Upcoming Events at Randall Library
Early Literacy Workshops for Pre-schoolers, Every 2nd Friday of the month at the Randall Library in Stow, 10:30am- Next Meeting January 11th, 2012 Cynthia Maxfield, the Early Childhood Coordinator of the Nashoba Community Partnership for Children will be at the Randall Library to present to children and parents fun activities and games to promote early literacy skills in pre-school aged children.

Thursday, January 17, 2012, 10:30-11:30am-Preschool Music Time with the Franklin School!! The local performing arts school, The Franklin School of Hudson  (http://fspaonline.com/) will have teachers at the Randall Library in Stow to teach pre-school age children the joy of moving to and learning to read with music. Come join the fun at that event, and learn more about how music and movement can be a positive influence when reading with pre-school age children. Representatives from the Franklin school will be available for future sessions at the Randall Library so watch the library calendar!

Saturday, January 26, 2012, 10:30am- Ed Morgan “The Music Man”-Music Performance-Come enjoy an interactive sing-along for children ages 1 to 99 at the Randall Library in Stow with Ed Morgan “The Music Man”. Learn new ways to connect with your family through songs. This family friendly performance will have everyone up moving, dancing and singing. We hope to see you there!

Stow Area Parents Network Weekly Playgroups
SAPN has a few changes to our weekly playgroup schedule –  consider joining a great group of parents, caregivers, and little ones in the new year!

All Ages:  Thursdays from 10am-11:30am at Stow Town Hall, email Angela at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Baby Playgroup (0-12 months): Starting January 2nd, Wednesdays from 12-1pm on the second floor of Randall Library, email Liz at [email protected] with questions.

Cynthia Maxfield, Early Childhood Coordinator for the Nashoba school district, conducts a lapsit program for infants 0-12months that includes books, social time, and fun.  This takes place on the 2nd Friday of the month at 11am on the second floor of the Randall Library. NRHS Class Play Competitions
The NRHS Class Play Competitions are coming soon! Casts have been selected and rehearsals have started. The students are responsible for all aspects of the production. They will all come together for one exciting Class Play Competition on January 11th, 2013 at 6:30pm in the NRHS auditorium, 12 Green Road, Bolton. Open Drumming Circle on Friday, January 11th 
The First Parish Church of Stow and Acton would like to invite anyone who likes to have fun with rhythm to come and participate in our monthly drumming circle, FPCDrums, on Friday, January 11th.  This drumming group meets the second Friday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the church vestry (downstairs in the main church building).  Bring your own instrument, or use one from the church’s growing collection, and join in.  All ages are welcome and the facility is wheelchair accessible.  Donations are appreciated (but not required).  The church is located at 353 Great Road (at the intersection of Routes 117 and 62) in Stow.  For more information, call our church office at 978-897-8149 or visit our website at www.fpc-stow-acton.org.

New Book Club Meeting
Join us on Tues.  January 15 at 7 PM at the library to discuss Where Did You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple.  Bernadette is notorious.  Her husband sees her as a fearlessly opinionated partner.  How can a revolutionary architect be a disgrace to private school mothers in Seattle?  After Bee, Bernadette’s daughter, aces her report card, Bernadette disappears.  Where is she?  Come find her with us!  Questions–call 978-897-6055.

Looking for Past Lip Sync Photos
2013 marks the 25th anniversary of this event and the Stow PTO is putting together a retrospective of the past years to play before and after the show.  We need your help!  If you have any photos of past Lip Syncs, especially the early years, please send them in to be included in the slide show.  If at all possible, please try to include the year of the photo.
Email digital photos to [email protected] or send photographs regular mail to the Center School, attn: Lip Sync, 403 Great Road, along with directions on where to return your photo.  All photos need to be received by January 16th.

Supervised Ice Skating Monday January 21st (MLK Day)
On Monday, January 21st, there will be supervised ice skating at Snow Field in Stow from 10-noon. Weather permitting, the hale2washington 8th graders, along with parent supervision, will be hosting an ice skating party. Come enjoy the music, ice skate and hang out with friends! For a donation of $5, all school age children can be dropped off anytime between 10-noon. Hot chocolate and snacks will be available for an additional fee. Please note, outside skating surfaces are bumpier than indoor surfaces. All children will be required to wear helmets and must have a waiver signed by a parent. Waiver forms can be downloaded at www.hale2washington.info/iceskating and will also be available at the rink. Younger children are also encouraged to wear elbow pads and kneepads. For updates on weather and ice conditions, please refer to the website. If you plan to have your child participate, please make sure they are dressed appropriately (hats, gloves, coats, required) for the weather. Community Preservation State Match Received For Stow’s CPA Funds
Stow recently received over $170,000 in matching funds from the state’s Community Preservation Act (CPA) Trust Fund for fiscal year 2011. In total, Stow has received over $2.5 million dollars in state matching funds since its adoption of the CPA in 2001.

The Stow Community Preservation Committee is accepting proposals for the May Annual Town Meeting.  The Committee requests that initial proposals be received no later than January 25th.  Proposal forms can be found on the Community Preservation page of the town website  www.stow-ma.gov  Endorsed proposals will be considered by voters at May Town Meeting. The committee usually meets the second and fourth Mondays of every month in the Stow Town Building and welcomes public input.  You can email the committee at communitypreservation@stow-ma.gov.

Center School Tour

Publishing Networking Group Meeting
Saturday, January 26, 10:30 a.m., Randall Library, 19 Crescent St., Stow. Guest Speaker: Andrew Goldstein. Concord resident Andrew Goldstein had his first novel, “The Bookie’s Son,” published in May, 2012, and in September he also became a publisher. Andrew Goldstein was born in the Bronx, married young, had a nonfiction book published in his early twenties, and had children in his thirties. He was a writer, tree planter, assistant school librarian, organic orange and olive farmer, school bus driver, Zamboni driver, editor, tennis pro, stock broker, power transformer tube winder, and custom builder. Andrew is going to talk about how he has run a very successful custom building company for 32 years , but with little of the skill set normally associated with running a successful company. He says, “The few skills I bring to the business were learned when I was 10 years old taking bets for my father.”

MMARC Free Parent/Caregiver Training; “The 688 Transition Process”
As we begin 2013, Minute Man Arc is sponsoring a training that will delivered by Michelle Algeri, 688 Transition Coordinator at the Central Middlesex office of the Department of Developmental Services on Thursday, January 10th, 6:45-8:15 PM.  The 688 referral process and its essential function in the transition from school to adult supports will be addressed as well as timelines, eligibility requirements, necessary paperwork, the transition plan and the role of the 688 coordinator.
