STOW SCOTTISH DANCING
The Stow class of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society will take place on Friday, May 23, at the Stow Town Hall. Scottish Country Dancing is the much older version of our Contra Dancing and is quite social. Partners are not needed. Soft-soled shoes are recommended. There will be a Children’s Class beginning at 7pm and an Adult/Teen Beginners Class at 7:30pm. Social Dancing begins at 8pm. All are welcome to join this enjoyable and social dance form. Please join us.

Do good / dig manure / feed your plants
On Saturdays in May and June, 11am-2pm,  dig your own well-composted horse manure. Great stuff! $5 a bag. All proceeds benefit the horses at Eye of the Storm Equine Rescue, 65 White Pond Rd., Stow. Don’t call, just come. Drive in slowly, past the barn, bear right. You’ll see the huge manure pile on your right. Bring your own shovel. Fill as many bags (or your own buckets or bins) as you’d like.  Continue around the circle to drive out.  Please, no dogs, no smoking, keep kids in check, no tours. Thanks for helping the horses!

NRHS CAR WASH FUNDRAISER
Is your car in need of a good spring bath? Let US wash the winter off & you can help support the NRHS Classes of 2016 & 2017 at the same time. Only $5 per car. Bring your car to Nashoba Regional High, Saturday, May 24, 10am-4pm. Thank you!

Stow Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies
At 2pm on Monday, May 26, Stow will begin its annual Memorial Day Parade. All veterans, including active duty and reserve personnel from Stow and surrounding communities, are urged to participate. Also invited to march are the Stow Town Selectmen, Stow Boy & Girl Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, and the Center School First Graders who, with the help of the Stow Garden Club, have been growing flowers for this occasion. The Parade will form in the Center School parking lot just off Great Road (Rt. 117).  The march to Brookside Cemetery will begin promptly at 2pm. Transportation from Center School will be provided for veterans unable to walk the parade route. State Rep. Kate Hogan will speak at Brookside Cemetery. Wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at both Brookside and the War Memorial (adjacent to the Randall Library). Music is provided by the NRHS Marching Band and Stow Minutemen, and the Stow Fire Dept. is providing the Color Guard. For those unable to attend, we ask that you observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm.  Thank you in advance for your participation as we remember our fallen veterans from all wars.

NRHS Booster Club Annual Meeting
Join us in support of our student athletes! Parents of NRHS Student Athletes, you are cordially invited to attend the annual Nashoba Athletics Booster Club meeting on May 28 at 7pm in the high school cafeteria, in support of our student athletes. Please join us for light refreshments while you meet the Booster Club board members, the athletic director, and other parents of student athletes. Enjoy a slide show of our student athletes, or just peruse past editions of our Nashoba Athletics newsletters. We would love to show you what items the Booster Club has already funded and what’s on the wish list. This is your chance to have a say on how the Booster Club is run, since we will be voting on next year’s board members. Apparel and other items will be available for purchase. Upcoming Events at the Randall Library IN MAY
Donations to the Randall Library Friends Book Sale – Bring your used books to the Randall Library for the upcoming Randall Library Friends Association Book Sale. The Randall Library will be collecting used children’s and adult books, DVDs, CDs, and audio books until May 29. We will not be taking textbooks, magazines, cassettes, VHS tapes, or items in poor repair. Drop off materials at the Randall Library Circulation Desk.

Friend’s Book Sale, May 30 (6-9pm), May 31 (11am-4pm), and June 1 (12-2pm) – Come join the fun, and browse or purchase from a wide selection of used books available  on the second floor of the Library. Friday night, May 30, is a special reception and pre-sale for current Randall Library Friends which will feature wine, cheese, and live music, as well as allow currently registered “Friends” (individuals who have donated to a Randall Library Friends Association fund raiser in the last year) an advanced look at what is being offered for sale. May 30-June 1, the sale will be open to the general public. Come browse through a wide selection of books, CDs, DVDs, and audio books, both adult and children’s. Proceeds of the sale will go to support upcoming Randall Library events, activities, and services. We hope to see you there!

Fundraisers to Support NRHS DI
The Nashoba Regional HS DI  team has qualified to represent Massachusetts and our town at Destination Imagination (DI) Global Finals in Tennessee, yet now we need your help! Please come out and join us for what promises to be fun events as you help us raise funds to attend Global Finals!! Can/Bottle Recycling Drive- Month of May:  Collect all of your used cans and bottles, bag them and bring them to 196 Hudson Road, Stow. Every bottle or can you collect and give will help send one of our local D.I. teams to Globals!

ADD and Executive Functioning Issues
Smart but Scattered: Strengthening Executive Skills in Children and Adults at Home will be the topic of SPED PAC meeting at 7 pm, on Thursday, May 29 at Sawyer School.  Peg Dawson, Ed.D, will address proven strategies to boost any child’s ability to get organized, resist impulses, stay focused, use time wisely, and manage emotions. Ms. Dawson is a well known school psychologist, presenter and author of a book for professionals, “Executive Skills in Children and Adolescents: A Practical Guide to Assessment and Intervention” and a book for parents, “Smart but Scattered.”  Though meeting at Sawyer School, the speaker will address the needs of students of all ages.  All are welcome. Stow Youth Basketball Association’s Annual Meeting – June 4
SYBA (Stow Youth Basketball Association) will be holding its Annual Meeting at the Randall Library from 7pm-9pm on June 4.  We welcome any newcomers to join us. If your kids are part of the Bomber’s Program or played on a Stow Recreation Basketball team this year, this is a great opportunity to get involved and help run these successful programs (which are all volunteer based). The following positions are open as of June 4: Assistant Commissioner, Clerk, Marketing/Advertising, Equipment Manager. Any questions please email [email protected].

RED ACRE FARM TO HOST CHARITY HORSE SHOW
On June 8, Red Acre Farm, located at 254 Red Acre Road in Stow, will be hosting the 5th Annual Charity Horse Show to support the Decibels Foundation. Teenage riders from Red Acre Farm and other local horse farms are not only preparing to ride in the show, but they are actively fundraising to support programs for children with hearing loss and their families. Riders are doing this through individual, on-line fundraising web pages and other activities such as bake sales. In 2013, through their efforts alone, the riders raised over $8,000. Summer Plant Sale and Auction
The New England Daylily Society is having a Summer Plant Sale and Auction on Saturday, May 24, 10am – 3pm at First Parish Congregational Church, One Church Street, Wakefield. Sales tables open 10am – 12 noon! Most daylilies will be priced at $5 – $10; some slightly higher sell by vendors. Maynard Public library Presents “Fixing Our Democracy”
A workshop on “Fixing Our Broken Democracy: The Need for a Constitutional Amendment” will be presented by Greater Boston Move To Amend on Thursday, May 29, at the Maynard Public Library in the Roosevelt Room, from 7pm to 8:45pm. Refreshments will be served.

The workshop includes a multi-media presentation explaining why and how we must pass a constitutional amendment to affirm that constitutional rights are for human beings, not artificial entities such as corporations or unions, and political spending can be regulated by Congress and the states. Emerson Hospital 5K Run~Walk for Cancer on May 31
The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary’s annual 5K Run~Walk for Cancer brings together runners, walkers, and families to support cancer care at the Mass General Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital—Bethke. The rain-or-shine event will take place at the Thoreau Club Field, 275 Forest Ridge Rd. in Concord, from 8:30am until 2 pm on Saturday, May 31.

The 5K Run~Walk and one-mile Kids Fun Run follow groomed trails and residential streets. A post-race award ceremony will honor medalists in various race categories and the event’s top fundraisers. Participants and their guests are invited to remain at the Thoreau Club for a BBQ and family activities, including a tot trot for children 5 and under accompanied by an adult, swimming and sports, craft activities, and an inflatable obstacle course. The Kids Fun Run begins at 9:15am, the 5K Run~Walk begins at 10am, and the post-race ceremony takes place at 11am. Online registration is available until 12:01am on Thursday, May 29. Walk-in registrations on the day of the event are welcome.

River’s Edge Arts Alliance Announces Summer Drama Workshop
The River’s Edge Arts Alliance is proud to announce the Summer Drama Workshop is now accepting registrations for its four exciting theatre workshops. The workshops are designed especially for area students ranging in age from entering grade one to recent high school graduates. Each drama workshop will culminate with a musical theater performance from a popular production in the beautiful Hudson High School Auditorium.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and some workshops are filling up fast!  Workshop classes are held beginning June 24 with a final performance on July 26. There are two-, three-, four-, and five-week programs depending on age group. Registration is limited and forms are available at upwitharts.org. Tuition fees are discounted for members of the River’s Edge Arts Alliance, with deeper discounts for members who have more than one child enrolled.

SUMMER PROGRAMS FROM MINUTEMAN COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Registrations are flying in for Summer 2014 with Minuteman Community Education, located at 758 Marrett Rd., Lexington, and we are excited about all of our great offerings! Whether your son or daughter needs an academic boost, wants to explore nature, create iPhone games, or play sports, we have it all. All programs run between July 7 to August 1, and are for students entering grades 1 – 12. Class categories are Academic, Academic Enrichment, Career Exploratory, Creative Arts, Sports & Recreation, and Test Prep & Study Skills.
