5th ANNUAL WIN-WIN AT THE RANDALL LIBRARY
Tuesday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 19, the Randall Library is offering a terrific win-win in conjunction with the Stow Food Pantry. Simply bring in any new/unused personal care product from the list provided and we will forgive up to $3 of your existing library fines! (“Billed” items are excluded.) Donations, especially personal care products, are historically lower during the summer months at the Food Pantry. Visit the library during this three week period with your donation. Help them help others and help yourself–it’s truly a win-win for everyone!

Suggested donations; shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, bar soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, feminine products, band-aids, hand sanitizer, kids’ sunblock. No lotions, please.

tHursday cruise-in/fly-in nights in Stow
In cooperation with EAA #196, Friends of Minute Man Air Field, and Nancy’s at the Airfield Cafe, the Rotary Clubs of Nashoba Valley, Acton-Boxborough, and Maynard are holding their fourth annual Wings & Wheels program, a summer-long cruise-in/fly-in event at the Minute Man Air Field (302 Boxborough Rd.). The event runs on Thursday nights from 5pm to 8pm until August 25.

Each week features different makes of cars; however, all cars are welcome to cruise to the air field every week. The event also features a fly-in for airplanes. Fun for the whole family, the public is invited to attend to see the cars and airplanes on display. Leashed pets are allowed. The event also features great food, including wood-fired pizza, burgers, and hot dogs from the award-winning Nancy’s at the Air Field, as well as popcorn, lemonade, and libations. New this year; an online ordering system with a credit card payment option!

Admission is free with donations requested. Proceeds will benefit local and international Rotary service projects, such as local scholarships and high school programs, senior citizen projects, and international health and relief programs.

Learn About Habitat for Humanity’s Local Projects
On Aug. 10 at 6pm at the Randall Library, Habitat for Humanity NCM will host an information meeting about a local Critical Home Repair project and how you can get involved in Habitat’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.  Come learn more about the work of your local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, the Critical Home Repair program as well as building program, and how you can help out with a Critical Home Repair project in Stow in the coming weeks.  Habitat NCM, with offices in Acton and Leominster, offers a hand up, not a hand out, to hard-working, low-income central Massachusetts families seeking affordable homeownership. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat NCM builds and repairs simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner partner families.

YOUNG EAGLES FLIGHT RALLy
All those between ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 9am to 12pm, as EAA Chapter 196 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Minute Man Airfield, 302 Boxboro Rd. Registration takes place next to Nancy’s Airfield Café before your airplane ride. Pilots at the event will explain more about their airplanes, allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.

A Theology of Ecology at First Parish Church in Stow
First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC), Unitarian Universalist, welcomes guest speaker Sue Darlington, professor of anthropology and Asian studies at Hampshire College in Amherst, on Sunday, Aug. 14, at 10am. Prof. Darlington recently spoke at a lecture series on “A Theology of Ecology” at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY. Prof. Darlington discussed Buddhism, her area of expertise, while other speakers discussed Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. She will share her experiences from the week. The service will be held in FPC’s Community Room, with music provided by Lisa Martino. FPC is located at 353 Great Rd. Its facilities are wheelchair accessible.

Thursday Aug. 18, 7pm, “The History of American Painting late 19th to early 21st  Century” with Martha Chiarchiaro – Local art historian Martha Chiarchiaro will be lecturing on the history of painting in the United States. Known for her captivating art history lectures, Ms. Chiarchiaro will be using key examples from the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) and the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston and other New England art museum collections to highlight her presentation.

Tuesday, Aug. 23, 7pm, Randall Library Cookbook Club – Each month the library cookbook club members will be using recipes from a selected cookbook and creating items to share at a potluck meal. This month’s theme is “grilling” and there is a selection of cookbooks to choose from at the circulation desk. The library staff will provide drinks, plates and silverware and the club members will provide their selected recipe items at the potluck on the date and time listed above. Sign-up sheets are available at the library circulation desk. Limited to 20 participants.

Tuesday, Aug. 26, 10:30am,  Ed Morgan “The Music Man”- Providing musical fun for kids of all ages, Ed Morgan will keep everyone happy by proving that summer fun should include a little singing and dancing. Be prepared for good time when “The Music Man” comes to the Randall Library and come join the fun!

Nashoba Girls Youth Soccer Clinic
Nashoba Girls Soccer is  excited to be hosting the NGS Youth Soccer Clinic for female athletes in grades 1-8 . The clinic will be Aug. 22-24 from 9am-12noon. Please email [email protected] for more information.

August Council on Aging Trips
On Aug. 24, the Stow COA will travel to Lowell for a tour of the Boott Museum, where cotton fabric was made. A canal cruise will follow, then lunch on your own. The John Adams Courthouse in Boston will be our destination on Aug. 31. This Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court opened in 1894. See the Great Hall and two exhibit rooms. Lunch afterward on your own.

It is a good idea to register early; these trips are popular. You must pay at the Council on Aging, 380 Great Rd., Basement Level, to register.  Out-of-towners may register on a wait list basis. stow bike for the woods
The 15th annual Stow Bike for the Woods is taking place Sun., Aug. 28. This is a family-friendly road-bike ride in support of the Stow Conservation Trust. Registration starts at 8:30am, ride at 9am. The ride starts in front of the Randall Library. You can register for the ride and get more information at http://bikeforthewoods.org. We will have food and drink including fresh peaches, cider donuts, and our famous mid-ride lemonade stand. Come for the scenery, return for the great snacks!

Choose from a variety of ride lengths including 5, 14, 28, 35, 48, and a 65-mile metric century. All ages and abilities are welcome. The well-marked routes take you through many of the conservation properties in the area. See up close why Stow and surrounding towns are considered biking central by those in the know. The Stow Conservation Trust aims to preserve open space for future generations. All proceeds from the ride go to the Trust. Last year the ride raised over $1,500 for this worthy cause.

Open rehearsals are Monday nights at the First Parish Church, 353 Great Rd., beginning on Monday, Aug. 29, from 7:30-9:30pm. Alice Eaton Fund seeks grant applications
In 1992, Alice Eaton, a former resident of Stow, bequeathed funds for the purpose of improving the health, safety and enrichment of Stow children, from birth through age 12. The Alice Eaton Fund Committee is currently seeking grant applications from organizations with projects consistent with the Fund’s mission. The application deadline is Sept. 19.
