Warm Hearts of Stow urges community members to contribute to its annual Holiday Toy Fund. Our goal is to ensure that every Stow boy and girl has a special gift to open this holiday season!
It may seem early to start thinking about the winter holidays, but our board members need to begin shopping in just a few weeks. Donations received in October/early November will be very much appreciated!

Halloween Special Event-Mt. Auburn Cemetery Presentation, “Symbolism at the Cemetery”, Thursday, October 30, 7pm – Representatives and historians will be at the Randall Library to discuss the unique historical significance of the symbolism of some of the amazing headstones and sculptures of Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
8th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K Run/Walk
Please consider running, walking, or volunteering in the 8th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K. The race will take place this Thanksgiving morning (November 27), beginning at Stow Community Park and ending at Bose in Stow. Supported by Stow Recreation, this event will donate all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity and the Stow Community Chest. Register before November 1 and receive a free t-shirt! Early check-in and race registration will be held from 3-5 pm on Wednesday, November 26th. Registration can also be done at 6-7:30am on race day. COA ANNUAL HOLIDAY CRAFT FAIR
The Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging will be held on Saturday, November 1, from 9am to 3pm, at St. Isidore Church, 429 Great Rd. (Rte 117), Stow. You are invited to take advantage of the great holiday craft shopping provided by carefully selected crafters from the local area. There will be many hand crafted items. There will be a pottery making demonstration, a baked goods table, and arts and crafts made by the seniors of Stow. Visit our used book table. Hot dogs, corn chowder, and drinks will be on the menu, as well as Dunkin’ Donuts coffee courtesy of Stow Gulf Dunkin’ Donuts.
Awareness Event: “HIGH TEA WITH A HOT TOPIC”
Come learn about sex trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of women in our area on Sunday, November 2, at 3 pm, in an educational forum sponsored by The First Parish Church of Stow and Acton and RIA House, Inc. Forum speakers will include Kim McLarin, from Channel 2 WGBH’s “Basic Black”and Assistant Professor at Emerson College; State Rep. Kate Hogan (a leader who has brought forth and succeeded in getting legislation passed to fight human trafficking); and Heather Wightman, the Founder and Managing Director of RIA House, Inc. The church is located at 353 Great Road in Stow (corner of Rts. 117 and 62). Facilities are handicap accessible.
STOW REC SKI REGISTRATION
The Stow Recreation Ski Program Registration Night is Wednesday, November 5, from 6 – 7pm at the Stow Town Hall. A representative from Nashoba Valley Ski Area will be at the registration to pre-fit children renting equipment. Please bring your child (ren) to registration for pre-fitting of equipment. If you do not need rentals you can download the ski packet and registration form on-line at www.stow-ma.gov, and mail it into the Stow Recreation Department. Please indicate on your form if you are willing to chaperone. The cost is: Lessons – $185; no lessons – $155; racing- $195. Rentals are $105 and helmet rental $40 (6 week rental). At the pre-fit OVO helmets will also be available for purchase. Lessons begin January 9. Bus fee is $85. Financial aid is available; contact Laura, at 978-461-1411.
STOW GARDEN CLUB PRESENTS TONY TODESCO
The Stow Garden Club’s meeting on Wednesday, November 5, at 7pm will be a presentation of flower arranging by Tony Todesco. Tony is a gifted artist, national flower judge, and owner of One Main Street Studio in Stow, where his colorful style and expertise make him a sought after designer and lecturer. The presentation will take place at the Union Church, 317 Great Rd. (Rt. 117), Stow. Members of other garden clubs are invited, and all guests are welcome to attend for a nominal fee of $5. Junior Chess Club Meets
Starting November 7, the Nashoba Junior Chess Club meets on Fridays at the Nashoba High School cafeteria, 12 Green Rd, Bolton. Instruction for all levels start at 5:30 pm. Games take place between 6 –7:30 pm. Light refreshments and snacks are served. (We ask that each player contribute $2 at the door to cover costs.) Publishing Networking Group Meeting
The next Publishing Networking Group meeting takes place at the Randall Library on Saturday, November 8, at 10:30am. Guest speaker will be P. D. Callahan who lives in Carlisle, and has published several short works in literary magazines. Paul will discuss his writing and the publishing process. TENNIS TOURNAMENT FOR A CAUSE
Are you missing the outdoor tennis season? Anyone with a racquet is welcome to participate in a tennis tournament on November 8 ( rain date November 15) from 1 pm to 5pm, at Snow Field, to benefit the AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention). There will be an entrance fee of $10 per player, with any other donations happily accepted. The winner of the tournament will win money equal to the fee he or she payed to get in (($10). SCT Annual Potluck Dinner, Presentation and Meeting
The Stow Conservation Trust (SCT) Annual Potluck Dinner, Presentation and Meeting will be held at 6pm on Saturday, November 8, in the Stow (old) Town Hall. Civil War Folk Concert November 15
The Stow Historical Society presents The Hardtack Evening, Saturday, November 15, 7pm, at the Stow Town Hall. Join us to commemorate the upcoming 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War with an evening of Civil War folk music by The Hardtacks. Year by year, the tumult, tragedies, and triumphs of the era unfold in the music and words of the people who lived them. On display in the Town Hall will be exhibits showcasing Stow’s Civil War veterans and the home front activities of the town.
The evening begins at 7pm, the concert begins at 7:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a finger food dish to share. There is no charge to attend, but donations are welcome.
The concert is sponsored in part by a grant from the Stow Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Celtic Fiddler Hanneke Cassel in Concert
FPC Music Series presents Celtic fiddler Hanneke Cassel on Saturday, November 15, at 7:30pm in the sanctuary of the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton. Nashoba Drama Society Presents “It’s A Wonderful Life”
“It’s A Wonderful Life,” a true testament to the power of family and friends, will be presented at the Nashoba Regional High School Auditorium, 12 Green Rd, Bolton, by the Nashoba Drama Society. Lessons and Carols Choir Calling for Singers
It’s Christmas time again! Church of the Good Shepherd at 164 Newtown Rd. in Acton, will once again offer the opportunity for singers in the larger community to sing with our choir in a Service of Lessons and Carols on December 14. The first rehearsal is on Saturday, November 1, at 10am in the church sanctuary. Teen and adult singers are welcome! ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSTS REMEMBERANCE SERVICE
The Parish Collaborative of St. Isidore and St. Elizabeth of Hungary invites the community to participate in a Remembrance Service on Friday, November 7, from 7:30 to 8:30pm, Readings, music, and reflective silence will offer an opportunity for those present to light a candle for deceased loved ones. The Ministry of Consolation also invites all who grieve the loss of a loved one to a reception following the 10:30am Mass on November 2. CONCORD AREA HUMANISTS PRESENT RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
Concord Area Humanists invites you to a discussion and dialogue entitled “Restorative Justice: What It Is and How It Is Applied Locally”. This special meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 5, at 7pm at First Parish Hall, 20 Lexington Rd, Concord.
Restorative Justice (RJ) is an alternative system of justice dealing with conflict and harm within a community. The emphasis is on the harm committed and how the offender can restore that loss and be re-integrated within that community. RJ empowers people harmed offering avenues for healing and closure.

Give Thanks, Give Hope, and Give Blood this Thanksgiving
The Maynard Community Blood Drive, sponsored by Kinights of Columbus Council #2121, will be held on Wednesday, November 5, between 2pm and 7pm, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 40 Summer St., Maynard.

Shaw’s Supermarket is sponsoring a ”no-cost” raffle for a Thanksgiving Themed Gift Basket including a coupon for a Turkey at the Canteen Table. In addition, the Knights are asking all donors to bring one or more non-perishable food items for their “Food for Families” program. All donated food will be given to the Maynard Food Pantry.
Portraiture Demonstration at AVCC
On Wednesday, November 5, the Assabet Valley Camera Club (AVCC) will host a demonstration, “Poor Man’s Lighting,” by wedding and portrait photographer Jim DeLuco. The audience will learn not only lighting techniques but also how to produce pleasing poses and expressions. DeLuco, who owns DeLuco Photography, has been active in camera clubs for years.
The November program is open to the general public, and admission is free. This meeting begins at 7:15pm (most start at 7:30). AVCC welcomes both new and prospective members. River’s Edge Presents A Cabaret for Compassion
Join the River’s Edge Arts Alliance and River’s Edge Players for a wonderful evening of music and inspiration with A Cabaret for Compassion, featuring the best inspirational songs from Broadway and Disney. Local non-profits have been invited by REAA to set up info tables in the lobby to help promote awareness of their causes. A portion of the evening’s fundraising efforts will benefit these non-profits.
This special event takes place on Saturday, November 8, at 7pm at the Best Western Royal Plaza in Marlborough. Ticket price includes an hors d’oeurvres, pasta, and dessert buffet along with the performance. Cocktails (cash bar) and large silent auction will take place from 7 – 8pm, with the performance beginning at 8pm. Tickets are $35 for non-members and $30 for River’s Edge Arts Alliance members. River’s Edge Announces First Annual Young Artist Competition
The River’s Edge Arts Alliance and River’s Edge Community Band announce the first an nual Young Artist Competition, for students in 12th grade and younger who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument.
