Visit Stow’s Hidden Treasure
The Stow West School Museum opens its doors on Sunday, May 22, from 12- 4pm. The historic brick West School was Stow’s District 3 school from 1825-1903.  Located on its original site at the intersection of Harvard and Hiley Brook roads, West School affords an in-depth look into schooling where One Room Was Enough. Travel back in time, explore the school artifacts, view the 1829 School Roster!

This Open House will be part of Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area’s HIDDEN TREASURES 2016 regional initiative, events of which are being held between Saturday, May 14 – Sunday, May 22.

Wednesday, May 18, 6:15pm, “Wild Plants I Have Know…and Eaten”, with Russ Cohen – join expert forager Russ Cohen for a 90-minute slide show to learn more about over 40 of the tastiest plants and mushrooms the region has to offer. Identification tips for each species will be provided along with information on edible portions, seasons of availability and preparation methods, as well as guidelines for safe and environmentally-responsible foraging.

It’s pizza time! Kids entering kindergarten in 2016 (and their caregivers) are invited to come to Pine Bluff for a pizza party on Sunday, May 22,  from 12noon-2 pm, to meet other kids who will be going into kindergarten. Nashoba Prom and After Prom
Nashoba Prom and After Prom is only 3 days away! Attendees to After Prom Party can drop off a change of clothes at Nashoba Regiobal High School on Saturday, May 21, from 12noon-2pm. There will be changing areas and we will hang your dress/tux. Please come help decorate and transform the the High School.

Parents, neighbors, NRSD families: The After Prom Party needs your help even if you do not have an NRSD student.  Please visit www.nashobaafterprom.weebly.com to sign up or just show up Saturday from 9am-2pm. We have many different areas to help with and items needed for decorating. Let’s all make this a community event that we can be proud of for years to come!  Thank you to the attendees that got their After Prom permission slips in by last Friday.  We can’t wait to draw the lucky winners at the After Prom Party of the  behind the dugout Red Sox tickets, behind the bench Celtics tickets, free parking passes for next year, and so many more door prizes! This is definitely an event not to be missed!

FPC Service Time Change
Starting Sunday, May 22, First Parish Church of Stow and Acton (FPC) will return to a 10am service time schedule. Its two-service schedule (9am and 11am) will resume in September. FPC is a welcoming Unitarian Universalist congregation located at 353 Great Rd. Its facilities are wheelchair accessible. Ed Morgan, a Stow resident and children’s singer/songwriter, brings a series of interactive children’s Sing Alongs, funded by a grant from the Stow Cultural Council, to the Community Room at the Randall Library. The next show will be Saturday, May 23, at 1:30pm.

Ed Morgan is better known in greater Boston simply as “The Music Man”. For over 10 years he has delighted kids and grown ups alike with his interactive blend of original and traditional children’s songs. Singing and dancing for kids ages 1-99!

Stow Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies
Stow will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30, at 2pm. All veterans, including active duty and reserve personnel from Stow and surrounding communities, are urged to participate by marching in the parade. Also invited to march are the Stow Town Selectmen, Stow Boy & Girl Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, and the Center School First Graders who, with the help of the Stow Garden Club, have been growing flowers for this occasion.  The Parade will form in the Center School parking lot on 403 Great Rd. The march to Brookside Cemetery will begin promptly at 2pm. Transportation from Center School will be provided for veterans unable to walk the parade route. State Representative Kate Hogan will speak at the War Memorial at Randall Library. Wreath-laying ceremonies will be held at both Brookside and the War Memorial. Music is provided by the NRHS Marching Band and Stow Minutemen. The Stow Fire Department is providing the Color Guard.

For those unable to attend, we ask that you observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm. Thank you in advance for your participation as we remember our fallen veterans from all wars.

The Stow Lions Annual Spring Flea Market will be held on June 4 at the Stow Lions Field  (located at the intersection of Route 117 & Hudson Rd.). The Rain Date is June 5. The Lions food court will be there with coffee and donuts in the morning, and a variety of food througout the day. The Flea Market opens at 7am, admission is free with ample free parking. This flea market attracts a high volume of customers and vendors, with a wide selection of goods, collectibles, tools, and decorator items. The event is clean, well run, with a good family atmosphere. There will be a wide selection of “ready for spring planting” flowers and vegetables.

Flower Communion Service at FPC
On Sunday, June 5, at 10am, the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will celebrate diversity with its annual Flower Communion Service. Each person brings a cut flower or two to place in a communal basket. The resulting bouquet symbolizes the diversity of those present, including the many blessings, gifts, and talents each brings to the community. At the end of the service, each person takes a different flower home, to remind them to be grateful for all we receive from others in our community. All are welcome. FUNERAL PRE-PLANNING TALK AT STOW COA
On Wednesday, June 8, 1pm, at the Stow Council on Aging, Funeral Director Matthew Farrow will discuss what information is needed when a person reaches the end of life’s journey. What decisions have to be made? What are the options?  What are the costs? This no-obligation talk is open to the public. Bring your questions.
