STOW FOOD PANTRY NOW OPEN ONE EVENING PER MONTH
Starting in July, the Stow Food Pantry will be opening one evening a month in addition to the two morning openings. The evening Pantry will take place on the third Thursday of every month, from 6pm until 7:30pm. The Stow Food Pantry dates through September are: Aug. 17 and 18; and Sept. 1, 14, 15.

ARI “DANGER” DAY LIFE CELEBRATION: NEW TICKET PRICING
Come join us for Ari “Danger” Day on Saturday, Aug. 19, 12pm-7pm, at Pine Bluffs Recreation Area, 310 Sudbury Rd., for an afternoon of music, activities, food and drink to celebrate the life of young Ari Schultz. Ari “Danger” Schultz was an inspiration to us all because he lived life to its fullest, always with a smile. This fun and exciting event, sponsored in part by The Greg Hill Foundation and Battle Road Brewing Company, will celebrate Ari’s life and help support the Schultz family.

“HEALING MOTHER EARTH” AT FPC
On Sunday, Aug. 20, the Climate Change Task Force at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC) will lead a service on “Healing Mother Earth.” The service will include reflections on and discussion of the specific actions each of us can take in the year ahead to help Mother Earth heal.
The service takes place at 10am in the Community Room, and there is only one service. Child care will be available on the lower level (to the right and down the stairs or elevator). STOW REC SUMMER EVENTS
Aug. 21-25, 9am-1pm, Summer Art & Swim Program – This program combines two of children’s favorite activities. The Art portion will introduce children to a variety of mediums like drawing, painting, and clay. Then they will have a chance to cool off and burn some energy in the lake before going home. Counselors and Lifeguard will be on duty at all times. Children ages 5 and up can join us at the Pine Bluff Recreation. The cost $100 per child and space is limited. Sign up early! LIFE AT LAKE BOON — 1950 TO PRESENT
Thursday, Aug. 24, 7pm, at the Pompositticut Community Center (509 Great Rd.), Richard Gelpke will give the third of his Lake Boon history presentations. Professor Gelpke is a very lively and informative speaker with graphics and historic photos that provide fascinating insight into the background of our neighborhoods. These sessions are sponsored by the Lake Boon Association.

LAKE BOON WATER CARNIVAL – PUBLIC INVITED
The Annual Water Carnival Weekend, sponsored by the Lake Boon Association, will be held from Friday evening, Aug. 25 to Sunday afternoon, Aug. 27. Activities are held at the Town Beach/Pine Bluffs Recreation Area off Sudbury Road in Stow. Events are open and free of charge to Stow and Hudson residents. The Association offers these events in appreciation for the many friends who support the organization’s environmental, educational and civic programs during the year. Water Carnival Weekend Activities include: Friday Night 8/25 – Music Boat & Lighting of the Lake (the music boat is sponsored in part by a grant from the Cultural Council of Stow which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency); Saturday 8/26 – Water Carnival Beach Day; Sunday 8/27 – Annual Decorated Boat Parade.
Admission to the beach, both Saturday and Sunday, is free and this is a great opportunity to see the many improvements that have been made there by the Stow Recreation Commission. The Lake Boon Association is a non-profit organization incorporated since 1921, addressing civic and environmental needs of nearly 500 households around Lake Boon.
STOW BIKE FOR THE WOODS
The 16th annual Stow Bike for the Woods is taking place Sunday, Aug. 27. This is a family-friendly road-bike ride in support of the Stow Conservation Trust. Registration starts at 8:30am ride at 9am. The ride starts in front of the Randall Library. You can register for the ride and get more information at http://bikeforthewoods.org. We will have food and drink including fresh peaches, cider donuts, and our famous multi-ride lemonade stand. Choose from a variety of ride lengths. All ages and abilities are welcome. The routes are well marked and cue sheets are provided. The routes take you by many of the conservation properties in the area. See up close why Stow and surrounding towns are considered Bike Central by those in the know.
The Stow Conservation Trust aims to preserve open space for future generations. All proceeds from the ride go to the Trust. Last year the ride raised over $2,000 for this worthy cause.
ALICE EATON FUND SEEKS GRANT APPLICATIONS
In 1992, Alice Eaton, a former resident of Stow, bequeathed funds for the purpose of improving the health, safety and enrichment of Stow children, from birth through age 12. The Alice Eaton Fund Committee is currently seeking grant applications from organizations with projects consistent with the Fund’s mission. The application deadline is Sept. 18. Fourth Annual Feline Film Festival
Back by popular demand, CaRMaH (Cat Rescue of Marlborough and Hudson) is pleased to announce its annual Feline Film Festival on Saturday, Sept. 16, 7-9pm, at the Maynard Fine Arts Theatre, 19 Summer St., Maynard. The nonprofit rescue’s festival will include a screening of YouTube feline stars like Maru and Henri. The event will also feature merchandise, auctions and raffles. The fundraiser will also feature jazz and classical guitarist Patrick McCarthy, who will also act as guest emcee and auctioneer.
