This Thursday, September 12th, anytime, from 4-9 p.m., come to Papa Gino’s, 117 Great Road in the Stow Shopping Plaza! During this period, IF you bring the **Marathon Fundraiser Flyer** with you, 20% of sales will be donated to The One Fund Boston, on behalf of a group of volunteer physicians, nurses, and first-responders from the Boston Marathon Medical Tent and Finish Line who are fundraising as part of their own healing process. The One Fund Boston is a non-profit that serves to raise money and distribute it to aid Marathon victims in their recovery.
The **Marathon Fundraiser Flyer** can be picked up Thursday night (before you go into Papa Gino’s) in an envelope outside the “Karate Do” karate school just a few doors to the left of Papa Gino’s in the shopping plaza. Hope to see you there!

Family Fun Night at Roll On America, September 14th from 4:00-6:00pm- In order to help us promote our “Dig Into Reading” Summer Reading event, Roll On America of Lancaster has offered free admission to any Stow resident with a library card to their roller skating facility and family fun center on September 14th from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Just present your current Randall Library, Minuteman library card at the admissions desk and come join the fun at 90 Duval Rd in Lancaster.
Dina Keratsis, author of “Cake: A Fairy Tale”, September 19th, @ 7:00pm-Romance will be in the air at the Randall Library in Stow, when the author Dina Keratsis, comes to read from her wonderful new romance novel, “Cake: A Fairy Tale”. This book takes readers into a world of romance, wonder, danger and thrills as it follows the lives of two unlikely lovers through a magical world filled with evil, joy and a fantastic ending that you won’t want to miss. The Randall Library staff has voted this book our favorite romantic pick of 2013 (and some of us aren’t even romance readers, yet this book won us over!!). Refreshments will be provided (cake, no less!)
Young Eagles Flight Rally
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, September 14 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Road, Stow.
Registration takes place next to Nancy’s Airfield Café. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.

Gun Violence Forum Rescheduled
The Stow Democratic Town Committee announced that the panel discussion on Gun Violence originally scheduled for May 15 will be held September 18 from 7 to 9 pm at
Hale Middle School. Panel members will include John Rosenthal ( Stop Handgun Violence), Angus McQuilken ( Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence), James Wallace (Gun Owners Action League) and State Representative Harold Naughton (Chairman of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee). State Senator James Eldridge will moderate the program. Attendance is free. Ample time to answer questions from the audience will be provided. The cost of liability insurance and traffic control for the program will be borne by the committee and by private donations.
Stow Women’s Club Meeting
The Stow Women’s Club will be having their first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Boston Nail Company, 132 Great Road (across the street from Shaw’s next to Alpha Cleaner) at 7:00 P.M. West School Museum Free Program
On Sunday, September 22 at 3 pm, the West School Museum, will host story teller Katie Green’s performance: Meet Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. Mary Rowlandson was a 17th century Puritan from Lancaster who was captured by Native Americans during King’s Phillips War and lived to write a book about her experiences. Ms Green gives a riveting performance – you do not want to miss it! This program is free to all and recommended for ages 14 – 104.
The West School museum, Stow’s historic nineteenth century schoolhouse, is located at the intersections of Hiley Brook and Harvard Rds. This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Stow Cultural Council which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Steppingstones Golf Classic
The 2nd Annual Steppingstones Golf Classic will be held at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow on Monday September 23. Funds raised will go towards the school’s Capital Campaign and to support Boston Marathon Bombing families with young children. Registration starts at 11 am, with a 12 noon shotgun start. Crafters Wanted for SFCOA Holiday Craft Fair
Crafters wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging to be held on Saturday, November 9, 9am to 3pm at the St. Isidore Church located at 429 Great Rd, Stow, MA. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40.00 each. There will also be food, senior crafts and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported by the Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants and will display a street banner. 7th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K Run/Walk
Would you like to work up an appetite this Thanksgiving while helping a good cause? Then please consider running, walking, or volunteering in the 7th Annual Stow Gobbler 5K. The race will take place this Thanksgiving morning (November 28th), beginning at Stow Community Park and ending at Bose in Stow. Supported by Stow Recreation, this event will donate all proceeds to Habitat for Humanity and the Stow Community Chest. Habitat for Humanity is a global organization that provides low-cost housing to families in need. The Stow Community Chest is a central Stow organization that provides benefits for the town and surrounding areas. Please consider supporting this event by running, walking, or volunteering this Thanksgiving at 8 am. Register by November 1st and receive a free t-shirt! Early check-in and race registration will be held from 2-4 pm on Wednesday, November 27th. Registration can also be done at 6:30am on race day. FEMA Mapping Update Meeting
A multi-community public outreach meeting to discuss the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) panels and Flood Insurance Study report for Middlesex County specific to the Concord River Watershed (this includes the Assabet and Sudbury Rivers), is scheduled for Thursday, September 12, from 4-8 p.m. at the Alcott Elementary School, 93 Laurel Street in Concord, MA. Residents will have an opportunity to view the changes, ask questions, and learn more about the National Flood Insurance Program. Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be in attendance to present information about how the maps and reports were prepared, the process of reviewing and changing data where appropriate, schedule for implementation, and some of the potential changes being discussed for flood insurance in a general manner.

Annual Maynard Road Race
Mark your calendar for the upcoming 16th Annual Maynard 5KRun/2M Walk Road Race on SATURDAY, September 21, 2013. All proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley. The exciting newer Race Route has made the event even more exciting! The very popular Kids Race will be part of this year’s event again!
The 1M Kids Race, for children 4-11 years old, will begin at 10:00 AM, with the same start and finish of the larger races. Entry fee is $7/ea. The 5K Run/2M Walk Races will begin at 11:00 AM sharp on Summer Street across from Memorial Park!
Registration for these races will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 52 Nason Street, Maynard. There will also be Kid activities and music to enjoy prior to the races. All 5K Run/2M Walk entries received by August 31st will get a free t-shirt. Entry fees are $25 in advance or $30 day of the race.
The Race Route will start and end in Maynard Center, winding through the streets of Maynard. An Awards Ceremony will take place following the Races.

AARP Driver Safety Program
Emerson Hospital is hosting an AARP Driver Safety Program on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at its Health & Wellness Center. Led by an AARP consultant, this five-hour classroom refresher course encourages drivers to review the rules of the road, better understand the updated technology in new vehicles and learn strategies to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing and response time.
Materials cost $12 for AARP members or $14 for non-members, with refreshments and light lunch included. There is no written exam or driving test, and all participants will receive a certificate of completion.
