Randall Library Special Programs
Thursday, April 18, 2013, 7:00pm-Poets Speak In honor of National Poetry Month the Randall Library in Stow will be having two distinguished poets visit the library and speak about their work. Rodney Wittwer and Donna Johnson will be at the Randall Library so please join us for refreshments and poetry readings and have the opportunity to speak to Ms Johnson and Mr. Wittwer about their writing process.

Wednesday, April 24, 2013 @ 3:00pm, -YA Author Kate Burak Reading from Her Book-Emily’s Dress and Other Missing Things.- Renowned author Kate Burak  will be meeting with young adults to speak about and read from her riveting book Emily’s Dress and Other Missing Things. Come meet the author as she speaks about her writing process and how she wove the feeling and elements of Emily Dickinson’s poetry into her fascinating YA book.

Saturday, April 27, 2013, 10:30am- Ed Morgan “The Music Man”-Music Performance-Come enjoy an interactive sing-along for children ages 1 to 99 with Ed Morgan “The Music Man”. Learn new ways to connect with your family through songs. This family friendly performance will have everyone up moving, dancing and singing.

Saturday, April 27, 2013, 12:00pm-Justine St. John and Wilbur the Zucchini Eating Dragon- Do you have a picky eater in your house? Well you are not alone and so you should come meet Justine St. John who will read from her charming children’s book Wilbur the Zucchini Eating Dragon. We will be doing dragon crafts and having some healthy snacks available to temp all picky eaters, both human and dragon!

Hunt for Spring Peepers Posters
What will you be doing during April School Vacation week?  Why not take on a family challenge from the Stow Conservation Trust to find all six (6) of the Spring Peeper posters located in some of Stow’s Conservation properties (Red Acre Woodlands, Heath Hen Meadow and Hale-Corrzine).

The hunt for the spring peeper posters will run between April 10 and April 21.  Look for them on your own or find clues to where they are displayed on the SCT website http://www.stowconservationtrust.org

Submit photos of all six (6) posters (displaying the poster number) or submit sufficient written details of the location the posters were found to [email protected] and you will be entered into a drawing to win for a family membership to MA Audubon (a value of $65).  Submission deadline is Earth Day Monday, April 22, 2013.  Include your name and a phone number with your submission in case we need to contact you.

Stow Democratic Town Committee Meeting
The Stow Democratic Town Committee will meet at the Randall Library on Wednesday April 17 at 7 p.m.  Voting members must be registered Democrats and residents of Stow.  The Stow Democratic Town Committee is a local branch of the National Democratic Committee and is chartered by the Massachusetts Democratic Party.

Boy Scout Annual Electronics Recycling Day and Pick Up Service
Friends of Boy Scout Troop 1 Stow will hold the 10th annual electronics recycling event, Operation Motherboard, at Bose Corporation, 688 Great Road (Rt. 117), on Saturday, April 20 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.   An electronics pickup service is available on March 23 and April 6 for seniors, those requiring assistance with heavy items such as air conditioners or TVs in advance of the recycle event day and anyone not able to drop off on event day. The New Revival Coffeehouse Presents The Boxcar Lilies
The Boxcar Lilies is a modern folk trio known for their superb songwriting and innovative harmonies.  They accompany themselves on guitar, clawhammer banjo, concert ukele, electric bass and washboard.  They’ll be playing at the New Revival Coffeehouse on Saturday, April 20th at First Parish Church of Stow and Acton, 353 Great Road in Stow (at the intersection of Rts. 117 and 62).  All are welcome.  Doors open at 7:30 pm and the show starts at 8 pm.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.  For advanced tickets or more information email [email protected] or call 978-274-2593. Earth Day Service
Sunday, April 21st the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will celebrate Earth Day during its 9 am and 11 am services with an emphasis on the care and attention we need to give to our planet Earth.  The services will be “intergenerational” and will include participants of all ages.  Native American chants will be sung as well as other hymns and songs of the earth. The FPC Drummers will enrich the service with their talent and the Adult choir will sing and excerpt from “Misa Gaia” at the 11 am service. Stow Candidates Forum and Warrant Discussion
On Monday, April 22, 2013 at 7:30 P.M. at Stow Town Hall the League of Women Voters will sponsor a candidate forum and a discussion of certain warrant items.  Although there are no contests all individuals seeking reelection as well as those who are first time candidates have been invited to speak and answer audience questions.

In addition to hearing from the candidates, Stow voters will have an opportunity to gain additional information about certain warrant items to be voted on in the upcoming Town Meeting on May 6.  Of particular interest to Stow voters is an article in regard to purchase of a property at 323 Great Road.  A representative of the Planning Board will be available to provide additional information.  Representatives of the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee will be on hand if audience members need clarification regarding other items on the warrant.  This is not an opportunity to debate the merits of warrant items but to ask clarifying questions.  the meeting will be taped for broadcast on our local cable stations.

New Book Club
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be at the library at 7pm on Tuesday April 23rd.  Because of the snowstorm, the past meeting did not take place. The April meeting will discuss the Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver.  We do not anticipate that a storm will force us to  postpone the April meeting!   Join us to talk about the wonderful characters she has created. Spring Rummage Sale at Union Church of Stow
The Union Church of Stow will be holding the Spring Rummage Sale on Friday April 26th  9AM- 1PM and 5PM- 8PM and again Saturday 9AM-1PM.  Wonderful bargains of all sorts — clothing, shoes, linens, books, media, housewares and toys.  Always lots of girls & women’s clothing.  Saturday the already low prices will be dropped, to the floor, when our famous bag sale starts at 11AM.  It’s always fun to come & browse. SAPN New Baby Brunch
On Saturday, April 27th 11am-1pm, at Joelle Spear’s home, Stow. Please join us for one of the cutest SAPN events of the year! Swim Clinic for Nashoba 5-8 Graders
The Nashoba Regional High School swim team will be running a four-week swim clinic at the Atkinson Pool in Sudbury starting April 30th on Tuesdays from 7-8. The clinic is for students in the Nashoba district in grades 5-8 and costs $55. Proceeds go to the Nashoba High School swim program. The clinic is for children with prior swim experience and an interest in competitive swimming. Swimmers will work with team members on the various strokes, turns, and starts. Nashoba Girls Lacrosse Fundraiser Eric Dittelman: Mind Reader
The Nashoba Girls Lacrosse team is having a fundraiser this spring! Eric Dittelman: Mind Reader will be coming to Nashoba Regional High School Auditorium on May 4, 2013  to perform. He entertains audiences with his unique style of mind reading and comedy. He was recently on America’s Got Talent where he made it to the semifinals. This is one performance worth seeing! The show at NRHS starts at 7:30pm, and doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $10 prior to show and $15 at the door. Publishing Networking Group Meeting
Saturday, May 11, 10:30 a.m., Randall Library, 19 Crescent St., Stow. Staying Ahead of the Curve: How to Stay Competitive in Today’s Freelance Marketplace. Today’s business environment has many challenges for editorial freelancers: local and global competition for our services; the depressed economy pushing down rates; stringent legal requirements for independent contractors; staying current with the latest technologies; marketing your services in the world catapulted by social media. How do you stay competitive and relevant given all these pressures? Where do you spend your time for maximum benefit? What is the future for editorial freelancers? SpringFest 2013 Plans Underway
Stow’s SpringFest Committee is busy making plans for this years’ Festival to be held on Saturday, May 18th at the Stow Community Park.

Once again it will be a day filled with fun for all Stow residents offering several inflatables, free popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones.  Come see Animal Adventures, get an airbrush tattoo and enter a new event called the “duck drop.”  Not up for inflatables? Come listen to wonderful music and have lunch.  Not hungry? Watch demonstrations, check out vendors wares and see friends and neighbors.

Book Donations for the Randall Library Friends Book Sale
We are currently accepting donations for our upcoming book sale at the Randall Library in Stow that will take place on May 18 and 19.  Donations of gently used children’s and adult books (paperback and hardcover), DVDs, CDs, and books on CD will be most welcome. We will not be taking magazines, textbooks, cassettes VHS tapes or items in bad repair. Please bring your donations to the Randall Library circulation desk.

Lake Boon Assoc Annual Meeting
