Stow Postal Pantry Food Drive
The Stow Food Pantry will hold its annual “Share the Bounty” Postal Pantry Food Drive the week of October 6-11. The Stow Food Pantry receives most of its food donations during the Postal Pantry – placed in owners’ mailboxes and picked up by the mail carriers -along with many of its financial donations.

Why Your Story Matters (Memoir Writing), Thursday, October 16, 7pm – Thatcher Freund, a journalist and memoir writer, will talk about the importance of stories both to ourselves and to the culture we live in, and why it matters so much that we preserve them.
Special Saturday Halloween Children’s Event, October 25, 1pm-4pm – Make your own fantastic 3D Halloween masks! All ages welcome.
Halloween Special Event-Mt. Auburn Cemetery Presentation, “Symbolism at the Cemetery”, Thursday, October 30, 7pm – Representatives and historians will be at the Randall Library to discuss the unique historical significance of the symbolism of some of the amazing headstones and sculptures of Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Stow Community Blood Drive
The American Red Cross will be holding a Blood Drive on Saturday October 11 from 8:00am-1:00pm at The Church of St. Isidore located on 429 Great Rd. in Stow Ma. Eligible donors can schedule an appointment to give blood by visiting www. redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Walk ins are Welcome!
During the month of October, all presenting blood donors will be eligible for the chance to win a $5,000 Visa gift card, courtesy of Suburban Propane.
YOUNG EAGLES FLIGHT RALLY
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, October 11, from 9am to 12pm, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Rd., Stow. Registration takes place next to Nancy’s Airfield Café. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight. The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, created to interest young people in aviation. NRHS Band Concert INTRODUCES NEW BAND DIRECTOR
Presented by Nashoba Friends of Music. Back to school! Introducing Mr. Joseph McCarthy, Nashoba Regional High School’s new Band Director. Joseph McCarthy has created a lively, interesting program of music for you on Tuesday, October 14, at 7pm. Come out and meet our new band director and see our talented children. He has so many wonderful things in store for the program! There will be performances by the Concert and Jazz bands. Admission is $5, with students and seniors free. Refreshments will be served.
NASHOBA GIRLS LACROSSE SPRING 2014 REGISTRATION
Spring Registration will open on or about October 15 for current players, and will close October 31. Beginning November 1, registration will also be open to the general public until November 30. A discount will be offered to those players who register before November 25. Team sizes will be limited. We are able to offer only one team per age group. NGL will be holding an informational open meeting on October 24, 7pm, at Slater’s Restaurant, 356 Main St., Bolton. Current NGL families, as well as anyone with questions about our program, are encouraged to attend. We are in need of a Secretary and Registrar. Nashoba SPED PAC Launches Year
SPED PAC launches the year on Thursday, October 16, 7:15pm, at Nashoba Regional High School, with an update on programs for children with special needs. Tracy Conte, Director of Special Education, will discuss this year’s district and other community programs. Though housed at NRHS SPED PAC is a district wide group, and all those interested in the topic are welcome The group posts information from other organizations on the NRSD Special Education NEWS page (www.nrsd.net).

Free Community Dinner at Union Church of Stow
Please join us Friday, October 17, 5-6pm, for another Ann’s Community Friendship Dinner, named in honor of the chef who started these events. The menu varies monthy. We promise it will be nutritious and delicious. The price is free, but donations are accepted. There is no reason to eat alone when you can join us for a good meal and friendly company. NEW BOOK CLUB MEETS
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be on Tuesday, October 21, at 7pm at the Randall Library. We will be discussing WILD by Cheryl Strayed. This is a memoir of an 1,100-mile solo hike made by a woman experiencing many deep losses. It is also the story of finding herself. Rummage Sale OctOBER 24 & 25
The Union Church of Stow will be holding its fall rummage sale on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25. Sale hours are 9a. to 1pm, with hours on Friday 5pm to 7pm. This year, at the same time at the rummage sale there will be a sale of jewelry and antiques, which usually takes place at our fall fair. Stow Flu Clinic October 25
Flu season is coming! The Stow Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), under the direction of the Board of Health (BoH), has scheduled a Flu Clinic to administer vaccine for influenza from 9am to 1 pm, Saturday, October 25, at the Hale School. Only the injectable form of vaccine will be available (i.e., there will be no intranasal option), and the vaccine can be administered to individuals 3 years of age and older (families with infants and toddlers should request vaccine from their pediatrician’s office). Cost for vaccination will be covered by insurance and/or Medicare. If you have questions, you can contact the Board of Health by calling 978-897-4592 or by sending an email to [email protected].
Charitable Pet Halloween Costume Contest
Come have fun with your kids, furry or not, at The 7th Annual Monster Bark at the Stow Pet Source on Sunday October 26. The event will include a Pet Parade & Costume Contest, as well as a Coloring Contest for children under 12 years old. All pets are welcome, whether they are entered into the Costume Contest or not! The lucky winners of the Pet Costume Contest will receive a Pet Source gift card: 1st place $75, 2nd place $50, ​​3​rd place $25.
Registration for the Contest begins at 12pm and the Parade begins at 1pm. No pre-registration required! The Costume Contest’s $15 entry fee will be donated to Phinney’s Friends, a small nonprofit that helps low-income people in the Boston area keep their pets by offering pet care and F​inancial help. Monster Bark will be held at Pet Source, 117 Great Road in Stow on Sunday, October 26th, 12pm-2pm.
CRAFTERS WANTED FOR COA HOLIDAY FAIR
Crafters are wanted for ther Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging, to be held on Saturday, November 1, 9am to 3pm, at St. Isidore Church, 429 Great Rd. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40 each. There will also be food, senior crafts, and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported b Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants, and will display a street banner. Publishing Networking Group Meeting
The next Publishing Networking Group meeting takes place at the Randall Library on Saturday, November 8, at 10:30am. Guest speaker will be P. D. Callahan who lives in Carlisle, and has published several short works in literary magazines. Door in Dark Water, the story of his years in Maine working as a commercial fisherman, is his first book. WOMEN’S BUSINESS NETWORK HOLDS TWO OCTOBER MEETINGS
The Women’s Business Network (WBN) meets on Thursday, October 9, at 7:15 pm at the Center on the Common, 7 Fairbank St (old Harvard Library) in Harvard to discuss Dealing with Difficult Clients. Attorney Karen Whitley will lead the group in an interactive discussion of “problem client” scenarios that attendees may have encountered in their businesses, with the goal of developing a guide to best practices for achieving productive client relationships. If you have a scenario you want discussed and your dues are paid, then submit it to WBN via [email protected] for consideration.
On Thursday, October 23, at 12 noon, our annual fall luncheon will be held amidst the beautiful fall foliage of The Healing Garden in Harvard, with a sandwich and salad buffet provided by Stevie’s Eatery of Marlboro. A portion of the $13 fee will be donated to the Healing Garden, a 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to providing supportive services to those with cancer. Additional donations are welcome.
