ukulele holiday
Holiday Ukulele Players Meet-up on Wednesday, December 16, 6:45 – 9pm, at First Parish Church (353 Great Rd.). Come join us and and play with other ukulele fans from around the area. All levels of players are welcome. Just bring your uke and stand if you have one. Winter Solstice Concert with Roger Tincknell, Thursday, December 17, 6pm – Join us for a warm evening at the library on a cold winter night for a festive musical program, including seasonal sing-a-longs and songs from winter celebrations from around the world and across cultures. This is a wonderful program for the whole family to enjoy. Refreshments will be served.

Jeff Czekaj, Wednesday, December 30, 2pm – Join children’s book author and illustrator Jef Czekaj for a jam-packed afternoon full of reading, rapping, and drawing. Jef will read and rap from his books, draw with participants, and talk about his life as an author and illustrator. He may also dress like a cat.

Union Church of Stow happenings
Our Friendship Dinners are the third Friday of the month. The next one is December 18 at 5pm. Good food, good company, and a great opportunity to share the love.

The Union Church of Stow Growth Committee is gathering a unique collection of nativity sets on Sunday, December 20, from 2-4 p.m. Some antique, some old, some new, some large, and some tiny. We are inviting everyone to view this collection in Fellowship Hall in the church. We will serve cider and cookies.

This year a single family-friendly Christams Eve service is planned for 5pm Christmas Eve. It is expected to last 35-45 minutes and will include lighting the advent candles, a children’s moment, the reading of the birth narrative from Luke, singing familiar Christmas hymns, and turning on our light sticks in a darkened sanctuary near the conclusion. There will be refreshments in Fellowship Hall after the service. Please add to the festivity with your presence and invite your friends and relatives! Nursery care will be available.   The church is located at 317 Great Rd., just west of the Stow Police Station.

MINUTEMan TO HOST “BREAKFAST WITH SANTA”
Minuteman High School and the Minuteman Day Care Center will host “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, December 19, from 8 to 11am at the school, located at 758 Marrett Rd. in Lexington. There will be a buffet including eggs, pancakes, sausages, and other food provided by the Culinary Department. Activities for children will include arts and crafts, face painting, and photos with Santa, plus door prizes for children and adults.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children age 6 to 12 (children under age 5 are free), and can be purchased at Minuteman’s main office or at the school store from 11:30am to 12:15pm Monday-Friday.

Traditional Mummer’s Play at FPC
Each year the children and youth of First Parish Church in Stow perform “St. George & the Dragon,” a traditional mummer’s play. Its story of a brave hero who dies and comes back to life is seen by many as a celebration of the winter solstice, one that features a colorful cast of characters that includes St. George, a dragon, a two-headed giant, a quack doctor, Father Christmas, to name just a few. This year, the play will be performed on Sunday, December 20, 11am, as part of FPC’s second service.

Children and youth will perform as actors, sword dancers, and singers. Participants include Stow’s Cam Braun, Maggie Braun, Evan Daisy, Benji Edgerton, Duncan Edgerton, Nathan Haberle, Caleb Hatlevig, Ruby Hatlevig, and Masha Schmitt.

holiday masses at St. Isidore’s
St. Isidore Parish will hold Christmas Masses on Christmas Eve, December 24, at 5pm (Christmas carols at 4:30) and 8pm; and Christmas Day, December 25, at 10:30am. Stow Soccer Club Spring 2016 Registration
Stow Soccer programs are available for pre-K age to 4th grade boys and girls. Registration will close for some programs on December 31 and late fees will be charged thereafter. Please register before December 31 to ensure your player’s spot on a team. Register online at www.stowsoccer.org.

Boy Scout Tree pickup Service
Stow’s Boy Scout Troop 1 will be offering Christmas tree pickups at $10 per tree, and trees will be picked up at the end of your driveway January 15. Please make your tree pickup reservation by January 6 by mailing in a payment to Troop 1 Stow, PO Box 75, Stow, or via our website at www.troop1stow.net. The Scouts will appreciate your order!

OPEN HOUSE/REGISTRATION FOR NASHOBA PRESCHOOLS
The Nashoba Regional School District will be holding its 2016/2017 Open House/Registrations/Preschool Screenings for the Nashoba Integrated Preschools on Friday, January 15, from 12:30pm – 3pm. An appointment is required to attend. For an appointment with the Center School Preschool, contact Mary O’Brien at (978) 897-0290 x-6100. We will also be scheduling screening for 3 and 4 year olds of Stow. Screenings can also be scheduled throughout the school year. This screening is a brief assessment of developmental milestones.
