Well, I had quite a weekend… About 6 years ago, my sister was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the blood plasma. While the doctors were able to send the cancer into full remission, her kidneys were permanently damaged and she has been on dialysis for 4 years. She recently found out she was at the top of the list for a kidney transplant and on Friday she got the call. I have to say it was much like someone having a baby. “It’s time!” and off she went while we waited to hear that everything had gone well.

We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl kidney, but so far it’s a working kidney and my sister is already feeling better than she has in years. We are eternally grateful to the person who thought ahead, and to their family that, while grieving for their own loss, gave my sister a chance to return to a normal life. It certainly puts things into perspective.
