It’s with great sadness that we relay the news of the passing of Dr. Donald Brown, at 105 years. As Stow’s oldest resident and Boston Post Cane holder, Dr. Brown has been an active part of the Stow community for many, many years. Our sincere condolences to his children, grandchildren and to the many friends he leaves behind. He will be sorely missed.
We have some news from Independent world. We are expanding our vast publishing empire to include a second paper – The Bolton Independent, launching March 7. Yes, we will be a TWO-paper Empire. The Bolton Common ceased publication in late December, so the opportunity was there to provide Bolton with its own dedicated newspaper and we decided to seize the moment.
To be very clear, we are not merging Bolton news into The Stow Independent. The Bolton paper will be its own separate entity, with its own staff, focused on Bolton news and events. There will be some articles that will appear in both papers when appropriate, such as Nashoba news that impacts both towns.
It feels somewhat like anticipating the birth of your second child. You know there will be labor pain involved, but you do it anyway.
The exciting part is, in creating a new paper, it has given us the opportunity to “think outside the box” and look at some new and better ways to present the news and information in both papers. It feels good to reevaluate and get creative and to see Stow benefit from that, as well.
So congratulations Stow; you are going to be a big sister! And, of course, we won’t love you any less after the new paper is born. We’re just glad you’re potty trained.
