Sports Round Up: EEE is a Game Changer

The threat of the EEE virus is affecting youth and high school game schedules after several area towns were considered to be a high risk for the virus. After a Westborough man died of EEE in August and EEE carrying mosquitoes were found in Boylston (August) and Berlin (September), the Massachusetts Department of Health listed Hopkinton, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Southborough, and Upton as areas of concern. As a result, evening activities (anything after 5:30pm) in many of the towns have been rescheduled.
The Changing Face of Stow

With recent tax hikes related to school projects and now looking at multiple proposed building projects potentially driving real estate taxes higher, it seems many longtime Stow residents are choosing to leave town. At the same time, home sales in Stow have risen slightly over the last few years according to real estate market reports. Who is selling and who is buying and how will it effect the town?

The topic of the evening was not at the top of the Nashoba School Committee’s agenda last night, but that did not stop it from dominating the meeting for more than an hour. “We think we know why many of you are here,” Committee Co-Chair Nancy Federspiel of Bolton announced to about 25 audience members. “But this is not a School Committee issue, it’s an issue for the high school.”

Group Focuses on Business Development

Stow last voted to create an Economic Development Commission in 1966, but for reasons unknown today, that Commission was never actually formed. Now, 46 years later, with a limping commercial center, vacant storefronts and several parcels of open industrial land in Stow, one Selectman is hoping to revive the concept of the Commission and bring vitality back to the business community.
