LOCAL PLANNING FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCE
How should we prepare for a changing climate? The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) is working with Stow and 12 surrounding towns to create an actionable Climate Resilience Plan for our region. Come to a public forum on Thursday, November 19, from 6:30pm to 8:45pm, at the Acton Town Hall, Faulkner Room (204), 472 Main St, Acton. The event is free and refreshments will be provided. Your input is essential. Ukulele Players Unite!
Come join a Boston Ukulele Union Meetup this Thursday, November 19, at the First Parish Church, 353 Great Rd. Ukulele players from around the area will join together to strum and sing some old favorites and try some new selections. Friday, November 20, the Union Church of Stow is having a Friendship Dinner at 5pm with turkey and the fixings. All are welcome. The dinner is free and donations are accepted. The church is located at 317 Great Rd., just west of the Stow Police Station.

FAME is coming to Nashoba Regional High School!
The students of Nashoba Regional High School Drama are pleased to announce their Fall Play:  FAME. As the play begins, the school is in the midst of auditioning applicants. They’ve got nothing in common but a compelling dream – and each pursues it in a special way as they also deal with the special problems of their various lives ….  While this is a play and not the musical, there is music and dancing as the students work to pursue their dreams. COLLECTABLE DOLL AND PLATE SALE
Over 50 collectable dolls and over 100 collectable plates will be for sale at bargain prices. These were donated from the estate of a collector. Most were purchased in the 80’s and 90’s and are still in original boxes with certificates and accessories. They are from Ashton Drake, Classic American, Elke Hutchins, Edwin Knowles, Regency, Franklin Mint, Hershey Kisses, Hamilton, Yolanda, Norman Rockwell, Danbury Mint, M.J.Hummel, and Bradford Exchange, to name a few. A lot of the plates are in sets. We must convert this collection to cash for the benefit of the Stow Seniors. The sale is in the friendship room of the Council on Aging in the Stow Town Building, located at 380 Great Rd., on Saturday, November 21, from 9am to 3pm. For information call 978/562-3829.

Thanksgiving Sunday Service at First Parish Church
First Parish Church of Stow and Acton, 353 Great Rd., will hold two special inter-generational Thanksgiving Sunday services on November 22 at 9 and 11am. Attendees will sing traditional Thanksgiving hymns and be treated to a bounty of beautiful music from FPC’s choirs and musicians of all ages. Sounds of Stow Presents Monteverdi’s Vespers
Join us for Monteverdi’s moving “Vespers of 1610”. Sounds of Stow first performed this wonderful work in 2010, and we return to it now because it was such a memorable experience for performers and audience. Our soloists include sopranos Jessica Cooper and Emily Thornton; tenors Jason Wang and Eric Christopher Perry. The concert is Sunday, November 22, at 3pm in Hale School auditorium, 55 Hartley Rd. OPEN HOUSE CAREER DAY AT MINUTEMAN HIGH SCHOOL
Minuteman High School will host its annual Open House Career Day on Sunday, November 22, from 1 to 4pm. This event is an excellent opportunity for prospective students to see how Minuteman gives them a significant competitive advantage though robust academics and real-world technical experience in each of 19 career programs. Minuteman’s students can participate in a full range of sports and extra-curricular activities. We are selling 4½“ pots of beautiful poinsettias for $6.50 each. 9th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K Run/Walk
Would you like to work up an appetite this Thanksgiving while helping a good cause? Then consider running, walking, or volunteering in the 9th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K.

The race will take place this Thanksgiving morning (November 26), beginning at Stow Community Park and ending at Bose in Stow. Supported by Stow Recreation, this event will donate all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity and the Stow Community Chest. The race launches at 8am. Early check-in and race registration will be held from 3-5pm on Wednesday, November 25. Registration can also be done at 6:30-7:30am on race day.

Hike Flagg Hill with the Conservation Commission
Escape from the Black Friday post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy on Friday, November 27 and join the Stow Conservation Commission for a celebration of GREEN Friday with a free hike at Flagg Hill Conservation Area. Adults and families are welcome. Please do not bring your dog.  Park and meet at the Flagg Hill Garage adjacent to 220 West Acton Rd. at 9:30am. The hike will last approximately 1 – 1.5 hours and is guaranteed to burn off at least a little of your holiday meal! No RSVP required. Make-Your-Own Boxwood Tree Workshop, Wednesday, December 2, register  for a spot between 10am and 8pm, $45 – you’ll create a beautiful, long-lasting, 12-inch Christmas tree-shaped arrangement from Boxwood tips. Stow Garden Club provides instructions and all materials, including bows, balls, and decorations.  These make excellent gifts and can be decorated as “winter” arrangements for those who don’t observe the holidays.

Wreath Decorating Workshop, Saturday, December 5,  9am to 12noon,  $40 – You’ll learn how to decorate your own wreath. Your colors, your tastes, traditional, modern, or whimsical. Instructions and materials provided, including wreaths, bows, balls, pine coness, and decorations. Want to use your Boy Scout wreath? Bring it along and save $10.

Guest Table Community Supper in Stow
All are welcome to a new community supper in Stow. Guest Table at FPC serves dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the first Friday of each month at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC). The next community supper will take place on December 4. Guest Table welcomes everyone, in or out of Stow, whether they’re looking for a sense of community, are feeling lonely, are having some financial difficulties, or just want a change of atmosphere. There’s no charge for dinner, but donations are gratefully accepted. Dinners will be nut free, with gluten-free and dairy-free options available. FPC is located at 353 Great Rd. stow women’s club breakfast with santa
On Saturday, December 5, the Stow Women’s Club will hold its 32nd annual Breakfast with Santa. This event will be held at St. Isidore Church, 429 Great Rd., from 9am-11am. Admission is $3 per person with a maximum of $12 per family.

This is a wonderful morning when families gather to enjoy a pancake breakfast and celebrate the season. It is also our organization’s major fundraiser for the year. The proceeds support a number of community organizations, including the Stow Food Pantry, Warm Hearts of Stow, and our local schools. Key attractions include photographs with Santa for a small fee, inexpensive items for children to purchase as holiday presents, and our popular Silent Auction.

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR COA HOLIDAY EVENT
On Wednesday, December 9, the Stow Council on Aging will attend a holiday storytelling event at the Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham. Local storyteller Libby Franck, known for portraying historical characters, will tell holiday stories from long ago. The cost of this event is $8 for the van and admission. It is open to the public. Lunch afterward will be on your own at O’Connell’s Pub.

GIrl scouts Cradles to Crayons drive
Girl Scout Troop 72529 is conducting a donation drive of new or gently used items for Cradles to Crayons from now until December 10. There are donation boxes in the Hale and Center lobbies, or for dropoff contact [email protected]. Most needed items include baby, toddler and kids’ clothing, coats, new(unopened) socks & underwear, new hygiene items. Please no stuffed animals, DVDs, CDs, used board games, computer games, or electronics.

gingerbread house decorating at Hale
Stow Athletic & Recreation Supporters Inc. (STARS) will hold its First Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Event on December 12, 9:30am – 12:30pm, at the Hale Middle School Cafeteria. All ages are invited. The cost is $16 per house when ordered in advance (or $20 at door). STARS is a group of parents and other interested parties whose mission is to enrich our community by providing financial support for athletic and recreation programs. Boy Scout Holiday Wreath Sale & Tree pickup Service
Stow’s Boy Scout Troop 1 will be offering Christmas tree pickups at $10 per tree, and trees will be picked up at the end of your driveway January 15 and 16, 2016. Please make your tree pickup reservation by January 6 via website or mailed-in payment. The scouts will appreciate your order!
