Fresh Baked Apple Pies and Historic Slates Available
Fresh baked apple pies from First Parish Church of Stow and Acton will only be available for two more weeks!  Stock your freezer now!  Pies will be sold from the Apple Pie Stand at the church on the Common in Stow, at the intersection of Routes 117 and 62 and will be available on September 29 and 30 starting at 10 am until the pies are sold.  October 6th is the annual Church Fair and pies will be available during fair hours from 10 am to 3 pm.  To commemorate the facility improvement projects being undertaken at the church, historic pieces of slate salvaged from the roof will also be available for a donation.  For further information, call the church at 978-897-8149 or visit www.fpc-stow-acton.org.  Apples for the pies have been generously donated by Shelburne Farm of Stow.

SYBA (Stow Youth Basketball Association) is accepting registration for the 2012-13 season, both boys and girls, for the Stow Recreation Basketball (Gr. 3-8) and Bomber’s Basketball (Gr. 1-2) programs. Go to www.stowhoops.org to register.  DEADLINE is Monday, October 1st, 2012!

 
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Team “Pink Positive” is selling pink socks as a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Knee High Sports Socks are $10 each with Black Nashoba logo on the side. Socks come in Men, Women (teen) or Youth sizes. Nashoba Athletes and fans can show their support at their games in October. All proceeds will go to Avon Walk for Breast Cancer!!

Rummage Sale at Union Church
Be sure to stop by at the fall rummage sale Friday Sept. 28 (9AM-1PM) and (5:30 to 7PM) and Saturday Sept. 29th (9AM-1PM).  The sale will offer a wide assortment of clothing, toys, holiday items, housewares, books, etc.  This is the best bargain shopping around!  Come early for the best selection. Or, if you have clean, useable items that you would like to donate please bring them to the church anytime Wednesday 9/26 or Thurday 9/27 in the morning.   We are unable to accept donations of computers, TVs,  microwaves or large furniture or anything requiring repairs. The Union Church is located on Rt 117 next to the Stow Police Station.

 
Stow Lions Club Annual Fall Flea Market
Stow Lions Club Annual Fall Flea Market at Stow Lions Field, Route 117 Stow on Saturday October 6, 2012. Rain Date: Sunday October 7, 2012. Market opens at 7:00AM. Free admission and parking. Food Court with a variety of food at family friendly prices.  Clean, well-run, good family atmosphere. Coffee, Donuts, Soft Drinks, Water, Hamburgers, Hotdogs, and Fries.  Approximately 65 dealers.  Well attended, always attracts a high volume of customers.  Great selection of goods, collectibles, books, tools, and decorator items. 143rd Harvest Fair at First Parish Church 
Come to the 143rd annual Harvest Fair, Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10am-3pm at the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton.  The church is located at 353 Great Rd on the Common in Stow (at the intersection of Routes 117 and 62).  There is ample free parking and the event will be held inside the church buildings in case of rain.

 
Featured will be all types of homemade baked goods and preserves as well as handcrafted gift items and cards.  A large variety of media equipment will be available, as well as books, retro jewelry, and white elephant items.  A special children’s area will include the popular “Moon Bounce” and games.  A full lunch and snacks will be served and the famous apple pies will be available.  Try your luck in the 50/50 raffle while you’re there.  Proceeds benefit the church and there is no admission.  All buildings are handicapped accessible.  Contact the church at 978-897-8149 or check the website, www.fpc-stow-acton.org for further information.

Tuesday, October 9, 7:00 pm at the Randall Library
The Randall Library is proud to welcome author Jacqueline Sheehan who will be reading from her latest book “Picture This” which was featured in People Magazine’s “Great Summer Reads” section. At the event Jacqueline will also speak about her writing process and how she researcher her ideas. There will be a question and answer session at the end of the evening and books will be available for sale and signing.

 
Preschool Music Time, Thursday, October 11, 10:30 am at the Randall Library
Teachers  from the Franklin School of Hudson will be at the Randall Library to teach pre-school age children the joy of moving to and learning to read thru music. Come join the fun at this event and bring your dancing shoes!

 
Early Literacy Education Workshop October 12, 10:30 am at the Randall Library
Cynthia Maxfield the Early Childhood Coordinator of the Nashoba Community Partnership for Children will be at the Randall Library every 2nd Friday of the month to present to children and parents fun activities and games to promote early literacy skills in pre-school aged children. Come enjoy the fun of reading and doing a craft and learn how you can help your child learn to read using new techniques and fun hand’s on activities.

 
Stow Conservation Trust Harvest Ball
SCT Harvest Ball will take place at the Collings Foundation on October 13th starting at 7:30pm.  Come support the protection of open space in Stow while dancing to live music amongst the antique planes and cars of the Collings Foundation, bidding on the silent auction and enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres by ABCatering and desserts by babycakes and confections.  To purchase tickets for $75 each, visit StowConservationTrust.org

 
St. Isidore Parish Fall Festival
The St. Isidore Parish of Stow is excited to bring back its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 10AM to 3PM in the St. Isidore Church Hall and grounds!  Come enjoy a day of fun and food with your family and friends as we have hot dogs and hamburgers available for sale, local crafters selling their handmade items (start your holiday shopping early!), our parish cookbook for sale, a bake sale table, face painting & moonbounce for the kids, and lots of other exciting events!  Admission is free!  If you are a crafter and would like to sell your handmade items at the fair, please visit our website at www.stisidorestow.org for the forms for download and return them to St. Isidore Parish, 429 Great Rd., Stow, MA  01775.  Spaces available are 8′ ($30.) and 6′ ($20) and a very limited number of spots with outlets (additional $5.).  Any questions, please contact Laureen DeBenedetto at socialcommittee@stisidorestow.org.  We look forward to seeing you there!

 
MA State College and University Fair at Nashoba
Nashoba Regional High School invites all area parents and students in grades 9-12 to attend our MA State College and University Fair on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 6:00pm-8:00pm in the Upper Gym at the High School.  MEFA will also be conducting two college planning seminars in the high school auditorium from 6-7pm and 7-8pm.  Students and parents are welcome to attend either session.

 
New Book Club Meeting
The next meeting of the New Book Club will be at 7PM on Tuesday, October 23 at the library.  The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes is the book we will be discussing.  Memories–true or false?  What do you remember about events in your life?  Is it possible that some of what happened didn”t happen that way at all?  This book may shed a different light on what actually occurred.  Share your views at the next meeting.  We want to hear what you think!  Please call 978-897-6055 with any questions.

 
Crafters Wanted
Crafters wanted for our Annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by The Stow Friends of the Council on Aging to be held on Saturday, November 10, 9am to 3pm at the St. Isidore Church located at 429 Great Rd, Stow, MA. We are opening our annual craft fair to include a select group of juried crafters. Booths are 8’ by 10’ for $40.00 each. There will also be food, senior crafts and a bake sale. We attract a large attendance and are always well supported by the Stow residents as well as visitors from adjoining towns. We will advertise in local newspapers as well as posting ads at local merchants and will display a street banner. K of C Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities 
The Maynard Knights of Columbus Council #2121 will be in front of your neighborhood grocery stores soliciting your generous donations for the physically and mentally disadvantage people of our local community.  Please look for canisters in your local stores and the bright yellow aprons that will be everywhere the weekend of October 4th through the 7th.  If you have any questions or would like to volunteer your time for this effort please do not hesitate to call our Grand Knight Dave Steinbach at 978-857-8661 or Fred Johnson at 978-298-5392 (leave a message).

 
Masonic Open House
The Charles A. Welch Lodge, AF&AM, will be having an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday Oct. 6th in honor of Maynard day.  Please come by and see our newly refurbished dining hall and clubroom and learn more about Masonry in Maynard, associated Masonic organizations, and the Masonic charities in Massachsetts.  Freemasonry is a fraternal organization for men, which promotes the highest standards of honesty and integrity, and the enhancement and strengthening of the personal character of its members.  A second statewide open house will be held Saturday Oct. 20th.
