s presentation.

CRAFTERS WANTED
Crafters wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging to be held on Saturday, November 14, 9am to 3pm, at St. Isidore Church, located at 429 Great Rd. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40 each. There will also be food, senior crafts, and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported by the Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants and will display a street banner. “Discovering the Extraordinary in the Ordinary” at ArtSpace Gallery
The ArtSpace Gallery is pleased to present an exhibit by Sofi Inbar, whose photography explores the world and life and uncovers the unusual in the usual, creating exciting and unforgettable images from the seemingly “dull.” Through experimentation with unconventional perspectives and angles, revealing her particular fascination with reflections, shadow, and overlooked details, her images provide these visions with unexpected lives of their own. The exhibit runs through October 29.  Gallery hours are Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11am to 3pm. ArtSpace is located at 63 Summer St. in Maynard and is free to the public and is wheelchair accessible. Bolton Repair Café
The Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley, with help from Bolton Local, will hold the next Bolton Repair Café on Saturday, October 17, from 9am to 1pm. The event will be held in Davis Hall at the First Parish of Bolton Church, 673 Main St. in Bolton. Please park and enter at the rear of the building.

Bring your items that need repair, and knowledgeable volunteers will try to fix them for free. The volunteers can work on items such as small appliances, computers, lamps, bikes, jewelry, clothing, and outdoor power equipment. They can also sharpen knives, scissors, and garden tools. You only pay for needed parts. If you know what parts are needed, please get them ahead of time and bring them to the Repair Café to save time. author event at maynard library
On Tuesday, October 13, at 7pm, authors Holly Robinson and Sonja Yoerg will be at the Maynard Public Library to talk about their latest books. Both women write about relationships, families, and second chances. Sonja’s latest title is The Middle of Somewhere and follows a young widow into the physical wilderness to try and ease her internal one. Holly’s book is Chance Harbor and is about the relationship of sisters. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.  The library is at 77 Nason St. in Maynard.

The Umbrella Community Arts Center welcomes Bruce Hornsby
The Umbrella Community Arts Center in Concord will welcome Bruce Hornsby as part of their benefit concert series on Friday, October 16.
