Stow Soccer Summer Program and Fall Registration
Registration is still open for the U8 – U10 Summer Soccer Clinic run by Mass. Premier Soccer that began June 24 and runs through August 7. The sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 pm at Pine Bluffs are free and open to all Stow kids who will be playing U8 and U10 in the fall. The response to this new program has been outstanding thus far, and there are some openings left for those who still wish to join. Players must register to participate.

Also, we need to have all Stow Soccer players who are playing this fall registered by July 15th at the very latest, so please register as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Registration for both the Summer Clinic and the fall season can be submitted online at http://www.stowsoccer.org

Young Eagles Flight Rally Scheduled 
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, July 13, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Road, Stow.

Registration takes place next to Nancy’s Airfield Café. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight. Additionally, a member of Cessna Corporation’s Discover Flying Challenge team will be present to show all comers the newest model Cessna 172 aircraft.

The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, created to interest young people in aviation. Since the program started in 1992, volunteer EAA pilots have flown more than 1.7 million young people in more than 90 countries.

EAA Chapter 196 also offers scholarships to young people for flying lessons and to attend EAA summer camp events in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

I’m Not Finished Yet!  A Retrospective of 40 Years of Artwork.
Stow resident Judith Jaffe (Halprin) currently is showing a retrospective of 40 years of her work.  This retrospective, called “I’m Not Finished Yet!”, is showing at the ArtSpace Gallery at 63 Summer Street in Maynard and is open to the public until July 13,Wednesday thru Saturday between 11AM to 3 PM.

Vacation Bible School at St. Isidore
St. Isidore Parish is pleased to offer our Vacation Bible School again this summer!  Our “Kingdom Rocks” adventure begins on Monday, August 12 and ends on Thursday, August 15.  Each day runs from 9:30 – 12:30.  The cost is $30 per child, with a maximum of $90 per family.  The week is open to children aged 4 by September 1 through those entering 6th grade in the fall.

RIPPLES: A Self-Guided Pond Tour for Healing
Delight in the beauty of six featured breathtaking and inspiring gardens, waterscapes and ponds along the Route 2 Corridor from Harvard to Lincoln MA.  This event will take place on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 from 10:00am – 4:00pm – your first stop will be the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, 145 Bolton Road in Harvard, MA where you will receive the map for the tour.  Tickets are $25 per person (1 adult and 1 child admission) and can be purchased online at www.HealingGarden.net/pondtour.php.  All proceeds are to directly benefit the Healing Garden, which provides therapeutic services and educational programs to those affected by cancer.

Free Environmental Workshop for High School Students
Innovation Workshop for High School Students at the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge, 680 Hudson Road, Sudbury onSaturday, July 13 from 12 – 3 p.m. It is free, includes lunch, and is open to all Grade 9–12 students in the Assabet, Sudbury and Concord River watersheds, from Westborough to Lowell. Learn to apply innovative ideas to solve real environmental challenges. The same principles can be applied to problem-solving in general, a skill valued for college admissions and career development. This hands-on workshop has consistently received high ratings for being interactive, inspiring and fun. The workshop also prepares students to enter the 2013/14 Intel-OARS Environmental Innovators Contest. Community Blood Drive Wednesday July 17th
The Hudson Rotary Club will be hosting a community blood drive at the Hudson-Concord Elks (99 Park Street, Hudson, MA) on Wednesday July 17th from 2pm-7pm. The need for blood locally remains constant, and donations are needed to offset summer blood shortages. People can donate a pint of blood every 56 days. River’s Edge Arts Alliance Summer Celebration Concert in Wood Park
Would you like a taste of what the River’s Edge Arts Alliance is hosting on our stages this summer?  Come to  Summer Celebration on July 10 at Wood Park, 65 Park Street, Hudson at 6:30 pm. A part of the Wood Park Concert series, Summer Celebration features the students of the Summer Drama Workshop and the adults from the River’s Edge Players. This FREE preview performance will highlight just some of the talent you can expect to see on stage at Hudson High School later in the summer with the River’s Edge Players production of The Secret Garden (a musical)  the Children’s Theater production of Peter Pan and the Youth Theater production of Legally Blonde, The Musical all at Hudson High School, 69 Brigham Street.

Come early to the park and choose a nice spot on the lawn. You are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnics and to enjoy the park and the playground as well as the view of the Assabet River from the Taylor Memorial Bridge.

The schedule for the shows being highlighted during the Summer Celebration Concert is: The River’s Edge Players perform The Secret Garden, The Musical on Friday and Saturday, July 12 & 13, at 7:30 pm and Sunday, July 14, 2:00 pm at Hudson High School.

The Children’s Theater production of Peter Pan will be held on Thursday & Friday,  July 18 & 19 at 7:00 pm at Hudson High School, and the Youth Theater production of Legally Blonde, The Musical will be held at the Hudson High School Auditorium on Friday & Saturday, July 26 & 27 at 7:30 pm at Hudson High School,. The comfortably air conditioned Hudson High School is located at 69 Brigham Street and is handicap accessible with plenty of free parking. Tickets for these performances are available on the River’s Edge Arts Alliance website, by phone at 978-562-1646 or at the door.

In case of inclement weather the Summer Celebration Concert on Wednesday, July 10 will be held at Hudson High School which can accommodate your picnics in the cafeteria outside of the auditorium. Morning walks with Coach Cate: Tuesdays in July at 10am Get outdoors and get fresh air, exercise and get healthy. Learn about the public lands in your neighborhood. Join Coach Cate every Tuesday morning for a vigorous walk. Dress appropriately for the weather, bring water and wear appropriate shoes. Walks will begin from the visitor center. Puppet Power Hour: Saturday, July 20th at 1-2pm Teddy Roosevelt and the Blue Goose will talk about National Wildlife Refuges, how they got started, what they are up to now, cool things you can see on refuges, and how you  can keep refuges strong. Family Nature Club: Sunday, July 21st at 1pm Bring your kids and come jump into nature with us as a family! We are starting a family nature club for kids. Every 3rd Sunday of every month we will get together and explore the outdoors for an hour of fun discovery! During the summer months we will learn about the wildlife found at the refuge by acting out these animals and creating natural puppets that will go along with a short informal play we’ll do in August.
