college planning for the community
The Nashoba Regional High School Guidance Office Senior College Planning Night on Wednesday, September 16, 6:30pm, at the NRHS Auditorium. Guidance counselors will be present to answer questions about the “nuts and bolts” of the college application process.    There also will be a presentation and college fair, featuring the transition to college for students with learning differences, on Wednesday, September 30, 6pm, in the Auditorium. “The best college fit for a successful transition” will be presented.   NRHS is located at 12 Green Rd., Bolton.

Upcoming Events at the Randall Library in September
Eating Well On A Budget, September 17, 7pm – Professional nutritionist Lucy Hutch from the Emerson Hospital Nutrition Services Dept. will explain the best way to get the best “bang for your buck” in terms of food costs and nutrition. This talk will be focused on promoting improved health through good nutrition without breaking your household budget and helping you and your family to improve your quality of life.

PIRATE DAY with the cub scouts

Apple Pie Stand at FPC Every Weekend
It’s time again for our famous apple pies to be sold on Saturdays and Sundays, from now until the date of our Harvest Fair on Saturday, October 3. The apple pie stand is located at the front of the church grounds, at 353 Great Rd. Sales will begin at 10am and will close when the day’s pies are sold. Star Gazing at Stow MinuteMan Air field
Skylight Astronomical Society, Inc. presents Star Gazing at Minuteman Air Field on Saturday, September 19, from Dusk (~7:30pm)  until 10pm. OARS River Cleanup – Join Us!
The Organization for the Assabet River will hold its 29th Annual River Cleanup on Saturday, September 19, from 9am to 12 noon. OARS volunteers will wade into the Assabet, Sudbury, and Concord rivers and tributaries to continue the effort to restore our beautiful rivers. There is lots of work to be done. We will be working this year in Stow and surrounding towns. LIFE AT LAKE BOON
On Wednesday, September 23, at 7pm, local historian Dick Gelpke presents the third in a series of three presentations on the history of Lake Boon. Gelpke is a long time Lake Boon resident, retired from the Department of Geography & Earth Science at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Assabet River Rail Trail Meets
The next meeting of the Assabet River Rail Trail, Inc (ARRT) is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at the Randall Library, 19 Crescent St., starting at 7pm. Monthly ARRT meetings are open to the public and anyone interested in trail activities is invited to attend. Star Custom Framers Hosts Coffee Connections
The Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that September’s Coffee Connections is slated for Friday, September 25, from 7:30 to 9am, at Star Custom Framers in the Stow Shopping Plaza (117 Great Rd.). After a cup of coffee and quick continental breakfast, round-the-room introductions commence at 8am. Participation is complimentary, but space is limited, so reservations are required. The  Stow Women’s Club is hosting an open house for prospective members on Friday, September 25, from 7 – 9:30pm, at 531 Great Rd. (yellow house next door to the former Pompositticutt School). There will a short business meeting focussed on suggestions/preliminary plans for club events during the autumn and the early winter months, such as our Progressive Dinner in October and our Breakfast With Santa fundraiser in December. Refreshments will be served with plenty of time reserved for mixing and mingling.

For 48 years the Stow Women’s Club has offered Stow women opportunities for socialization as well as for charitable work.  Some of our recent activities included a floral arranging class, a visit to a Boston art museum, a comedy club outing, a jewelry making class, and a walk to raise money for breast cancer research. We represent all ages and backgrounds with a common goal of giving back to our community and having fun in the process. Please consider joining us for the evening! ANNIE SULLIVAN, Helen Keller’s TEACHER, at Old West School House
Join us on Sunday, September 27, 3-4 pm, at the Old West Schoolhouse Museum, for an enjoyable and informative living history program presented by award-winning actor Kate Carney as she portrays “Annie Sullivan, Helen’s Teacher”. Annie’s style is interactive; she asks and answers questions at the end. This program has won raves at the Perkins School for the Blind; the International Women Playwrights Conference in Ireland; and at schools, museums, and diversity, inclusiveness, and disability conferences.

The Old West Schoolhouse is located at the intersections of Harvard and Hiley Brook roads. Sponsored by the Stow Historical Society and the Stow Historical Commission, the program also is sponsored in part by a grant from the Stow Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

The Stow Lions Club Annual Fall Flea Market will be held October 3 at the Stow Lions Field (at the intersection of Route 117 and Hudson Road).  The rain date is Sunday, October 4. The Lions will have a food court throughout the day. Household Goods hosting open house for prospective volunteers    
Household Goods Inc.,  a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that provides a full range of donated furniture and household items, free of charge, to help people in need make a home, is looking to recruit additional volunteers to help with all aspects of the operation. Household Goods will be hosting an open house for new and prospective volunteers on Wednesday, September 16, from 7-8:30 pm, at 530 Main St. in Acton. Volunteers are key to every aspect of the organization, from assisting clients to providing administrative help. Household Goods especially needsvolunteers who can make a regular commitment, such as weekly, biweekly or even monthly.

annual artspace artists’ group show
ArtSpace, one of the largest arts centers in New England, invites you to attend it annual ArtSpace Artists’ Group Show event here at 63 Summer St., Maynard,  through October 2. Bolton Lions Donuts – Help us help our neighbors
The Bolton Lions Club will once again be serving delicious fresh donuts at Schartner Farms, 279 W Berlin Rd, Bolton. Assabet Village Food Co-Op Upcoming Cooking Classes
The Assabet Village Food Co-Op is sponsoring the chef demonstration class “Korean Kimchee – History, Culture and Benefits” on Sunday September 20, 2pm – 3:15pm. There will be a slide show, ingredient information, and sample tastings or three or four different kinds of kimchee with rice. The class will be held in Maynard. There will be a Yom Kippur Service for the preschool set on September 23. Especially designed for the youngest families, this service will begin at 2:30pm and last about 20 minutes.  It will include singing, short prayers, a story, and the blowing of the shofar! MetroFest 2015
MetroFest is the MetroWest Visitors Bureau’s signature event, showcasing the richness and diversity of the region’s music, arts, and culinary offerings, with a wide range of activities appealing to all ages. It happens at Framingham’s Bowditch Athletic and Cultural Complex, 475 Union Ave., on September 26, 11am-5pm, rain or shine  There is an entry fee of $3 for children aged 5 years to 11 years, $7 for adults and children 12 years and older, and no charge for those under age 5.

Once admitted, all entertainment and activities of MetroFest are free. PMC KIDS RIDE
The Bolton PMC (Pan-Mass Challenge) Kids Ride will be held on Sunday, September 27, from 12noon to 2 pm, at Florence Sawyer School, 100 Mechanic St. in Bolton. Riders choose from 3 bike routes for ages 2-14. There will be raffle prizes, face painting, bike decorating, complimentary bike checkups by Landry’s Bicycles, music, food, ice cream, and more! All donations fund cancer research and treatment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. There is a $10 registration fee and a $25 fundraising minimum. Registration Now Open for New After School Music Program
The River’s Edge Arts Alliance is pleased to offer a new and exciting After School Music Program with a diverse array of talented musicians who are also committed teachers. The REAA offers group and private lessons to students in grade 4 and older in the Greater Hudson/Marlborough area. Lessons encompass instruction in woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments as well as beginner piano, guitar, and vocal instruction. Whether students are beginning a new instrument or honing skills developed through many years of practice, the River’s Edge Arts Alliance After School Music Program is dedicated to helping young musicians excel. Our teachers work with students to help them develop basic skills, learn repertoire, and prepare them for a spring recital performance.
