The Nashoba Regional High School Guidance Office will host a presentation and college fair, featuring the transition to college for students with learning differences, on Wednesday, September 30, 6pm, in the Auditorium. “The best college fit for a successful transition” will be presented.

BASKETBALL REGISTRATION FOR THE 2015-16 SEASON IS NOW OPEN
SYBA (Stow Youth Basketball Association) is now accepting registration for the 2015-16 season for both the Bomber’s Basketball program (Gr. 1-2) and the Stow Recreation Basketball program (Gr. 3-8).  Go to www.stowhoops.org to register. Deadline is September 30.

The Stow Lions Club Annual Fall Flea Market will be held October 3 at the Stow Lions Field (at the intersection of Route 117 and Hudson Road).  The rain date is Sunday, October 4. The Lions will have a food court with a variety of food throughout the day. If you’re a vendor looking for space(s) you should contact the Stow Lions directly by email to reserve space now. The Flea Market opens at 7am; admission is free. The Flea Market  always attracts a high volume of customers and vendors, with a wide selection of goods, collectibles, tools, decorator items, books, coins, leather goods, and just plain old good stuff! The event is clean, well run, with a family friendly atmosphere.

harvest fair and Apple Pie Stand at FPC
The 146th annual Harvest Fair takes place on Saturday, October 3, from 9:30am to 3pm, at the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton in Stow. A full lunch and snacks will be available, as well as FPC’s famous apple pies and all types of homemade baked goods and preserves. A large variety of CDs, books, and retro jewelry will be for sale.

Children’s activities include the popular moon bounce and fun new games. 50/50 raffle and live music, including FPC’s choir and its own Uketarians. Proceeds will benefit the church. There is free parking and the event will be held rain or shine.

And, FPC’s apple pies are back! It’s time again for our famous apple pies to be sold on Saturdays and Sundays, from now until the Harvest Fair. The apple pie stand is located at the front of the church grounds, at 353 Great Rd.  Sales will begin at 10am and will close when the day’s pies are sold. Apples for the pies have been generously donated by Shelburne Farm of Stow.

Stow Postal Pantry “Share the Bounty” Annual Food Drive
The Stow Food Pantry receives most of our food donations during our annual Postal Pantry, happening this year October 5 – 10. We also receive many of our financial donations during this food drive. Put the dates in your calendar now, set aside donations, and get ready!  Please help us to help our community. make and take at Stow Garden Club
The Stow Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, October 7, at 7pm, at the Union Church in Stow. The ever-popular “Make and Take” event invites you to come and make a fall arrangement and take it home with you. Bring a small- to medium-size container and some snips for cutting the stems. Nashoba Community Partnership Presents Monthly Parenting Series
The Nashoba Community Partnership for Children begins its Monthly Parenting Series with the topic Raising a Happy Child, on Thursday, October 8, 7pm, at Florence Sawyer School, 100 Mechanic St., Bolton. Happiness is a gift we give ourselves and our children.  Too often we hope it finds us or we pursue it in places or ways it will never be found. This session examines the pursuit of happiness with particular emphasis on identifying the patterns that lead to a lifestyle of authenticity, hope, and fulfillment.

Michael Martino, author of “Shrouded in Deception,” October 8, 7pm – Shrouded in Deception is an exciting adventure novel based upon the Shroud of Turin, in which two main protagonists travel around Northern Italy in search of “the authentic Shroud,” which was discovered stolen from the Royal Chapel. Come speak to the author about how the Italian countryside influenced his writing and his other inspirations for writing.

Bi-Lingual Preschool Story-time, Friday, October 9, 10:30am – Come join the fun! At this bi-lingual story-time we will be reading a delightful story in both English and Mandarin Chinese. As with all our Randall Library preschool story-times, after the reading we will be making a craft to take home; this time it will be all about China.

Confessions of a Seed Snatcher, October 15, 7pm – Confessions of a Seed Snatcher is a timely and exciting presentation about the world of seed gathering. There is something for everybody in this humorous and insightful program. Come learn more about how to save seeds from your favorite garden plants as well as take part in a hands-on chance to gather seeds from a large collection of flower heads, seed stalks, and pods. And don’t forget to visit the Randall Library Seed Lending Catalog to browse through the collection to prepare for next year’s garden!

Nashoba Regional High School Class of 1975 40th Year Reunion
The Nashoba Regional High School Class of 1975 is holding its 40th year reunion on October 17, at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow, 6 – 11p.m. There will be good food, friends, fun, and some surprises, so don’t miss out! The reunion committee (Karl Drechsler, Heidi Krantz, Paul Kamp, Sharon [Scraggs] Burrell, Ed Panni, Tricia [Batsford] Schott, Lori [Hett] Doran and Mary [McCarty] Alex) is till trying to find some “missing” classmates to let them know about the reunion, so if you know anyone from the Class of 1975, please let them know. CRAFTERS WANTED
Crafters wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging to be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, 9am to 3pm, at St. Isidore Church, 429 Great Rd. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40 each. There will also be food, senior crafts, and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported by the Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants and will display a street banner. Players wanted for Stow Women’s Over-40 soccer team
Looking for fun, camaraderie, and good soccer? Stow Women’s Soccer is looking for players for its Over 40 (year old) team, which plays 6v6 in an Over 40 league. You needn’t be a resident of Stow. The fall season is underway and runs through November 22 ,with games on Sundays at 8:30am. Home games are at Stow Community Park, 60 Old Bolton Rd. The Bolton Lions Club will once again be serving delicious fresh donuts at Schartner Farms, 279 W Berlin Rd, Bolton. Our fundraising activities allow us to help neighbors experiencing hardship, students seeking scholarships, doctors providing healthcare to the isolated and disadvantaged, and researchers seeking cures for Diabetes, glaucoma, and other diseases that rob people of sight.  Join us every Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 3pm, through October 25.

sing with the River’s edge chorale
The River’s Edge Chorale is made up of a multi-generational community of singers with all skill levels. This fall the Chorale will be preparing for the Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 12, where they will be joined by the River’s Edge Band and Youth Chorus for this annual community event. No auditions are required, and singers are welcome to join anytime, but now is the time to get in on the beginning of the season. An open rehearsal begins the season on Tuesday, October 6, at 7pm, and is regularly scheduled at Hudson High School in the chorus room (C110) at that time.

A modest registration fee helps support the River’s Edge Chorale expenses. Discounts and ticket discounts apply for all members of the River’s Edge Arts Alliance. On Tuesday, October 13, at 7pm, authors Holly Robinson and Sonja Yoerg will be at the Maynard Public Library to talk about their latest books. Both women write about relationships, families, and second chances. Sonja’s latest title is The Middle of Somewhere and follows a young widow into the physical wilderness to try and ease her internal one. Holly’s book is Chance Harbor and is about the relationship of sisters. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.  The library is at 77 Nason St. in Maynard.

The Umbrella Community Arts Center welcomes Bruce Hornsby
The Umbrella Community Arts Center in Concord will welcome Bruce Hornsby as part of their benefit concert series on Friday, October 16. The organization will host all ticket buyers and friends of the organization with a dinner reception on the front lawn followed by a concert in their 350-seat theatre. arts The organization kicked off the series by welcoming Lyle Lovett this past June and plans to host 4-6 concerts with national-level musicians over the next 2 years.
