Sensei Pat’s Karate Demonstration, Thursday, August 22nd at 2:00pm- Sensei Saunders is a black belt instructor certified by International Uechi-Ryu Karate Federation (IUKF) and the American Council on the Martial Arts (ACMA). She has been teaching karate classes since 1998 and is also a NAPMA certified cardio karate instructor. Check out Sensei Pat’s moves, and do some too!

Kid Yoga with Maureen Trunfio, August 27th at 12:00pm- Maureen Trunfio is back to do yoga with kids ages 7-14. Our back-to-school yoga will teach your child how to de-stress before school starts. Come to one or all of the sessions! The sign-up sheets are at the library circulation desk.

“Lap-sit Storytime” , September 4th @ 11:00am at the Randall Library in Stow-Brand new at the Randall Library in Stow, the Youth Services Librarian Martha Boksenbaum is now offering a special story time geared towards infants to encourage learning and literacy skills and promote parent/infant bonding. Complete with simple stories and songs that Martha will teach to caregivers to repeat at home, our new “lap-sit story time” will be a new feature at the Randall to complement our preschool story times from now on. Come join the fun!

End of Summer Reading/Friends Ice Cream Social, Thursday, September 12th, @ 6:00pm-Have you signed up for the Summer Reading program “Dig Into Reading” at the Randall Library this summer? Then come join us on September 12th to enjoy ice cream and fun when we pull the tickets for the raffles to see who won!  We have a Kindle, bike, rocket, Star Wars Lego set, American Girl Doll and a whole lot more to give away and you might be the lucky winner. And remember this summer the adults can join in the fun with a raffle of a pile of new books, DVDs and audio CDs (so remember to sign up too). Also on this fun filled night at the Randall Library in Stow we will announce the winner of our Summer Reading Art Contest, your poster might be featured at the library all year long to promote reading. Come join the fun and have some ice cream provided for free by the Randall Library Friends Association.

Family Fun Night at Roll On America, September 14th from 4:00-6:00pm- In order to help us promote our “Dig Into Reading” Summer Reading event at the Randall Library in Stow this year, Roll On America of Lancaster has offered free admission to any Stow resident with a library card to their roller skating facility and family fun center on September 14th from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Just present your current Randall Library, Minuteman library card at the admissions desk and come join the fun at 90 Duval Rd in Lancaster and meet up with friends and family for a wonderful night to ring in the school year and swap stories about what you read and what you did at the library and how you will continue to roll on with reading all year long! Appearance by Dina Keratsis, author of “Cake: A Fairy Tale”, September 19th, @ 7:00pm-Romance will be in the air at the Randall Library in Stow, when the author Dina Keratsis, comes to read from her wonderful new romance novel, “Cake: A Fairy Tale”. This book takes readers into a world of romance, wonder, danger and thrills as it follows the lives of two unlikely lovers through a magical world filled with evil, joy and a fantastic ending that you won’t want to miss. The Randall Library staff has voted this book our favorite romantic pick of 2013 (and some of us aren’t even romance readers, yet this book won us over!!). Come meet Ms Keratsis as she shares passages from her book and explains how she wove elements of Boston into the fantasy environment of her book. This should be a fun night even for the non-romantics out there.  We’d love to see you  and refreshments will be provided (cake, no less!)

5th Annual Lake Boon Artisans Fair – Sat Aug 24
The Lake Boon Association is hosting it’s 5th Annual “Lake Boon Artisans Fair” on Sat, 24-Aug-2013, 10am-3:30pm at the beautiful Pine Bluffs Recreation Area (on Sudbury Rd, Stow), as part of the fun-filled 2013 Water Carnival weekend.  Mark your calendars and come support your talented neighbors!    Admission is free to all, and there is a free raffle every 30 mins for $5 towards a purchase.  This is an outdoor venue so heavy rain will cancel or postpone the event.

Everyone Invited: Lake Boon Water Carnival – Stow/Hudson
The Annual Water Carnival Weekend sponsored by the Lake Boon Association, will be held from Friday evening, August 23rd to Sundayafternoon, August 25th.  Activities are held at the Town Beach/Pine Bluffs Recreation Area off Sudbury Road in Stow. All events are open and free of charge to Stow and Hudson residents. Sing with Sounds of Stow Chorus and Orchestra
The Sounds of Stow Chorus and Orchestra welcomes singers in all voice categories to join with us for our fall concert with full orchestra to be held Sunday, Nov. 24th at the Hale School Auditorium.  Artistic Director and Conductor Barbara Jones has selected an exciting program of Russian choral/orchestral works: Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto, Gretchaninoff’s “Hvalite Boga,” and Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances.”

Open rehearsals are Monday evenings beginning August 26th from 7:30-9:30 at the First Parish Church, 353 Great Rd. An Introduction to Astrophotography
The Skylight Astronomical Society is hosting a presentation by Terry RiopKa, Digitizing the Cosmos : An Introduction to Astrophotography on Thursday, 29 August at 7:30 pm at The Clubhouse, 18 Rockbottom Road, Stow, MA.

With the low cost and high quality of today’s optics, and the free software resources available on the internet, astrophotography is easier than ever.  Operate robotic telescopes on the web, or learn how to attach a web cam or DSLR to your own telescope, and acquire images of the Moon, planets, International Space Station, galaxies and more! Then process those images using sophisticated automated software tools available free off the internet to obtain stunning images rivaling those of mammoth telescopes of the previous generation. Join us on Aug. 29th to learn how to digitize the Universe and prove to yourself that an external reality exists beyond your own perceptions!

The Skylight Astronomical Society is your local Astronomy Club.. Look out for Star Watches this fall –Stow Airport (tentative date November 9), Wayside Inn tentative date (September 28). Wings & Wheels: Cruise-In/Fly-In to Minute Man Air Field
Head to Minute Man Air Field (302 Boxboro Road, Stow) every Thursday night this summer from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM through September 5. Featured cars each week, but all cars are welcome. Open to the public, this event features great food, including wood-fired pizzas, burgers, and dogs from Nancy’s Air Field Cafe. Plenty of show parking and separate public parking. New Book Club Meeting
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be at 7Pm on Tuesday, Sept.10 at the library.  Blood, Bones and Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton will be the book discussed.  This is the true story of a successful chef in NYC.  Her story is an unconventional path through childhood,education and marriage–all bound together with the love of food.  Tell us what you would have predicted for this unusual girl in such unusual circumstances.  Join us.      Questions?  Call 978-897-6055.

Gun Violence Forum Rescheduled
The Stow Democratic Town Committee   announced  that  the panel  discussion on  Gun Violence originally  scheduled  for  May 15  will be  held  September 18  from 7 to 9 pm  at  Hale Middle School.  Panel members will include  John Rosenthal (  Stop  Handgun Violence), Angus  McQuilken (  Massachusetts  Coalition  to Prevent Gun Violence), James Wallace (Gun Owners Action League)  and  State Representative  Harold Naughton (Chairman of the  Public  Safety and Homeland Security Committee).  State Senator James Eldridge will moderate the program. Attendance is free.  Ample time    to answer  questions from the audience will  be provided. The  cost  of liability insurance  and traffic control for the program will be borne by the committee and by private donations.

Crafter’s Wanted For St. Isidore 2nd Annual Fall Festival
Looking for crafters for Fall Festival to be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 from 9AM to 3PM at St. Isidore Parish, Great Rd, Stow.  8′ booth is $30. and a 6′ booth is $20.  Please go online to www.stisidorestow.org to find the forms for submission.

Basketball Registration For The 2013-14 Season Is Now Open
SYBA (Stow Youth Basketball Association) is now accepting registration for the 2013-14 season for both the Bomber’s Basketball program (Gr. 1-2) and the Stow Recreation Basketball program (Gr. 3-8).  Go to www.stowhoops.org to register.  Deadline is September 30, 2013.
