Despite our constant pleas to not have anything bad happen on Tuesdays, now it’s an EARTHQUAKE! Registering a 4.0 on the Richter Scale and centered in Southern Central Maine, the shaking was felt in Stow (and many New England towns) Tuesday evening around 7:15pm. So far no reports of any major damage. What is it about Tuesdays? I guess I’ll just be thankful that the power stayed on.
Once again, we need to offer our condolences, this time to the Parish Community and the community at large for the loss of Father David Doucet of St. Isidore’s, who also served as the Stow Fire Department Chaplain. We know he will be missed by many.
The Lake Boon community also lost a community member, Michael Lopresti, who drowned in the lake on Saturday night. More on that story, along with the arrest of one local alleged thief, can be found on page 1.
But not all the news is bad; the Chieftains won a surprisingly tough fight against the Clinton Gaels, retaining their undefeated season and lifting the Telegram Cup with the victory.
A Public Forum on the proposed building projects will be held this Thursday night, October 18 at 7:30pm at Hale Middle School. The committees will present their final proposals and recommendations with an opportunity for community members to ask questions and comment.
Representatives from the town will also speak. This is the last public forum prior to the Special Town Meeting on Monday, October 29. Look for the full warrant in next week’s paper.
Some of you were likely in Lunenburg this past weekend as the Nashoba Youth Football Chiefs teams took on the Lunenburg Bengals in games throughout the day on Sunday. My son, Jake, is a 6th grade Bengal and (warning, mom’s sneak bragging ahead) you may have heard his name a few times on the loudspeaker. I’m so used to cheering for Nashoba at hockey and football games that at one point, I let out a big “Go Nashoba”! But they deserved it, too. It was a great game, well played on both sides of the field.
