6th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K Run/Walk
The 6th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K race will take place this Thanksgiving morning (November 22nd at 8AM), beginning at Stow Community Park and ending at Bose in Stow. Supported by Stow Recreation, this event will donate all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity and the Stow Community Chest. Register by November 1st and receive a free t-shirt! Early check-in and race registration will be held from 2-4 pm on November 21st. Registration can also be done at 6:30am on race day. Stow Lions Club Annual Christmas Tree Sale
Thanks to Linear Retail and KeyPoint Partners of Burlington, we are back at our usual spot in the Shopping Plaza at 115 Great Road (Route 117) Stow. The Stow Lions Christmas tree stand will be set up on November 17th and we will be open for business on Friday morning November 23rd the day after Thanksgiving. The tree stand hours on Opening Day Friday November 23, are from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. On the weekends, we will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. And during the week, Monday thru Friday evenings, we will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
These Christmas trees are shipped from a tree farm in Wallagrass Maine directly to us. And as always, there will be a wide variety of sizes and shapes on hand. This year a (6’ to 8’) Balsam Fir tree will cost $40.00, and a 6’ Fraser Fir tree will cost $45.00.

Movie and Discussion: Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet
Scientific data demonstrates the benefits of following a plant-based diet. On November 30th at 7 pm the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will present the 90 minute film “Forks Over Knives,” an examination of the claim that most degenerative diseases that afflict humanity can be controlled or reversed by rejecting animal-based and processed foods. The Stow Garden Club invites you to carry on the tradition of bringing greenery into the house during the dreary days of winter to brighten up your life. Club members are busily creating Decorated Boxwood Trees, Kissing Balls, Beautiful Wreaths, Center pieces, Swags and various table and home designs. Traditional or Contemporary, Rustic or Sparkling. Teacher gifts, office or hostess gifts. There is something for everyone! Prices vary from $5 to $50. Proceeds for the sale go back to the community through the many activities and projects that the club supports.

Lower Village Public Forum
November 28, 2012 at 7:30 PM – Stow Town Hall. Join the Stow Planning Board for an informative presentation on the past, present and future of Lower Village. If you have been wondering what has been going on in Lower Village; why the temporary traffic islands are still in place or how efforts to revitalize the village can move forward, this meeting will be an opportunity to learn about upcoming work and offer feedback on planning direction. Refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!

Stow Women’s Club Sponsors 29th Annual Breakfast with Santa
The Stow Women’s Club is sponsoring its 29th annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 8, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore’s Church in Stow, MA. Admission is $3 per person with a maximum of $12 per family. Admission includes a breakfast of pancakes, ham, coffee, and juice. This delightful event will feature photographs with Santa Claus for a small fee, a White Elephant table with inexpensive items for children to purchase as holiday presents, and a Silent Auction. It will also include a children’s craft table. This is the Stow Women’s Club primary fund raiser for the year. Proceeds fund a high school scholarship and benefit local community organizations and Stow schools. Last year’s Breakfast with Santa raised about $3,500.

Author Ali Hosseini at Randall Library
Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 6:00pm- Author Ali Hosseini will appear at the Randall Library to read from his novel The Lemon Grove and discuss his inspirations for the novel. The novel, which has received outstanding reviews from trade publications such as Publishers Weekly, follows the lives of two identical twin brothers, Ruzbh and Behruz and their lives in Iran. Mr Hosseini was recently featured in an Oct 10th edition of the Metro West Daily and we are proud to welcome him to the Randall Library. Books will be available for sale and signing.
New Book Club Meeting
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be on Tues. Dec. 18th at 7PM. We will be discussing Something Missing by Matthew Dicks. Dicks is a writer and a teacher who hails from Woonsocket, R.I. Winter Coat Drive
Time to clean out your closets! Please donate your gently used winter coats to Coats for Kids. “Anyone who needs a coat will have one” is the mission of Anton’s Cleaners’ 18th annual Coats for Kids drive. Coats are needed for all ages: children, teens, adults, and babies. Our Girl Scout Troop is currently running a Coats for Kids drive through Monday, January 7, 2013. Birds Fly South for the Winter…Or do they?: Saturday, November 24th at 7:30am “Everyone” knows that birds fly south for the winter. Except for the ones that don’t! In this session we will look at which birds leave our area during the cooler months, and which ones stick it out, and why. Bring good binoculars, a bird identification book, and appropriate hiking or trail shoes. FARNWR November Program – Active and Engaged: Conservation of Rare Species inside Route 495 in the Greater Boston Area presented by Bryan Windmiller, Wednesday, November 28th at 7pm. Did you know that many rare species in our state such as Blanding’s turtles, little brown bats, timber rattle snakes and Britton’s violets have significant populations within 30 miles of Boston? Bryan will describe some ongoing conservation projects related to these species and some of the challenges involved in conserving wildlife in suburbs and cities. Talks are free and open to the general public.
Refuge Fledgling Hour: Friday, November 30th at 10:30am November’s hibernation program will include a story and an art project (decorating a “cave” or other “house” for the winter). Please bring a teddy bear! Programs will be held the 4th Friday of every month (except in November it will be the 5th Friday due to the holiday!) 10:30am – 11:30am for 2 to 5 year olds; siblings welcome.

New Nanotechnology Exhibit at The Discovery Museums
The Discovery Museums announced the upcoming opening of their newest exhibit, Nano, based on nanoscale science, technology, and engineering. The museums will celebrate the opening of Nano during their First Friday Nights Free! event on Friday, December 7 from 4:30 to 8:30pm with free admission to both the Children’s Discovery Museum and Science Discovery Museum. Visitors can explore the new exhibit and participate in special programs to discover nano gold, make a DNA necklace, change the color of a butterfly’s wings, play “I Spy Nano” and more.
