Social Skills Curriculum and Supports: Preschool to High School
Nashoba SEPAC, along with the District’s Special Education Dept., welcome parents/guardians and other interested parties to attend a free lecture on Wednesday, October 21, beginning at 7pm. Presenters Valerie Beyranevand, MS, CCC-SLP and Kristen Diggins, MS, CCC-SLP, will provide an overview of the programs and approaches used by the Nashoba Regional School District to facilitate improved social skills in all students. They will discuss strategies and resources for supporting your child at home and in the community. This lecture will be held at the Florence Sawyer School Library (100 Mechanic St., Bolton). 1947 Partition of India & Pakistan Play
The violent partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 is recalled through the eyes of its survivors in “Dagh Dagh Ujala: This Stained Dawn.” This lecture and short play will be performed by 12 actors from Pakistan on Thursday, October 22, at 7pm, in the sanctuary of the First Parish Church of Stow & Acton, 353 Great Rd., Stow (at the intersection of routes 117 and 62). NRHS CONCERT
On Thursday, October 22, the Nashoba Regional High School Concert Band, Advanced Jazz Ensemble, and Intermediate Jazz Ensemble will present the first concert of the year at 7pm in the NRHS Auditorium at 12 Green Rd., Bolton. They will be featuring the music of Robert W. Smith (ASCAP), Bob Crosby, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin. Admission is $5, while senior citizens and students are free. Stow Board of Health and Stow Medical Reserve Corp will be holding their annual flu clinic on Saturday, October 24, from 10am – 1pm, at the Hale School. Anyone 6 months and older can attend. Stow Area Parents Network (SAPN) Halloween Party!
Gather your ghouls and goblins, witches, and scarecrows, and meet us at the gym at the Center School for a scary ghoul time on Saturday, October 24, from 10am to 12noon. There will be games, crafts, activities, and plenty of food for the young and young at heart.  Parents are welcome to come in costume as well! This is a perennial favorite, and the new gymnasium is a great venue for our annual fest. Non-members are most welcome at this event; the cost is free for member families and $5/family for non-member families.

Cancer fundraiser to raise money by pulling planes at Minute Man
The American Cancer Society today announced that it has teamed with Minute Man Air Field for the inaugural Pulling For Hope event at 11am Saturday, October 24. The fundraising event, which is limited to 20 teams of 10 people, challenges teams to pull a small plane 100 feet down a runway. Prizes will be awarded to several “divisions” of teams – open, schools, businesses, and fitness facilities. Funds raised will benefit American Cancer Society-funded research and free services offered to cancer patients.

Stow Historical Society Annual Dinner and Program
All are invited to the Stow Historical Society’s annual fall dinner and program to be held Saturday, October 24, at 6:30pm at the Stow Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Jake Kuykendall of Sudbury, a member of the La Courte Oreilles band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. His program, How the Search for the BEAVER Drove the Exploration of North America, provides an overview of the North American fur trade starting in the mid 1600s, and its impact on the exploration of North America and on the Native American populations.

Randall Library Staff Appreciation Day
On Tuesday, October 27, the Randall Library Friends Association invites you to take a moment from your day to join us in recognizing all the valuable work our librarians do. Perhaps they helped find that elusive book, assisted with a special project, or introduced you to something entirely new. Stop by to share a positive word, offer a smile and a “thank you”, or drop a note in our Staff Appreciation Box. We know that “Libraries Rock” and our librarians do too, so let’s give them the shout-out they so deserve!

The Stow Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, November 4, at 7pm, at the Union Church in Stow. There will be two activities, “Make and Take” and “Bow Making”. Please bring a small to medium flower container to “make” an arrangement to “take” home. The flowers will be provided and purchased by the Garden Club, so please contact Louise Peacock at 978-897-4569 if you plan to attend this meeting so sufficient supplies will be available. The second presentation (and hands on) will be “Bow Making” – just in time for the Holidays. It’s all about the presentation of a gift that makes it so special.

Publishing Networking Group Meeting
THe Publishing Networking Group’s next meeting will be Saturday, November 7, 10:30am, at the Randall Library. Our guest speaker will be Sarah Cressy from the Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce, leading a discussion on marketing.

Dan Cloutier at New Revival Coffeehouse
Singer and songwriter Dan Cloutier will open the season at the New Revival Coffeehouse in Stow on Saturday, November 14. He’ll perform a collection of fast-paced folk anthems, sweet tremolo electric jams, quiet story songs, and more from his latest CD, “Blind Willie’s Lighthouse.” The coffeehouse is located at the wheelchair-accessible First Parish Church, 353 Great Rd., Stow. Doors open at 7pm and the concert begins at 7:30pm. Homemade desserts and non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Tickets are $15 in advance at BrownPaperTickets.com and $18 at the door.

CRAFTERS WANTED
Crafters are wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging to be held on  Saturday, Nov. 14, 9am to 3pm, at St. Isidore Church, located at 429 Great Rd. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40 each. There will also be food, senior crafts, and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported by the Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants and will display a street banner. FREE BOOK-SHARING EVENT
Laurel Learning will host its first Book Sharing Event—“Bone by Bone”—on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. and again on, Friday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. in Bolton, across from NRHS, at 27 Forbush Mill Road. This event is free and geared for kids 5 to 11 years of age, but young and old alike will enjoy this inquisitive read and the bone exploration, which includes prizes, a book raffle, snacks, and more. Walk-ins are welcome, but register at laurellearningservices.com to receive a free gift.

“Discovering the Extraordinary in the Ordinary” at ArtSpace
The ArtSpace Gallery is pleased to present an exhibit by Sofi Inbar, whose photography explores the world and life and uncovers the unusual in the usual, creating exciting and unforgettable images from the seemingly “dull.” The exhibit runs through October 29.  Gallery hours are Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11am to 3pm. ArtSpace is located at 63 Summer St. in Maynard and is free to the public and is wheelchair accessible.
