The Independent Clause

In the 14 years I’ve been editing and producing newspapers, never have I had a week like this one. As I sit here Tuesday afternoon, trying to wrap my head around the multiple questions and up-in-the-air issues that remain before a rapidly-approaching print deadline, I’m contemplating just replacing everything with hand-drawn cartoons and pretty pictures and just calling it a day.

But instead, I’ll make another cup of coffee and look forward to the pounding headache I should have by midnight. I’m thinking that this may have something to do with those temporary NFL refs. Just sayin’.
Did you notice the headline on page 1 of our print edition? If You Read Nothing Else… please read that article and any others in the future on the same subject. Of course we hope you read the entire paper cover to cover, but  it’s so important for people to read and educate themselves about the options that will be presented at Town Meeting.

Anyone who doesn’t get out and vote is leaving their future financial picture in the hands of those who do. Now you may think that Joe down the street is a great guy and maybe he even returns your pruning shears on time and in good shape. But are you ok with handing over your checkbook to him and saying, ‘Go ahead, make my day’?
Our condolences to our wonderful Public Safety Log writer Kristen Kerouac and her family on the loss of Kristen’s father-in-law.  See obituary on page 7 of the print edition.

We are grateful to the support of several sponsors for enabling this week’s townwide edition, including Katie Fisher and the Friends of the COA.   For those of you who haven’t yet subscribed, we know that you’re probably missing us, so we put a handy subscription form right on page 2 of our print edition. Feel free to use it or go the the homepage
