Upcoming Library Events
Spooky Storytime, Saturday, October 26th, 1pm – Join Martha, Youth Services Librarian, for a preschool storytime, only a little spookier. Wear your costume and have a Halloween treat with us to celebrate the holiday.

Haunted House, Saturday, October 26th, 2pm-4pm- Randall Library welcomes ghosts and goblins (but only for two hours) upstairs to spookify our library. Wear your costume to Trick or Treat at our library to practice for Halloween! This haunted house may be a little bit scary, so bring someone else’s hand to squeeze! (Aimed at children ages 6 and up).

Nashoba Girls Lacrosse Spring 2014 Registration 
Important Changes! Spring Registration will be opening on or about October 15 and will close by November 30.  Early bird registration will be open only to returning NGL players from 10/15 until 10/31.  Beginning 11/1, registration will remain open and be open to the general public until 11/30.  A discount will be offered to those players who register before 11/15.  Team sizes will be limited. We are able to offer only one team per age group. Please contact Gigi Lengieza at [email protected] with questions.

Stow Garden Club Meeting
The Stow Garden Club will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, October 16th @ 7pm at the Union Church in Stow.  The program will be presented by one of our members, MariePatrice Masse with a discussion about the advantages and benefits of “Deadheading”.  Meetings are held monthly and we invite anyone interested in gardening topics to attend the October or future meetings. Friendship Dinner at the Union Church of Stow
Please join us Friday Oct 18th–  5PM to 6:30PM. This month’s menu is meatloaf, vegetables & apple crisp for dessert! There’s no reason to eat alone when you can join us for friendly company. Whether you are new in town or have been here a while, you are invited. Come alone or bring your family. Although there is no charge, donations are accepted. Movie and Discussion: Effects of Diet on Top 10 Diseases
On October 18th at 7 pm, the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will present a video outlining recent work by Dr. Greger M.D., who has scoured the world’s scholarly literature on clinical nutrition to develop a very entertaining one-hour presentation on how a healthy diet can prevent or treat heart disease, cancer, respiratory illness, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, kidney disease, influenza, and mental health issues.   The public is welcome to attend and there will be a short discussion to follow.   353 Great Road in Stow.  The film will be shown in Fellowship Hall ( enter the building from the lower level in the back).  For more information contact Joris Wils at 978-394-2196 or visit the church website at www.fpc-stow-acton.org.

A Cappella Concert:  None of the Above
On Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 pm, the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will present an a cappella concert featuring local sensation None of the Above, with special guests Downbeat, the Acton-Boxboro Regional High School’s all-girl a cappella group, also performing.  Tickets are $15 ($10 students & seniors) payable at the door.  The concert will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall at 353 Great Road in Stow. Artist’s Reception: A Camera Tour of Scotland
An artist’s reception featuring new photos from a camera tour of Scotland will be open to the public at Nancy’s Airfield Café, in Stow, on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 20, from 3 pm to 4;30 pm. Refreshments prepared by Nancy will be served. The photos were taken in early August by Stow resident Robert Cooke, a retired journalist, author and photographer.

Stow Community Blood Drive
Saturday October, 26, 2013, 8am- 1pm,  St. Isidore Church – Stow. Celebrate Halloween early by being a blood donor. We will be hosting our annual drive On Saturday October 26 from 8-1 at St. Isidore Church in Stow. We welcome everyone from Stow and surrounding towns to join us. There will be no tricks but lots of treats !

If you wish to donate we strongly urge you to make an appointment by calling 1-800 REDCROSS. Walk-ins are always welcome. See you there !!

Stow Flu Clinic October 26th
The Stow Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), under the direction of the Board of Health (BoH), has scheduled a Flu Clinic to administer vaccine for influenza from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, October 26th at the Hale School.  Only the injection form of vaccine will be available (i.e., there will be no intranasal option) and the vaccine can be administered to individuals 6 months of age and older.  Cost for vaccination will be covered by insurance and/or Medicare so bring your cards or a copy of your cards (front and back).  Save time by printing and completing a registration form and questionnaire from the Board of Health page on the Town of Stow website:   www.stow-ma.gov.  If you have questions, you can contact the Board of Health at 978-897-4592 or [email protected].

Stow Area Parents Network (SAPN) Halloween Party!
Saturday, October 26, 10am-noon. Center School (Great Road, Stow) Gather your ghouls and goblins, witches and scarecrows and meet us at the gym at the Center School for a scary ghoul time.  There will be games, crafts, activities, and plenty of food for the young and young at heart.  Parents are welcome to come in costume as well!  This is a perennial favorite, and the new gymnasium is a great venue for our annual fest.  Non-members are most welcome at this event; the cost is free for member families and $5/family for non-member families.

Haunted History of New England
Looking for a fun way to light up your Halloween? Come celebrate in a truly haunted style at the Randall Library on October 30th at 7:00pm when Christopher Daley will be at the library for a presentation that melds historical fact together with legends and myths to produce a fascinating account of spooky real life events that took place all around New England and the hauntings that still follow them. For ages 12 and up.

Stow Conservation Trust’s Annual Meeting
Stow Conservation Trust’s Annual Meeting and Potluck dinner will be held on Friday November 1, 2013 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Stow Town Hall.  Our speaker at 8:00 p.m. will be State Senator Jamie Eldridge who will speak about Land Conservation and Environmental Legislation Pending on Beacon Hill.  You do not need to be a member of the Trust to attend; the public is invited.  Those wishing to attend are requested to call Donna Beusch at (978) 897-7920 to coordinate food items for the pot luck dinner.  You also may come at 8:00 p.m. just to hear our speaker.

Crafters Wanted
Crafters wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging to be held on Saturday, November 9, 9am to 3pm at the St. Isidore Church located at 429 Great Rd, Stow, MA. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40.00 each. There will also be food, senior crafts and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported by the Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants and will display a street banner. Stow Conservation Trust Walk at Leggett Memorial Trail
Join Stow Conservation Trust (SCT) Directors Carol Gumbart and Janet Moffat for a walk at the Leggett Memorial Trail on Sunday October 27th at noon.  What better way for your family to prep for the Pat’s game (start time 1:00 p.m.) than a short hike at one of Stow’s open space gems?   We can even have a quick tailgate at the end of the hike with fresh cider and apples.  If you bring your dog, plan to have it on a short leash so others will not be bothered.  Meet in the parking lot at the base of Whitman Street (nearest Route 62).  All ages are welcome.
