5TH ANNUAL WIN-WIN AT THE RANDALL LIBRARY
Tuesday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 19, the Randall Library is offering a terrific win-win in conjunction with the Stow Food Pantry. Simply bring in any new/unused personal care product from the list provided and we will forgive up to $3 of your existing library fines! (“Billed” items are excluded.) Donations, especially personal care products, are historically lower during the summer months at the Food Pantry. Visit the library during this three week period with your donation. Help them help others and help yourself – it’s truly a win-win for everyone!
Suggested donations; shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, bar soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, feminine products, band-aids, hand sanitizer, kids’ sunblock. No lotions, please.
JAZZ THEOLOGY AT FIRST PARISH CHURCH IN STOW
Rev. Tom Rosiello will deliver a sermon on jazz theology on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 10am, at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC), Unitarian Universalist. FPC’s own Parish Jazz Band will be on hand to perform jazz favorites, including Mood Indigo, Blue Bossa, and Summer Samba. FPC is located at 353 Great Rd. Its facilities are wheelchair accessible.

Tuesday, Aug. 23, 7pm, Randall Library Cookbook Club – Each month the library cookbook club members will be using recipes from a selected cookbook and creating items to share at a potluck meal. This month’s theme is “grilling” and there is a selection of cookbooks to choose from at the circulation desk. The library staff will provide drinks, plates and silverware and the club members will provide their selected recipe items at the potluck on the date and time listed above. Sign-up sheets are available at the library circulation desk. Limited to 20 participants.
Tuesday, Aug. 26, 10:30am, Ed Morgan “The Music Man”- Providing musical fun for kids of all ages, Ed Morgan will keep everyone happy by proving that summer fun should include a little singing and dancing. Be prepared for good time when “The Music Man” comes to the Randall Library and come join the fun!
THURSDAY CRUISE-IN/FLY-IN NIGHTS IN STOW
In cooperation with EAA #196, Friends of Minute Man Air Field, and Nancy’s at the Airfield Cafe, the Rotary Clubs of Nashoba Valley, Acton-Boxborough, and Maynard are holding their fourth annual Wings & Wheels program, a summer-long cruise-in/fly-in event at the Minute Man Air Field (302 Boxborough Rd.). The event runs on Thursday nights from 5pm to 8pm until August 25.
Each week features different makes of cars; however, all cars are welcome to cruise to the air field every week. The event also features a fly-in for airplanes. Fun for the whole family, the public is invited to attend to see the cars and airplanes on display. Leashed pets are allowed. The event also features great food, including wood-fired pizza, burgers, and hot dogs from the award-winning Nancy’s at the Air Field, as well as popcorn, lemonade, and libations. New this year; an online ordering system with a credit card payment option!
Admission is free with donations requested. Proceeds will benefit local and international Rotary service projects, such as local scholarships and high school programs, senior citizen projects, and international health and relief programs.

HABITAT NCM HOSTS THE FINEST HOURS
On Aug. 24 at 5:30pm at the Randall Library, Habitat for Humanity NCM will host a showing of The Finest Hours. The movie depicts a Coast Guard rescue off Cape Cod and Stow’s own Ed Mason was one of the servicemen sent to save those aboard two sinking ships. Ed Mason is also part of the Habitat NCM Critical Home Repair program, and crews will be at his home in Stow during August and early September. Come learn more about Ed’s amazing life of service, Habitat’s Critical Home Repair program and Local Project Committees, and how you can get involved in Habitat’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Habitat NCM, with offices in Acton and Leominster, offers a hand up, not a hand out, to hard-working, low-income central Massachusetts families seeking affordable home ownership. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat NCM builds and repairs simple, decent houses alongside our home owner partner families. AUGUST COUNCIL ON AGING TRIPS
On Aug. 24, the Stow COA will travel to Lowell for a tour of the Boott Museum, where cotton fabric was made. A canal cruise will follow, then lunch on your own. The John Adams Courthouse in Boston will be our destination on Aug. 31. This Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court opened in 1894. See the Great Hall and two exhibit rooms. Lunch afterward on your own.
It is a good idea to register early; these trips are popular. You must pay at the Council on Aging, 380 Great Rd., Basement Level, to register. Out-of-towners may register on a wait list basis. STOW BIKE FOR THE WOODS
The 15th annual Stow Bike for the Woods is taking place Sun., Aug. 28. This is a family-friendly road-bike ride in support of the Stow Conservation Trust. Registration starts at 8:30am, ride at 9am. The ride starts in front of the Randall Library. You can register for the ride and get more information at http://bikeforthewoods.org. We will have food and drink including fresh peaches, cider donuts, and our famous mid-ride lemonade stand. Come for the scenery, return for the great snacks!
Choose from a variety of ride lengths including 5, 14, 28, 35, 48, and a 65-mile metric century. All ages and abilities are welcome. The well-marked routes take you through many of the conservation properties in the area. See up close why Stow and surrounding towns are considered biking central by those in the know. The Stow Conservation Trust aims to preserve open space for future generations. All proceeds from the ride go to the Trust. Last year the ride raised over $1,500 for this worthy cause.

STOW GARDEN CLUB LAUNCHES ITS YEAR
The Stow Garden Club will begin their 2016-2017 program year on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7pm at the Union Church. As we regather to announce the coming year program over desserts, we will discuss how to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Club in February 2017. Non-members are free to attend this meeting and learn what the club does for the community in the manner of civic beautification programs, scholarships and educational opportunities. ALICE EATON FUND SEEKS GRANT APPLICATIONS
In 1992, Alice Eaton, a former resident of Stow, bequeathed funds for the purpose of improving the health, safety and enrichment of Stow children, from birth through age 12. The Alice Eaton Fund Committee is currently seeking grant applications from organizations with projects consistent with the Fund’s mission. The application deadline is Sept. 19. BASKETBALL REGISTRATION FOR 2016-17 NOW OPEN

FREE FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Family Fun Nights, hosted by the River’s Edge Arts Alliance, are FREE to the public. The last event of the season will take place from 6-8:30pm Aug. 17 at Marlborough’s Ward Park on Orchard Street. Enjoy an interactive African drum session with Crocodile River Music, Fran Flynn Magician Extraordinaire and Musician Scott Kepnes. Also enjoy free face painting, balloon twisting and more.

FREE OUTDOOR FAMILY MOVIES AT ST. MATTHEW’S
Join us for free films on our spacious front lawn on Sunday, Aug. 21. We can’t tell you the names of the movies, but we can give you some hints! At 7:45pm we’ll present a selection of short films compiled in 2015 by the world’s most-beloved animated movie producer (you’ll likely spot at least one princess). At 8:15pm, see the popular 1985 film about misfit kids seeking pirate treasure to save their neighborhood from demolition while they dodge booby traps and gangsters.

HEALING GARDEN SPONSORS RIDE TO THRIVE
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center, located in Harvard, is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Ride to Thrive; this metric and ½ metric fundraising bicycle ride winds through the picturesque Nashoba Valley. The ride is on Sunday, Sept. 11, with a staggered start of 8am for metric cyclists, and 9am for ½ metric cyclists. Cyclists can register at www.RideToThrive.org. This is a supported ride, which begins in Harvard and includes t-shirts for the first 100 riders, water stops during the ride, and chili and suds after the ride! All of the proceeds will benefit clients of the Cancer Support Center, which provides therapeutic services for cancer patients from over 165 cities and towns in MA.
