As part of its Monthly Parenting Series, the Nashoba Community Partnership for Children presents Children in the Shadow on Thursday, May 5, 6:30pm – 8pm, at Florence Sawyer School, 100 Mechanic St., Bolton. Anxiety is the most common mental health diagnosis in children and adults. The diagnosed are often in the shadow of others who are more outgoing. Therefore, we may be unaware of their anguish. This session examines the childhood fears, sensitivities and anxieties that may interfere with learning and maximizing full potential. The focus is on applying scientifically-proven approaches in the home and classroom environment.

Wednesday, May 11, 12:30-1:30pm, “The Randall Library Cookbook Club” -The library is starting a new “cookbook club”! We will be choosing a new cookbook each month to “read”, and members of the club will make one of the recipes into an item to share at a library potluck with the other club members. Discussion of the recipes and the cookbook will follow the meal. This month we will be using Mollie Katzen’s “The Vegetable Dishes I Can’t Live Without”, copies of which are available for checkout at the Randall Library circulation desk. Guest Table Community Supper
Guest Table, a community supper in Stow, serves dinner on the first Friday of each month at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC). Guest Table welcomes everyone, in or out of Stow, whether they’re looking for a sense of community, are feeling lonely, are having some financial difficulties, or just want a change of atmosphere. There’s no charge for dinner, but donations are gratefully accepted. Dinners will be nut free, with gluten-free and dairy-free options available. The next meal will be offered on May 6 from 5:30 at 6:30pm at FPC’s Fellowship Hall. FPC is located at 353 Great Rd. Its facilities are wheelchair accessible. Stow Boy Scouts Launch Operation Paper Shred
Friends of Boy Scout Troop 1 Stow will hold its annual paper-shredding event, Operation Paper Shred, at Hale School on Saturday, May 7, from 9am to 12noon. The troop will quickly and thoroughly destroy business and personal documents such as tax records, bank statements, bills, and credit card receipts. ProShred, Inc. (http://ProShred.com) has donated the use of their state-of-the-art truck for this event. The truck can shred thousands of pounds of paper an hour and its advanced shredding technology ensures each shred is completed efficiently and with the highest level of security. Cost for the service is $0.35/lb. A typical full banker’s box weighs approximately 40 lbs or $14. Scouts will unload your materials, weigh them, and bring to the shredder.

Survival Guide to Parenting Teens
Child development and parenting expert Joani Geltman, MSW, will present a parents’ guide to surviving their children’s teenage years at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton on Saturday, May 7, from 6:30 to 9pm. Parents will take away strategies for dealing with their tweens and teens. While children’s health and safety in the age of invasive electronic devices will be front and center, Geltman will also address the stress parents experience trying to keep up with the many distractions and dangers in their kids’ lives, just a click away. The Stow Garden Club will hold its Annual Plant Sale on the Lower Common (in front of the Stow Shopping Center) on Saturday, May 7, from 8am-12noon. You will be able to purchase many varieties of established plants, both for shade and/or sun, young trees and ground covers. The plants are local ones that thrive in Stow, and some heirlooms and unusual plants that may not be available commercially. Additionally, we are having a “Garden Theme Yard Sale” with an assortment of books, containers, and other garden-related items for purchase. What is Red Day? Introduced in 2009, RED Day, which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate, is Keller Williams Realty’s annual day of service. Each year on the second Thursday of May, associates spend the day away from their businesses serving worthy organizations and causes in their communities. This year, local Keller Williams Agents based out of our Concord market center and covering Stow and surrounding towns will be collecting contributions to the Stow Food Pantry. The Stow Democratic Town Committee will be collecting donations of food and toiletries at its booth during Springfest on Saturday, May 14. Items will be distributed to the Stow Food Pantry, which has been serving Stow and the surrounding towns since 1990. Cold cereals, tea, pasta, canned soups, kidney beans, mayonnaise, mustard, cooking oils, shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste, and sanitary personal care items, are examples of needed supplies. The next Publishing Networking Group Meeting will be Saturday, May 14, 10:30am, at Randall Library. The guest speaker will be Barbara Ingrassia, a Certified Copyright Manager, Speaker and Trainer. As president of Manage Copyright, she helps organizations navigate copyright law in the digital age by facilitating a review of their public presence, developing Best Practices, and training their staff. Ingrassia enjoys bringing some fun to a (potentially) dull topic.

The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging invite you to come to our annual Pancake Breakfast, to be served at St. Isidore’s Parish Hall on Saturday, May 14, from 8am to 11am RAIN or SHINE. This as a great way to kick off your Springfest day.Bring the whole family and enjoy a great breakfast with your friends. Where else can you get pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs and help the Seniors of Stow? Coffee will be provided by The Gulf Station Dunkin’ Donuts. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children under 12,; children 3 and under are free. Don’t forget to visit our table at Springfest where we will offer new hats and t-shirts for sale. SPRINGFEST LEGO CONTEST
Stow Annual SpringFest Lego Contest, Saturday May 14th at the Center School, this year’s theme just announced! This year’s Lego contest theme is Amusement Parks and Carnivals. Children may create a scene from an amusement park or carnival. This includes: a ride, a game, a concession stand and water parks! Please drop off your entry between 9:30am – 10:30 am at the Center School auditorium. Winners will be announced at 11:30 and entries will need to be picked up before 1:00 pm.
Rules: 1. Approximately 90% of your project must be made from LEGOs. You may add other objects to complete the other 10% of your project. Use your imagination!!
2.No kits, please! You can use parts from a kit, but your entry should be based on your imagination. Kit projects will not be judged.
3.Only preschoolers may have help with projects. Kindergartners and up, please do the work yourself.
