Our deep condolences to the family and friends of 19-year-old Leah Tepper who passed away on Thursday from cancer. We’d come to know Leah through several articles written over the last year, most recently detailing Team Tepper’s fundraising efforts for cancer research in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Ann Needle shares more of Leah’s life on page 1. We hope that will help readers keep her memory alive.

We are just coming off Election Day and I think I can safely say I speak for many when I say, thankfully it’s over. This has been one long campaign season and I will not miss the commercials, the robocalls, and the stack of flyers in my mailbox that all hit a feverish pitch in recent weeks. Congratulations to the winners and may you all do what’s best and right for the town, the region, the state and the country.

Congratulations to the District’s athletes that have made it to post-season play. Ellen gives a round up of how teams are faring to date. The 7th grade Chiefs youth football team won the Conference Superbowl this weekend, held in my hometown of Lunenburg, and they are heading to regional competition this weekend.

We salute all of the veterans being honored on the upcoming Veteran’s Day observance on November 11. The Stow Friends of the COA will once again host their annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast on Monday, November 12. Please see pages 4 and 5 for details on the guest speaker and the featured performer.

Also in honor of Veteran’s Day, Nancy brings us the story of a unique program for Veterans of World War II- Honor Flight New England- in which Stow resident and WWII Veteran David Smith recently participated.

And finally, I’d like to thank Mother Nature. She apparently heard my pleas last week and decided to hold off blasting another storm our way until Wednesday. It’s going to be strange waiting for a storm without worrying about typing in the dark at deadline. I think I’ll like it.
