A four- alarm fire at 206 Hudson Road this afternoon, believed to be sparked by a lightning strike during a severeĀ thunderstorm, caused what appeared to be extensive damage to the home of Charlie and Betsy Cornell.
The residents, who were home at the time, escaped without injury, though they brought no possessions with them except for the cell phone they were carrying.
Nine surrounding towns answered the mutual aid call for manpower and equipment, which allowed firefighters to battle the blaze and keep the entire structure from succumbing to the fire, though the full extent of the damage hasn’t yet been determined, said Fire Chief Joe Landry.
We will follow up on this story as needed, with full coverage in this coming week’s July 30 print edition.
