School Safety Forum
On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Bolton’s Florence Sawyer Elementary School Auditorium, the Nashoba School District will host a public forum on school safety. Come learn from a panel of school administrators and police how safety is paramount in our district schools.
Randall Library Friends Meeting
If you love the Randall Library, you might be interested in attending the Randall Library Friends Association Annual Meeting on Thursday March 14 at 7:00 pm. Stow Garden Club Spring Prep Talk
The Stow Garden Club invites you to join in preparation for Spring at a talk given by John Link, Stow resident and graduate of Cornell University. John is buyer of shrubs and trees for Russell’s Garden Center in Wayland. He’ll introduce us to what’s new and improved this year in Native American plants. BINGO, Games and Fun for Kids
Girl Scout Troop 72526 is hosting a night of BINGO, Games, and Fun for kids on Friday, March 15th from 6-8pm. Join us at St. Isidore’s (429 Great Rd, Stow) for an evening filled with fun, games, and dancing! All games and fun included in this 2 hour period for a suggested donation of $5 per child. Prizes for everyone! Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Children under the age of 5 are asked to have a parent or guardian attend with them. Annual Arts Buffet Festival
The 11th annual Arts Buffet Festival is Coming – A fun day of kids’ arts and crafts, musical performances and an elementary school art show on Saturday, March 16th from 11-2 in The Center School gym in Stow, sponsored by the Stow PTO. We have numerous arts and craft projects planned, as well as some exciting idea starters for the Recycled Art Station. Admission is $6 per artist. If financial hardship would discourage you from attending, please see Center School Nurse Donna Lindstrom for complimentary admission. Please consider volunteering for set-up on Friday, March 15th, a shift during the event on the 16th, or clean-up. Teenagers are welcome to help out. Randall Library Programs
Saturday, March 16th, 2013 @ 12:00pm- Come join us at the Randall Library, when Jennifer Gershman reads from her book “Where Did Mommy’s Superpowers Go?” The book was written to help children better understand the changes taking place in a loved one who is going thru medical therapy for a critical illness. The participants will make individual squares for a quilted wall hanging that the library is donating to the Infusion Room at Emerson Hospital.
Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 @ 10:30am-Ed Morgan, “The Music Man”- Music. Come enjoy an interactive sing-along for children ages 1 to 99 at the Randall Library with Ed Morgan, “The Music Man”.This family friendly performance will have everyone up moving, dancing and singing.
Saturday, March 30th, 2013 @ 2:00pm-Author Barbara Allen reads and speaks about her poignant and riveting autobiography, Nice Children Stolen from Car. Ms Allen’s fascinating book is based on her childhood in which she was raised by parents who were hoarders. Also on hand for the event will be other speakers who are knowledgeable about the subject of hoarding and will speak about the impact it has on communities and families nationwide with advice on how to deal with it.
SAPN St. Patrick’s Day Party
Sunday, March 17, 2-3:30pm; Jam Time (86 Powdermill Rd., Maynard). Whether you are Irish or just Irish-at-heart, dress the kids and yourself in some green garb and feel lucky as we celebrate in a family-friendly way. As always, our party is open to the community and you do not need to be a member of SAPN to attend. Current Conversations about Immigration
On March 17, the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will host its third annual immigration educational forum. The event is designed to help us understand and respond to the realities of immigrant lives in our communities, along with evolving public initiatives to reform immigration policies. Eight knowledgeable panelists will describe how we can support local and national legislators in their efforts to create just and efficient roadways to citizenship for the 11 million hard-working “new Americans” who are so essential to our local and national economies. The free program will run from 12:45 to 3 pm in the Church’s Fellowship Hall, and is open to the public. New Book Club
On Tuesday March 19th at 7PM we will be discussing Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. This is an informal discussion at the library. Love, nature and human biology come together as Kingsolver weaves her narrative. She provides a gifted story along side detailed knowledge of the natural world. Nashoba Drama Society Presents: “Hello, Dolly!”
“Hello, Dolly!” returns to stage at Nashoba Regional High School! The romantic webs woven by New York City’s Dolly Gallagher Levi, widow and matchmaker extraordinaire, will amaze and amuse you as she sets her sights on Mr. Horace Vandergelder, wealthy bachelor from small-time Yonkers. Comical complications ensue, involving a host of mismatched partners all headed for a rendezvous at the Harmonia Gardens. Will each person find the ideal match? Presented by talented Nashoba students under the direction of Mr. Bill Grady. Show dates are Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd at 7:30pm and Sunday, March 24th at 2:00pm at the NRHS auditorium, 12 Green Road, Bolton. Stow Lions Club Breakfast with the Easter Bunny
Good news! This year the Easter Bunny will be joining The Stow Lions for breakfast Sunday morning March 24th, 8:00 a.m. -11:30a.m. at Hale School Cafeteria, Hartley Road, Stow. Mark the date and plan to join us for breakfast. We’re serving a homemade break fast again this year; scrambled eggs, toast, sausage, pancakes, juice, milk, coffee, tea, and fun. Public Program on Downloading E-Books
The Randall Library is conducting a “How to Use the Library Catalog to Download e-books to Your Kindle Fire” class on March 27th at 10:30 at the Stow Council on Aging, 380 Great Road, basement level. At this class you will learn how to use the Minuteman Library Network to download e-books (concentrating first on the use of a Kindle Fire). How best to use the Kindle Fire to bookmark pages, increase font sizes, delete items from the device and a few more handy tips to become more accomplished on using e-books and e-readers. The public is invited.
Vegetarian Potluck, Video, and Discussion
As part of their ongoing “Healthy Bodies, Healthy Spirits” program, the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will host a recipe-sharing vegetarian pot luck, video showing, and discussion on Friday, March 29th from 6:30 – 9:00 pm in Fellowship Hall. The public is welcome to attend. To participate, please prepare a potluck dish and bring copies of the recipes to share. Following the potluck, a video will be shown on how to select and prepare truly healthy foods. The event will also include open discussions on related topics. College Fair
College Fair with a focus on programs where students with learning differences succeed. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Nashoba Regional High School. All area parents and students in grades 8-12 are invited. 6:00pm: Panel discussion, NRHS Auditorium. College Representatives will discuss the continuum of services at two and four year colleges; how student expectations differ from high school to college; and the best fit: choosing a college program and services. 6:00-8:00pm: Ongoing college Fair, NRHS Upper Gym. College representatives will be here to talk with students and their families about their programs for students with learning differences.
Calling Young Artists: SCT’s Run For The Woods Poster Contest
Artists between the age of 5 and 14 are invited to submit a drawing to be used for the promotional poster for Stow Conservation Trust’s Run for the Woods. The poster should combine Stow Conservation Trust’s mission “To lead in the preservation of Stow’s open land and natural and scenic resources” with the fun of running. The winning poster will be hung throughout Stow and adjoining towns. The artist will receive a gift certificate for art classes (value $95) at Silk and Clay Studio at ArtSpace Maynard.
The following guidelines must be followed to be eligible for the prize. The artist must be in middle school or younger. The drawing must be done by hand on the form provided by SCT at www.stowconservationtrust.org.
Join your neighbors and help pick up Stow on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Past participants have found everything from car parts, a couch, a $20 bill, and even a kitchen sink. What will you find this year? Sign up for your cleanup area on the town map at the Lower Common near Papa Gino’s on Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m. to noon. The Stow Cleanup Group will have garbage bags and gloves (adult sizes) available at no cost. Though our April date should help us avoid poison ivy, be sure to wear gloves to protect your hands from any broken glass or sharp metal cans. Wear bright clothes or a reflective vest and long pants and sleeves to protect your arms and legs. Toss the bags in your own trash can or leave them by the side of the road. Please help the Nashoba Regional Scholarship Foundation by answering your phone! Our phone-a-thon returns on Sunday April 7th from 11:00-4:00pm. Student volunteers will use their cell phones to call area residents to ask for their pledge to support the NRSF. This is our only spring fundraiser so please help to make it a successful one!
