In August, the Thall family – Rich, June, Aaron, Jason – visited Pont du Gard, the best extant example of Roman aqueduct bridges. It was constructed 2000 years ago as part of a 50 km aqueduct carrying water from a spring in Uzes to the Roman city of Nimes in what is now southern France, near Marseille. The three tiers of arches carried the aqueduct over the Gardon River 48 m (160 ft) below and spanned 275 m (902 ft) at the top. The Nimes Aqueduct is estimated to have supplied 200,000 m3 (44 million gallons) of water per day. The family was vacationing with son, Aaron, who lives in Geneva.
