Upcoming Library Events
Spooky Storytime, Saturday, October 26th, 1pm – Join Martha, Youth Services Librarian, for a preschool storytime, only a little spookier. Wear your costume and have a Halloween treat with us to celebrate the holiday.

Haunted House, Saturday, October 26th, 2pm-4pm- Randall Library welcomes ghosts and goblins (but only for two hours) upstairs to spookify our library. Wear your costume to Trick or Treat at our library to practice for Halloween! This haunted house may be a little bit scary, so bring someone else’s hand to squeeze! (Aimed at children ages 6 and up).

Nashoba Girls Lacrosse Spring 2014 Registration 
Important Changes! Spring Registration will be opening on or about October 15 and will close by November 30.  Early bird registration will be open only to returning NGL players from 10/15 until 10/31.  Beginning 11/1, registration will remain open and be open to the general public until 11/30.  A discount will be offered to those players who register before 11/15.  Team sizes will be limited. We are able to offer only one team per age group. Please contact Gigi Lengieza at [email protected] with questions.

Scottish Country Dancing
The Stow class of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society will meet on Friday, October 25th at the Stow Town Hall.  Scottish Country Dancing is the much older version of our Contra Dancing and is quite social.  Partners are not needed.  Soft-soled shoes are recommended.  There will be a Children’s Class beginning at 6:30 pm and and Adult/Teen Beginner’s Class at 7:15.  Social Dancing begins at 8:00.  All are welcome to join this enjoyable and social dance form  Please join us.

Stow Community Blood Drive
Saturday October, 26, 2013, 8am- 1pm,  St. Isidore Church – Stow. Celebrate Halloween early by being a blood donor. We will be hosting our annual drive On Saturday October 26 from 8-1 at St. Isidore Church in Stow. We welcome everyone from Stow and surrounding towns to join us. There will be no tricks but lots of treats !

If you wish to donate we strongly urge you to make an appointment by calling 1-800 REDCROSS. Walk-ins are always welcome. See you there !!

Annual Church Fair at the Union Church of Stow
Saturday Oct 26th — 10 AM to 2PM. Each autumn we welcome the community to our Fair.  Come & shop for crafts, jewelry, clothing, christian books, household items & fresh baked goods. For lunch enjoy homemade soup, sandwich & dessert. Have fun bidding on silent auction items and gift baskets — bidding closes at 2 PM.  Children’s activities ongoing to allow adults to shop.  This event is open to the public, so come on over & bring a friend to the church with the blue doors on Rt 117 — 317 Great Road.  www.unionchurchofstow.org

Stow Flu Clinic October 26th
The Stow Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), under the direction of the Board of Health (BoH), has scheduled a Flu Clinic to administer vaccine for influenza from 10am to 1 pm, Saturday, October 26th at the Hale School.  Only the injection form of vaccine will be available (i.e., there will be no intranasal option) and the vaccine can be administered to individuals 6 months of age and older.  Cost for vaccination will be covered by insurance and/or Medicare so bring your cards or a copy of your cards (front and back).  Save time by printing and completing a registration form and questionnaire from the Board of Health page on the Town of Stow website:   www.stow-ma.gov.  If you have questions, you can contact the Board of Health at 978-897-4592 or [email protected].

Stow Area Parents Network (SAPN) Halloween Party!
Saturday, October 26, 10am-noon. Center School (Great Road, Stow) Gather your ghouls and goblins, witches and scarecrows and meet us at the gym at the Center School for a scary ghoul time.  There will be games, crafts, activities, and plenty of food for the young and young at heart.  Parents are welcome to come in costume as well!  This is a perennial favorite, and the new gymnasium is a great venue for our annual fest.  Non-members are most welcome at this event; the cost is free for member families and $5/family for non-member families.

Stow Conservation Trust Walk at Leggett Memorial Trail
Join Stow Conservation Trust (SCT) Directors Carol Gumbart and Janet Moffat for a walk at the Leggett Memorial Trail on Sunday October 27th at noon.  What better way for your family to prep for the Pat’s game (start time 1:00 p.m.) than a short hike at one of Stow’s open space gems?   We can even have a quick tailgate at the end of the hike with fresh cider and apples.  If you bring your dog, plan to have it on a short leash so others will not be bothered.  Meet in the parking lot at the base of Whitman Street (nearest Route 62).  All ages are welcome.

Monster Bark Pet Halloween Costume Contest & Monster March
Sunday October 27, 2013;  12-2 PM (Registration at 12 PM, Pet Howl-aween Monster March begins at 1 PM); Pet Source, 117 Great Road, Stow. Join us for the 6th Annual Monster Bark, which includes a Pet Costume Contest, Awesome Prizes, Coloring Contest for kids 12 and under, and much more! All proceeds will go to Phinney’s Friends; Phinney’s Friends is a 501c3 nonprofit that helps low-income people in the Boston area keep their pets when they are going through hardships. We believe that the human-animal bond is a source of love, joy, comfort and fulfillment for both people and their pets. That’s why we help people keep this bond with their animals. Phinney’s Friends does not receive any government funding. The organization exists thanks to the generosity of private donors, volunteers and businesses that support us in many ways.

Haunted History of New England
Looking for a fun way to light up your Halloween? Come celebrate in a truly haunted style at the Randall Library on October 30th at 7:00pm when Christopher Daley will be at the library for a presentation that melds historical fact together with legends and myths to produce a fascinating account of spooky real life events that took place all around New England and the hauntings that still follow them. For ages 12 and up.

Bat Informational Talk
Come to old Town Hall on Wednesday, October 30th at 7pm to hear a presentation by Pat Huckery from the MA Division of Fisheries and Wildlife about how to prevent bats from entering homes and how to coexist peacefully with these helpful animals.

Stow Conservation Trust’s Annual Meeting
Stow Conservation Trust’s Annual Meeting and Potluck dinner will be held on Friday November 1, 2013 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Stow Town Hall.  Our speaker at 8:00 p.m. will be State Senator Jamie Eldridge who will speak about Land Conservation and Environmental Legislation Pending on Beacon Hill.  You do not need to be a member of the Trust to attend; the public is invited.  Those wishing to attend are requested to call Donna Beusch at (978) 897-7920 to coordinate food items for the pot luck dinner.  You also may come at 8:00 p.m. just to hear our speaker.

Stow Historical Society “Graveyard Graphics” Pot Luck Dinner  
All are invited to attend the Stow Historical Society’s fall Pot Luck Dinner which begins at 6 P.M. Saturday, November 2nd, at the Stow Town Hall.   Bring your favorite dish and join the festivities.

The evening program will feature Stow’s Marilyn Zavorski who will present a program about Lower Village Cemetery’s 1700’s gravestones and their carvers.  Marilyn, a retired educator and Teaching American History Federal Grant Coordinator, has spent the past year researching and digitizing the gravestones in Lower Village Cemetery.  Her detailed research has brought to life a fascinating story of the 18th century stonecarvers, whose art graces Stow’s early interments in the cemetery.  Early Middlesex County and Worcester County probate records have lent a deeper understanding into the lives of Stow’s early citizens.  Adding data from Stow’s archived Town Records and the documentation and photographs of historians from the late-1800’s through the present, the program will explore a mesmerizing chronicle unique only to Stow.

  Coffehouse Concert Featuring Blues Artists Paul Rishell, Annie Raines
First Parish Church of Stow and Acton’s New Revival Coffeehouse is proud to feature Blues artists Paul Rishell and Annie Raines in concert, November 2nd at 8 pm.  Paul is a master of country blues, playing guitar and National steel guitar, and Annie is regarded as one of the top blues harmonica players anywhere.  They will perform a wide variety of blues styles, including Chicago electric and country acoustic.  Have a fun evening out listening to good music and enjoying the homemade desserts and non-alcoholic beverages for sale.  Doors open at 7:30 and all are welcome.  The concert will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall at 353 Great Road in Stow (at the intersection of Rts. 117 and 62).  Due to construction, you will need to enter the hall from the lower level in back.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 the day of the show.  For advance tickets contact Johanna Pyle ([email protected]) or 978-274-2593.
Stow Garden Club Meeting
The Stow Garden Club will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, November 6th @ 7pm at the Union Church in Stow.  The program will be “Make and Take”.  Members and guests will no doubt enjoy making a special floral arrangement and taking it home.  Meetings are held monthly and we invite anyone interested in gardening topics to attend the November or future meetings. Annual Holiday Craft Fair
The Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging will be held on Saturday, November 9, from 9am to 3pm at the St. Isidore Church located at 429 Great Rd (Rte 117), Stow, MA. You are invited to attend and take advantage of the great holiday craft shopping provided by carefully selected crafters from the local area. Many of last year’s crafters are returning and some new ones have been added. There will be many hand crafted items including paintings on wood and glass, metal and glass jewelry, cross stitch items, scenic photography, handmade pottery, children’s educational books by Usborne, hand knitted items, and scroll saw baskets just to mention a few. There will be a pottery making demonstration. There will be a baked goods table featuring wonderful breads, cakes and sweets and home canned jellies and jams. There will be arts and crafts made by the Seniors of Stow. Visit our used book table and have the opportunity to get slightly used best sellers from the past year at a very good price. Drop in and have lunch with us.  Hot dogs, corn chowder and drinks will be on the menu. We think there will be something for everyone and hope to see you there.

Publishing Networking Group Meeting

Charlie Hoover (charliehoover.com) has been roaming the Boston area for over a decade now helping people from all walks of life with their technology needs. At BTC he specializes in teaching and troubleshooting everything from PCs and Macs to Smartphones and Servers. Boston TechCollective (BTC) is a worker-owned cooperative offering tech-support to homes and businesses around the greater Boston area. Three Rivers Chorus Concert in West Concord
Three Rivers Chorus warmly invites everyone to its fall concert, “Where the Water Flows,” on Saturday, November 2, 8:00p.m., at West Concord Union Church, 1317 Main Street, West Concord, MA. The innovative program is funded in part by a grant from the national Wild and Scenic Rivers Stewardship Council. It celebrates the science, history, and spirit of the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord rivers, and the watershed they share. The musical line up features pieces by Gwyneth Walker, Delius, Monteverdi, and Hassler. The chorus is proud and delighted to be collaborating with members of the Concord Poets Society and local visual artists for this unique multimedia presentation. Following the concert, there will be a reception with refreshments and an exhibition of the work of the poets and visual artists.
