Young Alpine Ski Team Races for Results

With just two races under their belt, the Nashoba alpine ski team is poised to increase their competitiveness as they enter the slalom portion of the six-race season. “It’s a young crowd,” said Coach Mike Gormley. The boys’ team has six freshmen, the girls’ four, with three seniors total to round out the ranks.
Resolutions: Getting Fit and Healthy

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to become more healthy and physically fit. That resolution is the reason that fitness clubs, exercise classes and sellers of home exercise equipment see January as their busiest time of year.
Nashoba Seeks New Goals

Looking for broader community input into priorities for the Nashoba schools, Superintendent Michael Wood devoted last night’s School Committee meeting to a public forum for setting some goals for next year’s District Improvement Plan.
The plan is a legally required document, updated each year, that outlines a district’s overall goals, along with ways these targets should be reached and success measured. As Committee Chair Nancy Federspiel of Bolton explained, “The District Improvement Plan is intended to be a living, working document, intended to look at the next 5 years in our district.” She also pointed out that it is these goals that perhaps make the biggest impact on the district budget.

Hockey is Back!

On January 6, the NHL announced a tentative deal to end the hockey lockout. But the big news on the ice is that the Nashoba Chieftains are 7-1-1. “I’m very happy,” said Coach Steve Kendall. “We didn’t expect to be this good. We expected to be good, but this is great.”
Cliff-side Financial Resolutions

While lawmakers were able to make a last minute save from a free fall off the so-called fiscal cliff, there are still changes to the tax laws that will affect most people’s pocketbooks now, with potentially more to come. Making and sticking to financial resolutions can make any future financial challenges less painful.
Selectmen Put the Brakes on Projects

In a discussion that became heated at times, the Board of Selectmen last night put the brakes on any further spending on capital projects until a new group can be formed to oversee all three projects as a whole. Additional topics included a group of business owners looking for support to bring water to Lower Village and the presentation of a parcel of land for sale near the town center.
