We are happy to announce a new member of the Stow Independent team- Rob Kean will be primarily covering sports. Rob, a Stow resident, is a published novelist and has been active in sports throughout his life. His first assignment, featuring the Nashoba Youth Football and Cheer teams, can be found on page 1. He’s off to a great start and we’re glad to have him aboard. Welcome Rob!
And while I’m on the topic of sports, the Nashoba Chieftains football team lost their first game since December 2010 last Friday night. Congratulations to the team for achieving 29 straight wins and for moving forward with a good attitude. I’m sure there are great things ahead in the season.
Nancy takes an in-depth look at the apple-picking traffic concerns that have surfaced with a vengeance this year on the weekends. With Columbus Day weekend around the corner, the traffic is likely to peak. Police Chief Bosworth, police chiefs from around the area, and Honey Pot’s Andrew Martin weigh in on the subject.
In the meantime, Ann caught up with environmentalist and author Peter Alden who looks back at the changes in the local landscape, including a lack of trees and changing plant and animal species in the region.
If all goes well, I’ll be off for a few days enjoying the great outdoors. I don’t mind if it’s a bit chilly, but I’m hoping it’s a little warmer than the 34 degrees we had on Memorial Day!
